@LukevanV @Chow When I am on my phone, I cannot access the 'Edit' button. My phone does have internet access and I can get on this site, but most features I have on the PC are disabled on my phone. Therefore the double posts. Couldn't care less about post count. :p

I can't seem to make mine stay on full site view, even after making sure my browser options are set to desktop mode. Tried this on the default android browser and Dolphin.

@thedemoninside I use Chrome on my IPhone and use the full site view with no prolems at all. Have you tried the link at the bottom of the page to switch?
  • thedemoninsidethedemoninside Member Posts: 188
Yup, but browsing to a subforum from the main forum list reverts back to mobile view

I had cookies today, but they weren't my favourites. I'm a sad panda now. :(

    I miss my roommate.
He moved to Ireland two weeks ago. We've lived together for five years and a bit, have lived within a hundred meters of eachother the 15 years before that. I don't think that, aside from vacations, we've gone through more than two days in that time without talking to eachother.
He always left his stuff everywhere, clothes over the couches and chairs, mail and junk on the table, dirty dishes on the couches and table, possibly in the sink if he felt like it. He never went out so I never had some alone time with my girlfriend, was usually grumpy about something. So for the last two weeks, I was enjoying a sort of vacation time where I didn't have to clean up after him and could do whatever I wanted. But the house feels kind of empty now.
He was the most stable member of my D&D group, Storyteller of my Vampire group and always ready for some gaming or a movie in between. We could basicly read eachother's minds and finish eachother's sentences and while we both suck at showing any form of direct empathy, when I felt like crap he somehow always had my favorite dinner ready or had a movie that I liked.

I like having the house to myself, but it'd be nice if he was around again. I miss the grumpy bastard.

@Drugar: I'm sorry to hear that. At least you still have your girlfriend. Even though I have never lived that closely together with a roommate, I can imagine what it must be like. It sure leaves an empty space in the heart now that he is gone... May I ask why he decided to move to Ireland?

I think generally, people speak better German when they're tired and pissed off, so it should work in your advantage!

@Son_of_Imoen and @Drugar: Thank you both very much! I'll try my best! :)

There is a reason why stupid and uneducated people are happier then intelligent or wise persons. The more knowledge you gain the more you understand this world. When you free yourself a bit from your own little border of needs one must have a everday undertone of sadeness in his heart. But if that doesnt happen ignorance and evil already is in place and so the snake bites it´s tail. An illusion of "intelligence"

I don't know... sure, I feel a little miserable about the goings of the world, but the ability to be really smug and laugh at the dumb masses more than makes up for it.

@NWN_babaYaga: Wise words. Yeah, after my first relationship, the shells fell off my eyes, so to speak. I realised that people can actually go as far as to mentally abuse and deceive others. My ex actually just played around with me. I don't think he ever truly loved me, but acted as if. I don't think he ever saw a real future with me, but kept up the act because I was so naive and because he got his daily dose of care and attention that way. My emotions (and money through outrageously phone bills) were wasted on him. I realised that only months after we'd broken up. From that moment onwards, my view on the world changed quite a bit, also by lurking on various forums and following the news. I realised how destructive capitalism actually is for society and for us as human beings. :/

@Kitteh_Oh_A_Cloud: I would be somewhere closer to a communist, if it didn't have even smaller odds than capitalism to actually work. It's a pretty bad system, but the alternatives tend to be even worse.

It may be cynical of me, but I wouldn't say capitalism makes us worse than we would otherwise be, but rather the complete opposite: it's the reflection of us as a species and society, our instincts and inner desires manifested as a system of economy. It works better than communism or fascism or anything else because it goes perfectly with what we are, and that, if anything, is really depressing when you think about it.

As for relationship, try to keep careful and have your common sense with you, but give people the benefit of doubt. Some of them are actually pretty okay.

I also feel in love once with someone who truly understood to hurt you where it left a scar inside. At that time I realized how destructive words can be when you´re open to them. That changed my whole consciousness of the people around me.
Maybe i sounded a bit to pessimistic in my post above but for me it´s essential to know what role I play in the wheel of the ongoing society I live in. I ignore many things too and I´m aware of that fact. I dont push my responsibility aside or to others just because i dont want to see them or they dont fit in my glory shiny pink world..... I better live with a conscious ignorance or evil inside me to control it as to live a lie or fake reality i create for myself.

