Elf! I found an Elf! A green one!
  • MyvalMyval Member Posts: 127
"A green elf? There is no such thing." Branwen said, as she marched down the stairs. She glanced up at the strange bird in the cage, and shook her head, walking over carefully.

OOC: Was the hidden door opened?

"This is a sign," Minsc pondered aloud, "that evil is afoot and will be feeling the boot of Minsc on its furry backside!" Realizing that his last might be a tad offensive, he added, "Sorry, Boo."

Oh yes, now that the door is open, you can see that the elf is quite blue-green, like the color of seawater on a fine day. His hair is green like kelp fronds that you sometimes see washed up on shore. The elf pales and cringes back against the wall at the sight of Minsc and Branwen towering over him. "Please," he says, almost begging. "Free me. I promise not to tell..."

OOC Well the room seem crowded :)

A green elf? A prisoner? Maybe he knows where the meeting was supposed to take place.
  • MyvalMyval Member Posts: 127
"Don't fear, we wouldn't do such a cowardly things as hurt a prisoner." She said, as she started to examine how he was bound. "Tell us, who are you, and how did you come to be a prisoner?"

OOC: Haha, it probably is, though I was just peering in over Alora's shoulders. Or perhaps I should say, head.

The elf considers this. He appears quite young by the standards of elves you have travelled with. "My name is Oceanus," he says hesitantly. "I am of the Tribe of Mannan. I was patrolling the waters when I was... taken by these humans. They are trading with the Ne'quarash weapons for money. I do not know why they did so, but I was trying to find out why when I was taken."

From the way he speaks, he is more comfortable speaking Elvish than common. His grammar seems limited when it comes to common. If you ask him what Ne'quarash means, he cannot explain and lapses into Elvish once more.

"Is this elf evil?" That was the only question Minsc wanted answered. It was the only question worth asking, and would drive follow-on events. After the back-stabbing rogue, simply being a rescue didn't mean that they were good and he did not want to see Imoen get impaled by a sharp weapon.

Xan says in Elvish: "You have nothing to fear, we are opposed to your captors. If you tell us everything you know about them then you will be free to return to your tribe. Have you been mistreated? We have food and water if you have need of them, and are working to free you."
  • LadyRhianLadyRhian Member Posts: 14,694
The elf makes a short statement in Elvish to Xan, ending in what sounds like a plea for help.
  • Permidion_StarkPermidion_Stark Member Posts: 4,861
I think we should help him. Or at least someone should. I'm going to leave that to the strong types who can hack through chains. While they are doing that, I will start examining the chest, looking for traps and seeing if any of the keys will fit.
  • CommunardCommunard Member Posts: 556
Xan responds in Elvish then turns to the group
"Disturbing. I believe that this operation may be more than simple smuggling. We should try to free him, he may be more willing to talk to us if we do."
  • MyvalMyval Member Posts: 127
Branwen, glanced at the group, and then starts to examine the shackles that was on him. She was pretty sure that she couldn't pry them off of him, but if there was a key, then it would be rather easier.

Do we have any key we didn't find a lock for? Maybe it will help with those...
  • jhart1018jhart1018 Member Posts: 909
Can I pick the locks on his manacles if none of the keys work? "It's okay," Imoen tells the bound elf. "We'll help you get out of here. No one should be chained like that."
  • reedmilfamreedmilfam Member Posts: 2,808
"Except for evil," MInsc corrected. The elf had not answered yet, which was troubling. "Free him from these chains to let him Stand and Deliver, that my Hamster might have a better look at him."
  • MyvalMyval Member Posts: 127
"Calm my large friend. He seems to have been no friend of the pirates." Branwen frowned, and glanced over at the large fighter. If he so much tried to cause harm to the unarmed elf, he would regret it.
  • LadyRhianLadyRhian Member Posts: 14,694
At Minsc's tone, the elf cringes against the boards, obviously frightened of this big man. His hands flutter to his neck, which seems to have slits on it.
  • jhart1018jhart1018 Member Posts: 909
"It's okay," Imoen murmurs to the captive elf as she examines his shackles. She gives him a shy but bright smile. "He won't hurt you. He wants to hurt bad people. Once he understands you aren't bad, he'll protect you and help you get back to your home." She keeps her tone low, calm, and steady, not sure how much he understands but hoping he'll get the gist of it. Xan can translate, if he's really lost. :) Can I unlock him? Do any of the keys we've collected work? If not, I'll check the room, especially the brass chest, first for traps then for elf-releasing keys.
  • reedmilfamreedmilfam Member Posts: 2,808
Since Boo seemed unworried about the green being, Minsc told him, "You have curried the favor of Boo, the only Miniature Giant Space Hamster in the realms." While evil tended to cringe at the sight of Minsc, this one didn't feel evil, which meant that he wasn't (probably). "These chains must not be allowed to hold him any longer. The elf must be free of these bonds so that butts may be kicked in liberal measure!"
  • LadyRhianLadyRhian Member Posts: 14,694
You discover that one of the keys you took off one of the men upstairs (the man with the hook for a hand) fits the locks. After some unlocking and threading the chain through the staples on the floor, the elf is free, and he stands there, looking weak and tired. He whispers something in Elvish and scrabbles at his neck fitfully.
  • mlnevesemlnevese Member, Moderator Posts: 10,214
If he's hurt I'll approach and lay on hands on him then I'll offer some water from my canteen as well

Minsc do you still have some of that food we found on the other room? I think the Elf is hungry.
  • reedmilfamreedmilfam Member Posts: 2,808
As he was very inclined to pretend like he didn't hear her, Minsc paused for a moment. However, he realized that he might never look Boo in the eyes again after refusing to be a heeeero, so he sheepishly withdrew some ham from a hidey pouch. He didn't know if green elves ate pink ham, but there was always a chance. "We're all heroes," he pointed out, offering the ham to Mazzy. "You, and Boo, and I. Hamsters and rangers everywhere: rejoice!"

Alora has lost interest in the Elf who isn't as much fun as she had hoped. She wants to know what is in the box. She starts checking for traps.
  • CommunardCommunard Member Posts: 556
Xan helps Oceanus up and will lead him from the room if he can. He speaks to the party as he does so:
"My aquatic kin find it difficult to breathe out of water, I am afraid. We must help him to the sea. I have disturbing news to impart when he is safe."
He then addresses Oceanus in Elvish.
  • jhart1018jhart1018 Member Posts: 909
Okay, while Xan helps Oceanus back to his life aquatic, Imoen will help Alora search the chest for traps. Then we can try our key collection or pick the lock depending on what works. Imoen is a little concerned about the disturbing news Xan has, but she's not certain how disturbed to be since Xan is rather pessimistic. She'll wait to panic until she knows what's really happening. In the meantime, there are chests to check.

Branwen nods, "Then we should escort him to place he can make it back into the sea." She says, walking back to the door, preparing a sling stone, in case if there happens to be anything threatening, but so far it seemed that they had mostly subdued the Pirates.
  • reedmilfamreedmilfam Member Posts: 2,808
Unsure how far they would have to travel with the elf, Minsc asked, "Where is this sea? A long journey for heroes?" They could travel across the ocean in this pirate ship, perhaps, which might make the trip to sea a bit quicker. Assuming, of course, that any of them knew how to sail. Minsc certainly didn't, and Boo wasn't telling.
