Blackrazor and sword of the mask can destroy loot. Thank god for realoads.

How do they destroy loot? If you kill the enemy through level drain?
Yes. I was very confused the first few times. And i still am. I just can't see the connection between death by level drain and disintigration of equipment.

I just discovered this for the first time, this very afternoon, by roleplaying with Bassilus instead of just dissing him and attacking him on sight.

Did y'all know that if you talk to Bassilus, and give him the right answers, his entire undead army self-destructs, leaving only him without his backup to face your party? I didn't know that, and I was nervous about having decided to face him with my first level party, which I had never done before.

The screenshots below show the correct dialogue sequence to make Bassilus' undead army go poof:

Huh, will wonders never cease? I just got this dialogue tonight, from the lone hobgoblin in the southwest of Beregost. I never realized before what he was doing there, and he always attacked me on sight. I'm not sure why I all of a sudden got this:

The Stupefier! Learned about it on GameBanshee; for a moment I thought it's been there all along and I've missed it for so long.
  • BelgarathMTHBelgarathMTH Member Posts: 5,653
I still can't find that Stupefier. It's in Beregost, right? Do you have to break into a locked house and rob the place to find it? There are some lines I don't want to cross alignment-wise, and I don't like playing a common burglar. That just seems so anti-heroic, and even unworthy of a serious villain.

But seriously, could someone tell me exactly where it is? Thanks.

Yay! They fixed it! I reported that one! Get in! Back of the net!

It was a broken dialogue, pre latest patch. He normally attacks to remind you of the bandits so that the conversation with Drizzt makes more sense (especially new players who don't know about bandit camp...)

@belgarathmth, I'm having troubles role-playing; especially in BGII after I reach the cleric stronghold; it feels to serious.

    Let's take an example:
Desreta and Vay-ya downstairs the Low Lantern. Desreta is holding the Gauntlets of Ogre Power which Khalid really, really loves. You can either suggest Desreta to share her bed with you.. point where she'll attack you, or backstab her plain and simple. What to do?, should we ignore the gloves?

Another example, this is from last night, is meeting Jan in the Government District. You only have two options: lie to Trax about Jan trying to sell you illegal stuff, or answer the truth about it and condemn Jan. I had to re-load and avoid contact.

I now this looks pedantic, still... How do you save the day, hero?

@Zafiro, with the Jan situation, iirc, you can string him from jail legally.

@Zafiro You're the child of Bhaal, the correct answer is always murder and betrayal.

edit: sigh... I SUPPOSE you can try diplomacy

@Zafiro: Low Lantern, depends on your party. If you have someone who would ask random women to share their bed (Coran, Eldoth probably), let that NPC talk. If you have someone who would recognize the gloves as valuable - any thief or bard, I'd say - they could talk to her and suggest the bed sharing as a way to distract; or with the intention to spike a drink, then steal the gloves when Desreta is asleep. Someone greedy - i.e. Kagain - would probably just attack when seeing the gloves he wants. Umm. Okay, you have a point, this is likely easier to roleplay as evil. But Coran or Safana are options for a good/neutral party to have that conversation.

Never knew that, but it always amused me that she addresses a female charname as a "strong man such as yourself".

I wonder what should happen if Sharteel is the group leader when you talk to her LOL!

Well, this thread is unfortunately now derailed off-topic. While hoping that it will be quickly brought back on-topic, I may as well answer the off-topic question, as to how I handle it.

As for the gloves, I would say "what gloves"? My character has no idea that that woman in the ship casino is wearing gloves I need. I never even knew they were there, even OOC. If we presume that I can *see* them on her hands and know what they are, it would just depend. Powergaming never supercedes roleplay for me, but, if I knew what those gloves were, and could imagine any justification at all for attacking, I wouldn't be above it. Will she give me a clear hint that she's a danger to the innnocent?

As for Jan, I usually play neutral good toons as opposed to strictly-interpreted lawful good. It's easy for me to lie to the "cops" on his behalf, because he seems quite obviously a cheerful, relatively innocent, though perhaps misguided individual, who may help me and my goal to rescue Immy with his inventions. The "cops" in that scene, on the other hand, give plenty of hints that they are actually corrupt "dirty cops".

Also, "lawful good" doesn't mean "lawful stupid". I like to take the Jedi Knights of Star Wars as my interpretation of classic "lawful good, not lawful stupid". They are perfectly willing and able to associate with and be friends with shady, chaotic neutral types, if, in their judgment, such associations will serve the cause of Justice and the Force in the galaxy. Study, for example, Obi-Wan Kenobi's willingness to be friends with and glean information from the fat diner owner in Episode II, to associate with and then try to use Force Persuasion to "help" a drug dealer, after having gotten some information, and even more to the point and classically, to pay and associate with a *very* shady smuggler by the name of Han Solo, in order to obtain a ship and passage off the planet of his long exile, for him and his new apprentice.

Could we maybe move this to its own thread instead of derailing this one? I'm very interested in discussing it further, but, it's *very* off-topic for what this thread is supposed to be about.

I apologize for going astray. Yet I believe I just learned something new from it.

I learned recently (in relation to the sword of zerk) that being in the berserk state gives you increased damage. (I learned this with a kensai and kiel's star. Whenever I put it on there was a bonus to damage I couldn't account for. I assume this is coming from the berserk.)
  • KidCarnivalKidCarnival Member Posts: 3,747
@belgarathmth - She says she experiments with entropy. "Experimenting" always bears a risk to innocents, especially if you encountered the nutjob with his mustard jelly experiments earlier.

On topic, I learned that I was stupid so far and must take some complaints back. It IS (sort of) possible to side with the Red Wizards in Neera's first encounter, and not have them attack. I'm not sure why they didn't attack this time - I had Edwin, Dorn and Rasaad with me, and picked the usual "take her, I don't care" options. She zapped Ekandor, then the other wizards believed Edwin's claim that he outranks them. So far, that never stopped them from attacking anyway, but this time, they just walked away. And I shot Neera in the head with a crossbow, got the gem bag and lived happily ever after.

@Bhaaldog: Is your Charname named after the Slayers character, or is it merely coincidence?

Monk's firsts have Speed Factor of 0 (it's one of the fastest weapons in the game). Taking into account his high speed he can come to an enemy, punch him and walk away, come back, punch, walk away - this covers the monk's cons in BG1.

So, the newest thing I've learned about BG is you can fight in melee without retaliation if your weapon is faster than the one of your enemy: hit, retreat a bit, hit once more.

This helps a lot if you play a no-reload game and (or) use a monk.

BTW can Speed Factor be even better (better than 0) when a monk reaches the 8th (and 12th) level and gains a -1 bonus to Speed Factor?

I do not believe it can become a negative number.
Otherwise my Staff-wielding Fighter>Thief would attack with a speed of, like -6 or something.

So, the newest thing I've learned about BG is Speed Factor can't be better than 0 and monk's upgrades at the the 8th and the 12th level (a -1 bonus to Speed Factor) are only relevant if a monk uses a weapon (darts, for example).

    That's how I feel playing a Sorcerer. Sequencer->Abi-Dalzim's soo tasty nom-nom-nom

I've recently learned in a quickly failed no-reload challenge how awesome the Assassin's Poison is in BG1. I've played an Assassin in BG2 but this is the first time I've tried one in BG1 and it just cripples those pesky SCS mages.
