I may be a bit late but after installing the EE through the setup.exe, the game opens and closes instantly after selecting the resolution. Can somebody please tell the solution for it?
( downloaded the gog version of iwd2 )

Thanks for clarifying that we needed to have the vanilla game installed to use Icewind Dale 2 Enhanced Edition. If one need to get Icewind Dale 2 you can find it a gog.com "Good Old Games"

It's important that you unzip the iwd2ee-v3.3.3.zip into the IWD2 game folder. (i own ICW2 on GOG so it's in the GOG folder.) Afterwards, when you've gone through the setup in the command prompt (a pop-up window that opens by itself), remember to always launch the game with the new EE exe file, NOT the old exe file. I'd advice you to use Steam as the launcher instead because GOG will probably try to launch the old exe file. In the left bottom corner in Steam you can add a "Non-Steam-Game", go ahead and find the new EE exe file and then you can launch IWD2:EE just like any other Steam game.

If you need larger text size you can download the mod at Nexus (there's only five IWD2 mods so it's easy to look up) and use a resolution like 1366x768. If you choose a resolution that's too big like 1920x1080 the Nexus mod won't work. It's not necessary to use the text size mod but i like it and haven't encountered any issues with it yet.

If anyone's interested i've also made a banner you can use in Steam so IWD2:EE looks like any other Steam game. I've just used Photoshop to expand the edges of the GOG banner and matched the Steam resolution. Right click on the empty Steam banner and choose the image. You can also change the icon by finding the game icon on Google and change it in the Properties tab.

You can also change the "capsule art" by right-clicking the grey box and choose your own case art.

Did you edit the character using DaleKeeper? Those new feats aren't accounted for by it and so it drops the data.

I did edit one of my characters on lvl 1, way before getting these feats does it count?
But even If I make new character mid game to swap with faulty one, give new one exp (via dale keeper or cheat console), it still gets bugged after few reloades.

Message of public interest : no one should use DaleKeeper with IWD2EE.
You must use a version of NearInfinity adapted for EE by OlvynChuru.

    Thank you!

I've only installed a few components and am still on the first map, but so far, this is great.

I've noticed the documentation (under 'information', accessed via the character record) for the bard—and seemingly only the bard—is different.

It lists the song progression implemented by the 'Class Revisions' component, despite me not having that component installed. It also states the bard gets one point in Armoured Arcana, which "[reduces] arcane spell failure by 35%", rather than 5% as in the base game.

In-game, I don't have the extra point in Armoured Arcana; AA only reduces the chance for casting failure by 5%; and my only song option at first level is the Ballad of Three Heroes (which behaves as it should in vanilla, including the Lingering Song exploit). This suggests only the documentation has changed and the game is otherwise behaving as intended. I just want to check whether this is an expected quirk of the mod, and I'm not going to run into any surprises down the line?

I have the following components installed:
    0. Core
    2. Looser Alignment Restrictions for Classes
    5. Add PnP Wizard Spell Learning and Bard/Sorcerer Spell Replacement systems
    8. Better XP Progression
    19. Cosmetic Tweaks
    24. Looping Main Theme

The culprit seemed to be 5. Add PnP Wizard Spell Learning and Bard/Sorcerer Spell Replacement systems. Uninstalling this reverted the information for the bard to the correct version.

I'd hazard a guess that there's only one piece of alternative documentation in the mod files, which assumes all components are installed. There'd be too many variants to implement it dynamically.

A pretty niche case, but on the off chance (so off it's starting to smell funny) that someone else encounters this: here's the answer.

Hey. first things first, congratulations on your work. I was waiting for something like this for Icewind Dale 2. But I have problem. I have Polish version of GoG game. I instal mod, and everything is instaled successfully, but when i run game from new exe file, i cant do anything. There is no mouse cursor, cant use any keyboard buttons. Only thing I can do is minimise game by windows button on keyboard and close it. Does someone have same problem and fix it?

Is there a possibility to deactivate the new smooth scrolling and cursor movement. It looks too fluid compared to the rest of the game.

And can I use my old vanilla save files?

