Today was the first time I managed to defeat the Maulers of Undermountain without getting any of Gorpel Hind's Band of Merry Fools killed.
Gorpel seemed suitably awed by our performance but in claiming that his men had to go and bind their wounds I think he was just trying to save face because I don't think any of them got anywhere near the action.
If you ever find yourself in a bar fight I recommend casting Emotion: Hopelessness as your opening gambit. It's very effective!
Can anyone participate?
If so:
I played BG2 without Jaheira and used Mazzy for the first time. I always wanted to try Mazzy, but I can never decide who not to take, and out of loyalty I never, ever ditch Jaheira in BG2 (although I don't like her in BG1 and avoid her there if possible).
This time my paladin meddled in the first nightly encounter with the warring guilds and she was permanently killed by a vampire.
I decided to accept it (although I wasn't attempting no-reload) as a good RP reason.
I absolutely don't regret recruiting Mazzy instead. She fits well into a "holy warriors" party of my undead hunter, Keldorn and tempered post-test Anomen, and she's one tough little halfling! At last the game's amazing short swords aren't wasted on the party's rogue!
... I was waylaid by a mustard jelly and had to defend myself.
It happened when I travelled from the Lighthouse to the Archaeological Site.
at least you weren't way laid by this;
so actually speaking about today is the first time.....
today, is the first time that i tried playing a serious run with a wizerd in NWN ( well i actually started yesterday, but i say this thread today, so close enough )
so first of all, i think its been months since i've played NWN, so there have been some updates and i have to admit, that new game screen with the beholder is kind of badass, party on
so anyway here i started my journey and choose to be a nercomancer for the extra spell per day ( opposed schoool; divination lololololololololol ) best part is as well; dont have to hold a necromancy spell for my bonus slot each spell level, so party on some more
and i have to admit, it has actually been kind of fun, which is weird for me to say, because despite the fact that i have clocked in more than 500 hours on steam with NWN, i find NWN to be a "meh" game
but yet, trying out something that i have never done before is really making it feel fresh, although with that said there was still lots of frustration with RNG of coarse and those lower levels, oi, did they hurt, but slowly but surely, started grabbing some levels and its getting better
i was even able to take out the neverwinter swords at level 7 solo ( thank you icestorm and fireball ) and fireball, oh my god, do i love that spell, in the prologue i was given a rob of 15 fire resistance and the rest is history, fliggin fireballs left and right without a worry or care
so, so far so good, but im still in chapter 1 about to hit level 8 i believe, so we will see how much longer this lasts for
@sarevok57 , my hat is off to you for taking out the swords in Halueth Never's tomb!
I did another NWN playthrough last month and managed to almost kill one of them until all my healing supplies were at zero, I beamed out with the stone and came back invisibly to sneak in and fetch the item. I've been wondering if anyone ever managed to kill them. Well done!

yeah, i didn't even need to use the stone of recall to win either
Going for the old Drizzt cheese for the first time in a run I intend to continue, the gnoll's weapon breaks on the second hit, and I settle in for a very long wait. Nearly 24 game hours later, this happens:
Drizzt killed by a lightning strike. I just had to laugh.
Drizzt killed by a lightning strike. I just had to laugh.
Did you still get the XP for killing Drizzt?
I got XP for killing two Half-Ogres who were frazzled by bolts from the blue even though I wasn't attacking them at the time.
im pretty sure you don't get the XP for environmental lightning killing NPCs or monsters, i have had many a battle with drizzt where he got struck by lightning and it finished him off that i turned off weather effects because i was tired of the lightning stealing my XP hahaha

and speaking about those swords in the Halueth tomb, im playing a run right now with a paladin/monk and i was level 7 ( paladin 5/ monk 2 ) and took out those swords with no buffs or spells and i used i think 2 potions of cure serious wounds and won the fight, completely blew me away, that astral longsword +1 is quite an effective weapon i must say, and also having 30 AC helps to i suppose...

