Racism is not a side effect of alcohol either.

Most drugs and alcohol are inhibition inhibitors--they reveal the face we keep hidden underneath the mask we present on a daily basis, sometimes even to ourselves.

The "Puerto Rico t-shirt" video clip was not scripted just like the recent "zomg black people are using the grill" clip was not scripted. However, it is only a matter of time before someone stages just such a clip, presenting it is if it were an actual event, in order to make it seem as if x is happening when x is not actually happening. In other words, treat all "just leaked viral video" clips as suspect until they can be verified.

True true. Project Veritas used faked and altered footage to negative effect before. Sad. I don't normally jump to conclusions on these type of things just seeing a TON of reports of racist stuff recently.

Yes so excusing the racism on the "drunk racist" the 2nd part of the description is far more notable than the drunk part which is a cop out and a excuse.

The more things change the more they stay the same. I'm starting to think that the best thing I can do is raise my daughter not to judge people by their race, color or religion but by their character. There are plenty of good and bad people of every denomination. That also means not to train her that she's inherently bad because of her race or her father because of his sex btw. I personally couldn't care less about any of that and I just hope she sees it.

There's an intern at my work who's a migrant from Iraq. He just celebrated earning his PHD in chemistry and brought a cake to work with him. I didn't really know him very well because I don't work with him directly but thought I'd ask him about his experience in Iraq. It turns out he's from Baghdad and he had a cousin who was killed in the 'Shock and Awe' attack in the Iraq war. He also told me he survived some close calls with bombs himself. Despite all that, he told me that by and large most Iraqis that he knows are grateful that Saddam was deposed and only regret that we didn't see things through in the end. Quite an interesting perspective from someone who lived through It personally. Not something you'd hear from the mainstream media but something to think about when you hear what a disaster that war was.

U.S. President Donald Trump says he probably can withdraw the U.S. from NATO but that such a step is no longer necessary.

Unlike the JCPOA, which was the legal equivalent of a handshake in a pub, NATO is an actual treaty--no one can simply "tear up" a treaty and walk away from it.

That being said, technically it *is* possible to simply walk away from a treaty because ultimately they can be enforced only by bringing more guns to the discussion than the person walking away brought. There are other consequences to breaking a treaty, as well--don't expect your former partners in the treaty to believe you the next time you want to make a deal.

Stormy Daniels arrested at Ohio strip club. Her attorney calls it a setup.

Adult film actress Stormy Daniels was arrested early Thursday at an Ohio strip club for allegedly touching three undercover detectives during her performance in violation of state law.

Daniels, who gained notoriety after suing President Donald Trump following an alleged affair, faces three misdemeanor counts of illegally touching a patron, court records show.

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/12/politics/stormy-daniels-arrested-in-ohio/index.html

Also yesterday a federal bankruptcy judge issued a restraining order late Wednesday to block the firm of Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for porn star Stormy Daniels, from spending any fees it collects.

Avenatti did not meet a May deadline to pay the Internal Revenue Service $440,291 in back taxes, penalties and interest. The firm also missed a $2-million payment of a bankruptcy settlement.

Somehow those figures were turned into a
$10 million judgenent that he is supposed to pay.

    http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-avenatti-bankruptcy-20180711-story.html

Sure seems like those two are politically being targeted.

A few things: #1, NATO is not a situation where people pays "dues" to the US, though Trump constantly frames it this way for his followers. #2, the target for % of GDP spent on defense is 2%, not 4% as Trump is demanding. This was already agreed upon, and isn't required until 2024, which is 6 years from now. And #3, WE OURSELVES don't even spend 4% of GDP on defense.

Could be or it could be that's what they are trying to get you to think.

At least three undercover detectives assigned to follow Stormy Daniels in a strip club. Are there no real crimes to worry about in Ohio?

And Avenneti owed like 4 million in bankruptcy when he didn't pay the federal judge ballooned what his old law firm owed to 10 million. Does that make sense?
  • MathsorcererMathsorcerer Member Posts: 3,037

Sure seems like those two are politically being targeted.

They aren't important enough to be targeted for political reasons. She had the affair and got paid for it--I guess $130,000 doesn't last as long as it used to--so now Avenatti is just using her to keep his name in the news and squeeze as much money out of the story as possible, while she has apparently gone back to the life she wanted to be living in the first place. *shrug* It isn't like she is hiding her activities--her name was on the strip club's marquee for all to see.

As far as the IRS trying to target Avenatti...well, if the Obama Administration did not weaponize the IRS to target conservative groups then the Trump Administration is not weaponizing the IRS to target him. Again, he isn't important enough in that regard.

