You pronounce the X like a Z when it's at the start of a word like that. Zvart

The other thread was Pronunciations, found here, but there's no reason we can't move on to a new thread.

Maybe we could make this a forum game! You post your own pronunciation of one name, then ask the next poster how to pronounce another name.

When I first got the game, I thought it was fur-crag, and the "Fir" was like a fir tree. He apparently pronounce it "fire-crag" himself, which makes me wonder why it doesn't have an "e" in it.

that's exactly how i used to pronounce it because i thought the same thing, until you meet lord jierken ( or however the holme's name is spelled ) and then he pronounces it "properly"

    and with MMM

i remember back in the day i used to pronounce it as: melfs min-ut meet-ee-ores, and i thought to myself why the hell is the word "minute" as in seconds, minutes and hours, in that spell, and then YEARS later i found out that it's pronounced: Meye-newt as in a small object, and then i put two and two together and went; ah very tricky of you game, nicely done

    hmm let's see: Svirfneblin

"dh" is often used to represent the hard th sound. Like the "th" in "the", "then" and "there" rather than "three", "thought" or "threat". Like the Greek letter Delta (at least that's what the Silmarillion told me).

Both words are standard English terms: cowl, pronounced kaol, means a hood. To be cowled is to wear a hood.

    Brage!

I pronounce Brage as "Brayg," like a horse or donkey braying. The G at the end is a hard G.

    What about Hakeashar?

Hay-kee-uh-shar, which sounds cool and foreign. Because "huckeeshur" sounds like some weird hillbilly word.

I thought that Melf's Minute Meteors was like a flashy commercial. "Melf's Minute Meteors! Solve your problems in a minute or less! Buy a scroll of Melf's new improved Meteors - get them in six seconds, see your enemies dead in sixty!"

(Melf's Quarter of an Hour Meteors wasn't a hit)

If your meteors last for more than four hours consult a physician.

But seriously, that's how I saw it too. Figured it was supposed to be a minute's worth of meteors.

It’s spelled “Mutamin” but it’s pronounced “Throatwarbler Mangrove”.