Mind you, the game my screenshot is taken from was in 2019 so if it has been fixed it has been done quite recently.
ah, but that was a peculiar instance though, so normally if i recall correctly, lightning strikes shouldn't give you XP when killing creatures, but in that instance it did, and it was weird on why it did because what happened was that first the lightning hit one of my party members and then right after lightning hit drizzt and that party member that was hit by that lightning got the kill for drizzt's death ( which doesn't make any sense )
although it's been awhile since i've killed drizzt for xp though, i just get the gnolls to do it now
Today was the first time I discovered you don't have to do any fighting in the Bandit Camp to trigger Chapter Four.
I had pretended I had wanted to join the bandits, mainly because I was hoping Imoen wold be able to pickpocket Tazok for an extra set of Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise. Unfortunately, he disappeared before she could get to him. So on a whim I got Dyanheir to turn Imoen invisible and sent her into the main tent to see if she could steal the set of gauntlets from the trapped chest. It turned out that not only could she do this but she could also take out all of the documents that trigger the start of Chapter Four and open up Cloakwood. And even though she was no longer invisible no one in the tent noticed she was there. I figured if she moved they would react so she just hid in the shadows (it took a few goes until she succeeded) and then strolled out to join the rest of the party without anyone in the camp turning hostile.
Been playing BG since it first came out and thought there were no more surprises. I'm testing a mod, so running around East BG city and I walked into s house full of killer chickens. Looks like there are still things I've never seen before ?
I finally had a party beat the DK in DT without using the mirror. The first attempt didn't go so well, but on the second, a combination of potions of invulnerability and oils of speed on my tanks, combined with arrows +2 on my archers, did the trick. Jaheira also used the lightning bolts from her club to soften him up a bit as well.
As an aside, I finally realized what those little platforms around the room are for. You put your archers up there while your tanks head down to the floor.
I have had weapons break in Candlekeep before. But to have my first weapon break during my first fight (Shank) and then the second one during the second fight (the rats!), is definitely something new!
My poor cavalier. But since it's intended as a roleplayed no-reload, at least now I don't have to rely on meta knowledge to justify carrying multiple spares!
I always just use the free staff for killing the rats. Wooden weapons don't break. Also, the only way you're missing those things in melee is with a critical failure. Even if you're a non-proficient mage with strength 6.

actually the rats have 20 AC, so a non proficient mage with 6 STR will miss with 5s or lower

You're right, of course. My point was the freak coincidence of having both my weapons break in the first two encounters of the game. I like to roleplay, and there's no reason to carry 5 weapons out of Candlekeep, unless you know they might break. And a paladin who can buy a shiny sword wouldn't use that staff (unless strictly necessary)
Today was the first time I noticed that Jaheira mocks Khalid for his stutter:
They are voiced lines so they must have been in the original game but somehow I missed them. As a side note, I sometimes forget how fine the voice acting was in the original game. Heidi Shannon as Jaheira and Jim Meskimen as Khalid really are exceptionally good.
I don't think thats outright mockery. Seems more like good natured ribbing between two close people.
The way the actors deliver the lines I would say that Jaheira is being irritable and Khalid finds her remark hurtful. But when he tries to pick her up on it she challenges him and he climbs down. It is definitely an exchange between two close people but I wouldn't call it good natured.

I pretty much concur. I think that deep down Khalid finds the teasing hurtful, even though Jaheira genuinely does not mean any harm by her remarks, and Khalid knows this, which is why he lets it slide. That doesn't stop him being bothered by the comments though.

That is one slow moving ambush!
It must be the easiest ambush to avoid but also the one that gives you the most XP.

If it has been taken away it is possibly because you made a bug report about it back in 2016 (I stumbled across it while I was trying to find a thread about lightning strikes): https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/47195/enviromental-lightning-counts-as-an-attack

ah yes, i forgot the updated engine did that
so then you would have to be a mage with no proficiency dual wielding daggers with 6 STR, talk about yikes on the thac0 score

If they were alone, yes. In front of other people, it's not something I'd want a spouse to say.
I pretty much concur. I think that deep down Khalid finds the teasing hurtful, even though Jaheira genuinely does not mean any harm by her remarks, and Khalid knows this, which is why he lets it slide. That doesn't stop him being bothered by the comments though.
I prefer to refer to as "sassy"