Truthfully, I wouldn't be surprised if Avenatti told her to touch patrons (or allow herself to be touched) specifically so she would get arrested and thus get her name--and, by extension, his--into the news again. He cannot sell his client's story is she isn't in the news.

Apparently a judge dismissed the charges today. It seems that the law only applied to people who performed "regularly" at an establishment of that sort, and Daniels didn't perform regularly.

If this is an example of the Trump administration targeting Daniels, it doesn't look like it resulted in anything.

I doubt it would be the administration, but a local Republican DA or sheriff wanting to score points with the Trump base wouldn't be out of the question.

Do you have a source for the media? Because you are might be passing on fabricated fake news designed to let people get a false impression. What's the point of that?

The timeline seems to be that Daniels was arrested in Ohio Thursday morning and Avenneti was on MSNBC Thursday morning in New York talking about it.

Look maybe he was handing out business cards in the wee hours, watched as Stormy got arrested and when he saw that he then left her and flew or drove to MSNBCs New York studios for an interview. A guy who can do all that doesn't need to pass out business cards on cars at a strip club. It's more likely the car thing is a deliberate falsehood.

Yes 4% of DGP in defence spending is batshit crazy. You don't need that much in an alliance like NATO. If everyone respect the 2% agreement (largely symbolic) it's already enough to deter the entire planet.

What really should be in the news instead of a High pay Hooker and here sleeze ball lawyer (handler) should be the takeover bids for Sky plc. The Left and Right media giants in the world are both trying to grab it so they can have an easier time of getting their programming *tin foil hat* into Europe. Looks like Murdoch is going to have the winning bid.

My opinion is that the EU should block this takeover attempt.

That's the environment we live in with fake news and saying "the media said" is literally creating fake news.

But in these times where people (and Presidents) are taking up anecdotes and "facts" out of thin air to please be clear that you didn't really see something on the news, it's just a joke. These times are deadly serious and it's a tough time to make jokes.

Sure seems like those two are politically being targeted.

Or it could be that they're both sleezy characters. Not saying Trump isn't, but I sure as Hell don't think those two are exactly 'upstanding citizens'.
The media is saying that while Stormy was getting arrested, Avenatti was in the parking lot placing his business card on peoples windshields.

Oy vey. Hook, line and sinker.
Are you saying you fell for that story you found on 'the media'? Or what do you mean, do tell.

The two bidders are Fox and Comcast. Comcast is not a left media giant it is a lousy pro-corporate company with some of the worst customer service ever. Fox is totally right wing propaganda though. I'd agree the EU, or whatever relevant body, should block the takeover attempt by the two bad companies.

And while I'm excited for the MCU possibilities with Disney getting Foxes entertainment stuff, which sailed through approval from the justice department, I don't like that takeover either.
I was being sarcastic/Humor ( about Avenatti ) sorry. I think you fell for it though.

Comcast owns Msnbc (Nbc) Can't get much more left programming than that.
But I didn't fall for it, I called out how it was not true. I was afraid others might read that and think it was true.

That's the environment we live in with fake news and saying "the media said" is literally creating fake news.

    So it was a "joke".

We were just talking some people going on racist Twitter rants and when they get called on it going "oh it was just a joke!" or "I was just drunk" or "I was on Ambien".

I think the people have become deadly serious, it is always a good time to make jokes about humanity's stupidity.

Yes 4% of DGP in defence spending is batshit crazy. You don't need that much in an alliance like NATO. If everyone respect the 2% agreement (largely symbolic) it's already enough to deter the entire planet.
I thought NATO members agreed on 4% by 2024? Do they think they are all going to win the lottery by then. Or do they think the IMF is going to pardon their loans?

In non-political news, scientists were able to trace neutrino IceCube-170922A back to its source, blazar TXS0506+056. (A blazar is just a typical jet from a black hole except its axis of rotation is such that it is pointed directly at us.) Now that they have managed it once it should be easier for them to replicate the process, opening up more avenues of research.

@TakisMegas I suspect this is another of your jokes, but I'll play the straight man and say that NATO agreed in 2014 that 2% was the target to reach by 2024 - the recent summit simply confirmed the existing position. Trump's tweet mentioning 4% has about as much substance as is usual with his tweets.

Incidentally, one contributory factor to the high defense cost for the US is their nuclear program - something they would not want most NATO countries to emulate.

@TakisMegas Intentionally seeding false information into a discussion is not a "joke". It prevents good faith discussion.