About political systems i have no clue what would be the best for all of us. I doubt that this can exists with so many humans on planet earth....

The alternative seem worse, because you have lousy options to choose from. I am a big fan of the ideas and propositions of the The Venus Project and The Zeitgeist Movement. They don't simply list what is wrong with current systems, but offer valid, obtainable alternatives. They go into great detail explaining everything, so you can't simply read a few articles on the movements and get a good idea of what they are about. In a nutshell, they promote using the scientific method for social concern, using a resource-based economy, or "open-source earth."

Their websites have a lot of good information and reading material if you are interested.

There are also many vids you can watch on youtube, such as "The Zeitgeist Movement Orientation presentation," "Social Pathology" (lecture), "Paradise or Oblivion," and "Future by Design."

Well, the US has never had a 'true' form of Capitalism, and it has mutated even further over the years. What we have now is closer to "Corporatism" and instead of Democracy, we are close to a Plutocracy. Capitalism is not a refection of us as a species - in fact, the underlying mechanisms for Capitalism (or more specifically, the monetary based economy) actually work against humanities needs.

A few core components that drive our current system are scarcity, fear, the concept of infinite growth, and planned obsolescence. True contributing factors to basic human needs, such as abundance and sustainability, have no place in our current system, since they go against its core mechanics. The economic system of the United States (and other industrialized nations) is one of the most wasteful, irresponsible, unsustainable, and destructive systems in all of human history.

@HORSE: Well, I always wondered why, for example, such big portions of food are served in restaurants in the US. I never could finish any dish fully and felt bad about it having taken away only to let it go to waste. We once went to Ruby's, some kind of fast food restaurant, during a trip in the US. Me and my sister ordered a milkshake. It was huge! And next to it, totally unexpected, you got an extra cup full of ice cream. Well, that's very nice and all, but was it really necessary? There was no way I could eat that much, heh.

I suppose there's a reason it's the country with the largest obesity rate in the world.

lol, It goes a little deeper than portion sizes at restaurants... speaking of that, there are actually few restaurants I have eaten at where I found the portion size to be adequate. I will usually order at least 2 separate orders when I go to out to eat at a diner. I've always had a big appetite, and no, I'm not a fatty.

Some of these posts are getting sanctimoniously prejudicial and borderline "racist", if Americans, as compared to members of the EU, could be considered a different "race", as far as our cultural and genetic diversity as a population.

I know that there is truth in all stereotypes and prejudices. Americans do in fact tend to be the most overweight people in the world. And there are tendencies as a population towards a whole lot of other negative characteristics, as well.

That doesn't make it okay to smugly and openly denigrate an entire nation of people.
  • ChowChow Member Posts: 1,192
I do agree that maybe we should be nicer about it, and perhaps a little more general ("Americans tend to be..." instead of "All Americans are..."), but overall this sort of flaws and drawbacks should be brought up, so that they might eventually be addressed and gotten rid of.

Feel free to insult my country and people in turn, if it helps you feel better (I'm a Finn).

Errr, sorry? When did anyone mention anything about racism? Who said that all Americans were fat? I know for sure I didn't. I just mentioned the ridiculously large portions of food in most US restaurants. (I've been to the US for five times now and have travelled in different parts of it, so yeah, I think I got a bit of a cadre of reference, especially compared with the size of the dishes in my own country) You can also not deny that obesity IS one of the problems in the US. But it's not limited to the US alone, I'm sure. Maybe we should take a step back and focus on facts again before the term 'racism' gets flung around again.

@thedemoninside: I've been thinking about some of your earlier posts. It's clear that you're older to me, as you're already married and have kids. But you know what? I still got a bigger right to complain, as I still gotta get myself established in life. Also, you're obviously closer to your retirement than I am, heh.

You know, sometimes people call me selfish. It's a flaw of mine, I know that all too well. But it's also out of self-defense. I have learned that helping people at home always comes to bit you back in the behind later on. Such as this weekend. My mom's currently ill, so I helped her out with the laundry and the dishes. I didn't mind, the laundry was actually fun. Nothing's perfect, though. I just got slapped because I was still awake, on my PC. That, while I'm almost 23, an age most would consider the one of an adult, right? A bit of independence? I also got vacation right now. So yeah... At such times, I wonder why I help people.

It is a fair question though. Around this time. ;) My dad would probably do the same. Just a different lifestyle. Or did you get literally slapped? Then you should slap back!
