Open Winrar and navigate to where you copied the OBB files. Long-tap until a cascade menu opens up, and tap "Open as archive".
Not all of the folders in the OBB will appear, but I don't think you need to rename all of them. Lang and override are most important. Loose files may take priority for other folders. Rename the contents of both OBBs per the post by @DraikenWeAre earlier in this thread.
I tried your method @Jinjo447, but sadly it didn't work for me
When I long-click "'open as archive" the obb (or rar) files with WinRAR, almost nothing appears so I can't rename the required folders and files.
I used to be able to do just as you described before the last WinRAR update in november 2025, as I described in my previous posts. But since then, and those new unexpected end of archive errors, I really can't modify the OBBs in any way that doesn't make the game redownload the archives. Note that the game archives themselves haven't been updated since August 2025, which is BEFORE I started successfully modding the games (in september and october 2025).
I also tried with 7z in termux to rename the needed files and folders as follows to check, but to no avail either
$>7z -mx=0 rn patch.6036.beamdog.com.baldursgateenhancededition.obb lang/en_US/dialog.tlk lang/en_US/dialog.klt
(that's an example, do the same with the needed folders)
which normally renames in place files in the archive, no compression.
Still the same problem though, which I assumed this is why the tutorial specifically asked for the use of WinRAR in the first place, cause other tools such as 7z, zip etc seemingly didn't work and only winRAR used to for some reason? (which one? has anything significant changed since the update? or am I messing up something????)
For me now, even winRAR doesn't work like it used to to manipulate the OBB files, but I'm completely baffled cause it seems to work for you? I'm at a complete loss at what I'm doing wrong here, if you check my previous posts, I'd been successfully modding on an Android 13 tablet for months before this problem arose. I've tried on that Android 13 tablet AND on an Android 16 phone but same problems.
@Shusuran Have you tried uninstalling winrar and then installing a previous version before the update.
Apkmirror have old versions of apps on their site up until present version of apps, so maybe install the version you had previously.
I understand you issue mind you as Zarchiver was what I was originally using but then they did an update which caused what you are saying, which is why I put a strikethrough line through them.
(Sorry for not mentioning this before when you originally posted about your issue, I was going through some IRL issues, so head wasn't straight.)
@DraikenWeAre Thank you SO MUCH, finally this solved my issue
Don't apologize man, of course your irl life takes precedence it's normal
So I was right about WinRAR being the problem here
I used the link you provided (on the Android 13 device) to install an anterior version. I'm pretty sure the version I used to use was 7.13, but it wasn't available so I installed the 7.11.127 version, and it worked like a charm. You can 'open as archive' the obb files and change in place the names of any file within.
After that I also went to try on the Android 16 device, and was surprised to see there actually was an android play store very recent update, 7.20.131, which also works perfectly (my bad for not checking again for updates).
After trying a few versions, I can confirm that the faulty versions generating end of archive errors were the 7.20.128 and 7.20.129 issued in november, and things have been fixed as of build 130.
The 7.20 build 130 mentions "Fixed a bug in RAR 7.20 build 128, which resulted in a larger recovery record than requested by user" so I guess that might have been the issue?
Anyway I can finally make a new playthrough I'm so happy
Btw, I used your original tutorial, ie. putting the modded folders into android/data and renaming dialog.tlk in android/obb from the patch obb file, and it works just fine on Android16 (as well as Android13), I didn't need to put everything into android/obb.
Has anyone managed to get the bp-bgt-worldmap mod successfully installed via termux on Android 16? I keep getting a permission denied error for tileconv. I get a permission denied error when I try to run mosunpack as well. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to get this to work, and this is the only mod that gives me issues.
