Um, I just killed Tazok in the bandit camp

As my party was strolling through Peldvale, we came across Raiken and his band of unmerry men. Following Drizzt's advice from earlier in the game, my barbarian leader, Alandra, decided to use guile and intimidation to infiltrate the bandits, rather than attack head-on.

Soon afterward, we arrived at the bandit camp. When Tazok questioned Alandra as to her motives, Raiken inexplicably interrupted and threatened to "bruise" Tazok - who then even more inexplicably responded by attacking Alandra rather than Raiken.

Being adept with ranged weapons, my party quickly pelted Tazok with a variety of arrows, bullets, and darts, but Tazok continued to press forward.

As Tazok walked up to Dorn, I figured that he was about to initiate his dialogue welcoming my party into the camp. But instead, he clubbed Dorn for 12 points of damage! (fortunately, Viconia was standing nearby to heal him) So my party continued to wail away at him.

By now, both Dorn and my barbarian were standing toe-to-toe with Tazok and clobbering him with all of their collective might, but still Tazok stubbornly refused to welcome them into the camp. Then finally, an arrow by Kivan (fittingly, given his backstory) dealt a fatal blow to Tazok. Curiously, no one in the camp really seemed to mind that their leader had just been slain, and continued to stand about as though nothing had happened.

The moral of the story?

Must say though, if I was Tazok I would be pretty suspicious of your barbarian: what kind of hot blonde barbsrian chick would join a bandit camp full of lonely men!

One who carries a big polearm!

This used to be a common thing to do to wrangle a free pair of gloves out of the game.

I remember doing it in vanilla BG1 too, but at that time, you had to keep your distance from him or else he would initiate the dialogue welcoming you into the camp, which would end your chance at killing him.

Here, he just kept relentlessly coming at us until he was killed, with no attempt to initiate dialogue.

Agree with @decado‌ . I was pretty sure this xp gain and plot loophole had been fixed though.

You know I have never been sneaky and joined the bandits. Just looking at all the dead people hanging off the tents, and thinking about what they have done to the sword caost always makes me say "bugger it" and simply nuke the lot of them. It's great fun doing it that way if you have some nice and lethal arrows.

It's quite fair that the last blow to Tazok has been dealt by Kivan. For Deheriana!

Confused... how did you meet Tazok at the Bandit Camp. I never met him there? Is this only in the BGEE version?

    No, it isn't EE only.

You should meet Tazok if you ally yourself with one of the groups of bandits that you meet in either Larswood or Peldvale. If you choose the right dialogue options, the group will agree to let you join the bandits, then escort you to the Bandit Camp where you will meet Tazok. Tazok will insist that you fight him in order to prove your worth, but after you score a few solid blows on him, he should initiate dialogue where he commends you and agrees to let you join the camp. In my case, the dialogue where he invites you to join never triggered, so he just kept fighting my party until he was dead.

I killed him on purpose, since Kivan was in my party - that's my cue to drop Kivan from the party and then have Minsc and Dynaheir join us for Cloakwood.

Ironically, just moments after scoring the biggest triumph of his adventuring career, Kivan was chunked to pieces by his fellow party members.

You killed Tazok in BGEE? - How?

I just did 107hp to him before stunning him. At this point he said "Near Death." The party then laid an astonishing 170hp of damage on him before he popped out of stun and said "You can join, I'm outta here." For good measure we pumped another 87hp worth of arrows in his backside as he turned tail to run (i don't think the game counts the HP once he is blue). From Near Death to Dead should not take 170hp!

Thought for sure i had him that time, now i suspect they have made him unkillable (appropriate, but i am on a munchkin run so i wanted to kill him twice!)

IIRC The BG:EE Tazok has a MinHP1 item (making him unkillable) when you meet him at the bandit camp. I suspect @SharGuidesMyHand made some modifications to Tazok here.

I didn't deliberately alter anything, but it's possible that this was an unintended consequence of one of the mods that I had installed.

Does the popular bg1 npc mod add Kivan's interaction with Tazok at the camp, and thus making him killable? Or is it like this in unmodded game as well?

Tazok is meant to be unkillable when you meet him in the bandit camp UNLESS

you have Kivan in your party - when you try to play it cool, Kivan will say something like "hell no, this guy has to die" and Tazok will become red-circle and killable. If you have SCS "better calls for help" then the entire screen full of bandits will start streaming toward you to attack while you try to deal with Tazok (who at this point is far more powerful then your best tank). If you had never seen that before then you will have to deal with all this while completely unprepped and unbuffed. Great fun!
This must involve a mod of some sort. I see no evidence of this being possible in an unmodded game.
