Interesting, I'm enjoying Volo's and Elminsters comments
Two issues with the Archer kit description: It doesn't mention that archers can get grand mastery in ranged weapons (I'm pretty sure they could in BG2...). It also says that can't exceed specialization in melee weapons (which rangers can't do anyway), I believe it should say that Archers can no longer specialize in melee weapons.
Based on the amount of available proficiencies you can only get high mastery in BGEE. No matter what your class is.
Edit: Of course you are going to enjoy Elminster and Volo's comments. One of them is the greatest mage in all of Faerun, and the other is...well...Volo.
@elminster In BGEE, neutral characters will be happy at high rep.
Odd. I guess if they are going for reputation being how well they are received by people, but not necessarily how good they are, it makes sense. Maybe?
Well, the changes that were made were done for two reasons:
1. With the old system Neutral characters were never happy, so you never got to hear their "happy" reactions to reputation shifts.
2. If you go hear their "happy" and "mad" soundfiles, for the most part, it seems that they prefer high reputations anyway.
Well no wonder neutral characters are never happy.
Jaheira has Khalid to deal with. Garrick is stuck asking strangers to find to protect Silke (and honestly she is kind of a terrible human being), Faldorn is just angry, Quayle is stuck loitering besides a bridge for half the game (I can't think of anything on Safana), and Xan is well...Xan
But to be honest I don't really care much either way. I'm still planning on playing the game first as evil as I can go.
Manual2 page 22 (The attack roll): "...the die roll..." I think that's a typo. A very tiny but funny one
Sorry I'm lost a bit. Is it the first sentence of the paragraph under "The attack roll" that you are referring to? Where there is a comma between the words "the attack roll, the die roll..."

Logically, shouldn't neutral NPCs be happy somewhere in the middle, though?

I'm guessing because their sound files referred to them being a higher reputation (or something similar) then they were sort of stuck in terms of how NPC's could react.
You better be happy with this answer. Since it was my 1000th post!!!
Yeah, now that I checked it in the dictionary... Sorry for that!
Anyway, I also noticed that the "shorty" bonus text has changed. +2 saving throw bonus, plus additional based on CON. Or was it like that before? Wasn't it +1 for every 3,5 CON? Also, halflings no longer seem to have infravision.

But I know there was a mod that managed to make neutral NPCs happy (including banters) at middling reputation, so it must be possible, sounds a bit like a cludge to make them happy at high reputation and not fair on evil parties that aren't too low on rep who want to take a few neutral NPCs along...
Here is what each Neutral NPC says when they're happy:
Jaheira: "Perhaps this group needs not quite as much help as I thought." (I guess it could work for Neutral reputation, but its more good for me).
Garrick: "If man is known by the company he keeps, I shall be thought of gloriously." (This one clearly fits better with high rep).
Xan: "Perhaps we'll survive longer than I had originally thought." (Ambiguous I guess)
Branwen: "I am proud to stand among such strong warriors." (This line only really makes sense for high rep)
Quayle: "This group may be capable of learning after all!" (Ambiguous)
Faldorn: "We have pleased Oak Father, I sense it." (Ambiguous)
Safana: "Mmmmm. I keep very pleasant company." (Ambiguous)
Skie: "You're the finest group of friends I've ever had." (Clearly leans towards high reputation).
Sure, several of them are ambiguous, but the tendency to be happy with a good reputation is even more evident if you consider what they say when they're unhappy.
Hey I was looking in the manual and apparently this was in the BG1 manual but I forgot. Does anyone know of an instance in game where you run into a mage from Halruaa?
The one thing I noticed during my first poke through the manual is that it shows Bards and Thief HP as 1d8. Not sure who to report this to (or did BG:EE change thief HP to 1d8 from 1d6?).
I have two remarks to blackguard’s description: 1) It says that they may use Poison Weapon ability but it doesn’t explain how this ability works. 2) It says that Absorb Health deals 2 points of damage and heals the blackguard the same amount – shouldn’t it be 2 points per level?

I assume it works the same way as the assassin but you are right it should be explained since it could be different (and since the assassin is mentioned later in the manual).

Sorry just noticed that it is mentioned, only the details are not

EDIT: a bit later: "This "roll of the die"...". Is this written like this on purpose?

Now never post again. It's cool seeing Posts: 1,000 next to your name! :P
"Die" is the singular form of "dice". One die, two dice.
The new quotes are indeed new. I'm glad to hear people like them.

BTW do half-orcs get infravision, like they should, in BGEE?

That was a blunder. >.<

Good catches on both 1 and 2.