Been anticipating this for years, However I see it's on steam, which is a huge client, so will have to install steam via an external SSD.

IWD2 is not on Steam. It is available through GOG, however. If you have the original CDs, those will work for installation as well.

Is there a way to remove the recruitable NPCs without deleting them? Also, they appear to be unvoiced -- is this intentional or have I messed up the installation? Thanks!
  • Acrux2Acrux2 Member Posts: 80
There's a Reform Party button under the Level Up button. You can safely remove them using that. They will stay where you leave them (although there are reports that sometimes it's buggy if you leave an area and come back.)

None of the recruitable NPCs from EE are voiced.

Excellent, thank you. I see that the option to customize the NPCs' under "Sounds" is not available. Have there been any workarounds to adding voices to the NPCs?

Oh, I'd love to know that as well.

    So thrilled with this.
I don't suppose one can import an IWDEE party?
Just remembered I have this on GOG, and NWNEE, BGEE, BGIIEE, BGSoD on Beamdog's client which is a bit of an odd mixture but there ya go. Beamdog's download manager is a strange beast as it seems to make multiple instances of itself (seen in task manager) over long periods of play, so I quickly close it after starting a game.

Now upgrading the 2.01 GOG fixed version to IWDIIEE, here goes (excitiiiiiing!).
Ah, no, I think will need to watch a step-by-step tutorial video, as the mod can't find my GOG game in the GOG Games folder.

    Hey! Hey!

Has anyone tried to start EE on macbook via Crossover? The basic game runs on it without any problem. I copied the files to the game folder, went through the installation. But when I start the game and select the resolution, nothing happens. just a black screen.
I realize that it's probably not the best via wine, but still, any idea what the problem might be?

    Thanks for the advice :-)

I have a problem with game start: the game opens and closes instantly after selecting the resolution. it is literary part of second.
I installed visual studio C++ redistributables. no change
    DirectPlay is enabled.
same happens to any resolution selected
    I have no mods.
I made clean install from GoG today, deleting all previous files and saves
    I use Windows 10, 64 bit

    ...any solution?

I tried the EE with the following components besides Core Features:

    - Item Revisions
    - Better XP Progressions (partially unnerfed challenge rating-option)
    - Enemies give the same amount of experience regardless of the party's level (party of six at level 15 in endgame-option)
    - Faster Wandering Village
    - Revised Creature Resistances and Immunities
    - More Accurate Saving Throws for Enemies
    - Revise Critical Hit Immunity (critical hit immunity for undead, constructs, objects, elementals and oozes-option)
    - Cosmetic Tweaks
    - Cosmetic improvements to the GUI and New loading screens
    - Looping Main Theme
    - Revised Battle Square
    - Always learn spells from scrolls successfully
    - Everyone can perform attacks of opportunity
    - Change the way ability scores are assigned at character creation (rolling with +/-)

I love the quick loot bar, I love the fixes, I'm grateful for faster Wandering Village and Battle Square, and I had a blast in the beginning of the game leveling my solo character at a much slower but reasonable pace on HoF. I've always disliked the vanilla system that eventually stops giving you XP for low level kills, and I intensely disliked that level squatting existed.

Unfortunately, my solo character reached level 30 at the end of chapter 3. Going by the description for the Enemies give the same amount of XP-component (that a party of six will reach levels 15 or 18 by the end of the game), I'm guessing that uninstalling the Better XP Progression-component will not delay a solo character reaching max level until the endgame? If so, maybe that could be a third option for the same amount of XP-component? That would be ultimate improvement for me, anyway.

Another feature on my wish list would be being able to somehow set which type of undead I'm summoning with Animate Dead. Zombies and skeletal undead have different damage types and resistances, and depending on what I'm fighting I always spend several minutes summoning-reloading until I get x6 of the undead type I need. It would be a real QoL improvement.

    Some apparent bugs I encountered:

    - One of my parties were unable to fire their crossbows and throwing axes, and instead just stood there looking in the direction of their targets. Slings worked, though. Uninstalling the Item Revisions component fixed the issue.
    - I didn't get the Mantle of the Coming Storm from winning rank 6 in the Battle Square (only some ammo).
