Or get a companion to cast one of the many forms of invisiblity on you, or play a mage/thief etc etc. The fact is, by the time you have enough skill points for HIPS to work reliably, invisiblity is EVERYWHERE and the regular thief backstabs are x4/x5 rather than x3. And by that level the regular thief will be reliably able to find traps, open locks, pick pockets or set traps as well.
I'm not saying it is a superstar class with no downsides, just saying that all other forms of invisibility are limited to once per round (absent teammates using their action to cast invisibility on you or busting out contingency spells that do have some delay before kicking in) and the HIPS mechanic may allow for much more abuse of invisibility defensively and that this could make it a very effective combat kit even with all the limitations.
We'll have to see it in practice to know for sure.
Question about these new kits - can they still be imported into BG2, or would the character revert to the base class?
I rather like the Dragon Disciple (I usually play Sorceror) but won't bother starting a new game just now if I need to wait before playing the whole saga.
Incidentally, there is no decrease to the DD's spells per day - but they can only learn 4 spells per level overall. Which shouldn't be an issue for anyone who knows to only use the Sorceror for the main spells anyway with a back up mage for the rest. That +2 CON and +4 AC, with a immunity to fire and a very useful breath attack, looks like a good trade off.

If you tried to import a character with these new kits into a current install of BG2 I'm pretty sure you would have difficulty. I'm certain that it will work fine for BG2EE, though.

Just to confirm, I've tested (with a Dragon Disciple) and it imports as a normal Sorceror.
I do not know what happens to the constitution bonus, but I'd imagine it would keep it.
