I would really like to test the game too, and report bugs I see. I played BG2 when I was a kid, and am now playing them again now the EE editions are available. I have played through BG1 EE, SoD, now on BG2 EE, and would really like to try Icewind Dale 2 EE as well.
I tried GOG Icewind Dale 2 vanilla. It was a disaster, I kept playing with the resolution on the widescreen mod until it crashed on me and refuse to turn on again. I just wanna play it and see what it is like

Anyways, thank you for your consideration, here is my github:

Hello, I'd love to test the game out, I was planning a full playthrough of IWD2 and figured I may as well help with a great project while doing so.

    Thank you!

    Hello everyone,
I'm a long-time fan of games from the world of forgotten realms and DND. I play baldurs gate saga atleast once every year as well as ice wind dale. Would you please give me the opportunity to participate in testing your mod.

    Hello!

Could I please be accepted to the beta? I really love Icewind Dale 2 and would love to see it improved since we won't be getting an "Official EE".

    My Github is:

I hope you can accept me into the beta. Much appreciated ahead of time <3

    Hi all,

    Thanks

    Thanks a lot this mod!
I am playing iwd2ee now, but there is no portrait for emma moonblade. Reig redwaters's portrait is well seen. i don't know other NPC's.
How can i replace the portrait for emma?

Could anyone post more info about the npcs that can join, like alignment and class details? Thanks

There's something I should mention before I post more information about the joinable NPCs:

The main reason IWD2EE is still in beta is because the NPCs are unfinished, and we've made basically zero progress on the NPCs for a long time.

I've spent these years working on pretty much everything other than the NPCs. All of them can currently join the party, but...

    * Some of the NPCs don't have portraits, and others are just using vanilla PC portraits.
    * None of the NPCs have biographies.
    * None of the NPCs have soundsets.
    * The NPCs currently don't have banters or interjections.

IWD2EE was announced with the promise of adding new NPCs that could join the party. But part of the draw of NPC party members in these games is that they're typically more interesting than generic player-created characters. Our NPCs aren't quite there yet. They're even less fleshed out than BG1 NPCs.

What about the bugs? IWD2EE adds so many new spells and mechanics to the game that there are still likely tons of bugs we haven't fixed. But as long as there aren't any game-breaking bugs, and all the spells and mechanics work MOSTLY right in most situations, I'd be fine releasing IWD2EE. We can continue to fix smaller bugs in further updates after IWD2EE is released. It's mainly just that the NPCs are unfinished.

At this point, the best chance for IWD2EE to be released is for the NPC component to separated from IWD2EE and released as a separate mod (which will require IWD2EE to be installed).

Is there a plan to, with approval from Domi, include the NPCs from the IWD2 NPC project on Gibberlings3?

I think separating the components is a great idea!

Thanks so much for the update. I've been postponing my IWD2 run for a while because I wanted to check this out but didn't want to commit to testing. I'm looking forward to giving it a go when it's released.

Excellent idea indeed! It being optional was already my hope (I may be in the minority, but not everyone "needs" NPCs ;) ) and it may give the team some breathing room.

    Keep up the amazing work!

Oh wow, looks like this is really coming along. I've been watching this for a while, and I just so happened to recently finish a playthrough of IWD1: EE. I'd love to help playtest whatever build you've got now.

I also like the idea of adapting IWD2 NPC for IWD2 EE, so you can hire them somewhere in the game, not create party with them (with the author/maintainer permission of cause). It is a good mod with well written NPCs.

Played the original when it first came out. Would love the chance to help make this version great.

That's the way to go in my opinion. At least for me, part of the series' charm was figuring out how to create an effective party on your own terms vs adapting to what is available - as in Baldur's Gate series. All the new spells, items, feats and rebalancing included in IWD2EE serve that goal - and I wouldn't use the NPCs I guess, at least not in the first playthrough. The NPC component coming later, after the EE is widely available, would however be a welcome, optional addition for future playthroughs.

How close is this mod to a formal release?

    Thankee!

That depends what you mean by a "formal" release. IWD2EE is currently playable from start to finish. I could potentially release IWD2EE right this second. But as I've said, the NPCs are very unfinished; if I release IWD2EE right now, people are constantly going to be complaining about NPCs not having portraits, etc. IWD2EE is also currently about as buggy as Beamdog's EEs were when they were first released.

Well, I despise BG2 joinable NPCs because they are too polished. Not Korgan, Korgan is great. And Jan trolls people, so he is ok.
I like more "Pool of Radiance 2: Ruins of Mith Dranor" joinable NPCs because of no to little drama, plus some have stats you cannot achieve if you made the character.

There is a better mage in the beggining (Jarial), then a stronk thief later (Tudo). And if you love Aerie, you would like Faeril. Then Athan is an ok warrior.
The secret is to sneak your way to them before you level too much, turning them useless.
