@elminster: I think it qualifies. I liked yours, too. I'm pretty sure the mettle/metal wordplay was intentional by whoever came up with that line.
For anyone who might not know, "mettle" isn't a mispelling of "metal." Testing one's mettle means to test one's strength, so when a Copper Coronet Guard says "I'll test your mettle with cold steel," it means they're gonna smack you in the face with a sword to see how tough you are.

Incidentally, I typically keep Khalid in many non-evil parties because he is great backup for whomever is wearing Full Plate or the Ankheg Plate
