@mlnevese no firewall blocking. i even have made a rule for explicitly allowing BGEE.exe to bypass the firewall in- and outgoing-wise.

@Beastman Did you try downloading via torrent? To have access to the torrent file you have to login in Beamdog's page first...

Alow me to quote Morte's post once more...

For those having problems downloading, I suggest using the method suggeste by Mortes on the Pre-load thread.

If you have problems to download the files with the official installer, you can try to download them with your prefered torrent software instead. To do it you'll have to login on the beamdog website and follow this link:

    http://www.beamdog.com/client/beam/00766.torrent

It will download the BGEE torrent file which you can use to download the preload data files.
After the download finished, you can copy the 00766 folder with all its content over to the location of the official downloader.

Depending on whether you used the beamdog client or the dedicated BGEE downloader before, you should locate the '\BeamDog\Games' (beamdog client) or '\Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition\Data' (dedicated BGEE installer) and copy the 00766 folder from the torrent download location into there. You'll probably have to overwrite existing files. Do so as those files are likely incomplete.

Now you'll only have to delete the files 766.beam and 766.status from this very same folder. Start the official downloader/beamdog client again. It will check the files and should confirm that the download is complete.

    Cheers,
    Mortes

PS: for comparison: official client got stuck at 2% for me and wouldn't download anymore. Using deluge (torrent downloader) I was able to download with 300-1500 kb/s and had the download finished within 40 minutes.

And go to that thread and give Mortes all the likes, agrees and insightfuls he deserves.

It's funny how intently I watched the progress of the download, full well knowing I couldn't do anything with the files when it was finished.

Hey guys! I'm using the stand-alone installer and the download breaks in every 2 minutes or proceeds with an unbelievable speed of 5 kb/sec :D...i'm from Hungary, can the distance influence the download speed, or is it normal? Thx in advance

I can't download the torrent file, it doesn't appear to be available from the site. Is anyone having the same issue?

EDIT - Ignore me :) I just logged in.

It keeps getting stuck at "gathering download info" when I use the BG:EE installer and I refuse to use a torrent. I've never, EVER had a good experience when I tried to torrent anything and if that's the only way I can play this game then I guess I just wasted 20 dollars. My question, though, is is this how it's gonna be on release day? If so....then this would easily be the worst digital download experience I've ever had, even worse than some of the crap Steam puts me through. If not, then I guess I'll just wait until then to download.

I cant find those 766.beam and 766.status files where do i have to look precisely?
  • moody_magemoody_mage Member Posts: 2,054
    @Cyhort
The BG Installer IS a torrent, just a custom one.

I'm using the torrent method now purely so I can seed it for others. Hitting 250+kb
  • RythgarRythgar Member Posts: 101
@Velkir in the Baldur's Gate Enchanced Edition\Data folder, wherever you installed the downloader.

But it's its own installer that does everything automatically. I don't need to find and mess with any files. I'm, like, the most computer illiterate person ever when it comes to stuff like that and every time I try to do it I end up messing up the game.

EDIT: Ok, the Beamdog client is actually working ^_^ So glad it looks like I'm not gonna end up missing out on this.

Wow, I cant even get 1 kb/s of download speed. I get a tiny amount, and then it just keeps reducing till it hits 0.

Try this. Reboot your computer. Rename c:\program files\Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition to Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition_old

Reinstall BGEEInstaller.exe again, leaving use P2P enabled.

Also verify that BGEE launcher is allowed through your firewall.

Im not installing it to the default directory. It still just stays stuck on 0%, and I've allowed it through my firewall.

@Mungri have you deleted the 766.* files in the Data directory and restarted the client?

Regardless of where you install it, rename it and start over. You can even pull out the data folder to save you from having to redownload what you've already got.

Mine looked similar to @TheCoffeeGod 's screen, but I closed it and opened to be told it had completed. Don't just look at the folder size; right click and select properties - as this counts that folder and all sub-folders for size. Mine was 1.34 GB, which strongly suggests that my preload is complete.

I'm panicking because I believe that Windows 7 lies!... Nah; I just wish there was a way to confirm my installation more than what I've done. Taking it on faith!

I could be wrong about this, but I believe that when downloading files, Windows will often allocate space on the hard drive for files that are currently downloading, even if the files aren't downloaded yet, and so they'll be listed in file/folder properties as being completely downloaded (size will be listed as the total size) even when you've only started downloading them.

But the directory is simply /Beamdog/Games. I tried deleting the files inside games and will restart now.

Oooooh, yay, its downloading! 3-4 hours left at 80-130ish kbps.

Just so people are aware, 1.3gb isn't the final size of the game. Don't fill up that hard drive just yet.
  • moody_magemoody_mage Member Posts: 2,054
Alright, downloaded via torrent. Enjoy your seeding whilst I sleep.

I cheered my download on. Literally. Whenever it would increase speed, I'd say something encouraging or applaud. I scared the crap out of my dog, but I think the magical tech pixies liked it because things started downloading progressively faster.
