England looked surprisingly good actually, could easily have won that game. This is about the best they've looked in the WC since early on in '02 imo, don't see them winning the cup, but I am excited.
Guys, just a one-off login from me today: please, use html spoilers when talking about results or current games. Thank God I watched Uruguay (or Holland, or even Brasil) before I've come here. It would be impossible for me to open this discussion if the html spoilers are not used.
It seems it will be hard for me to keep my usual activity while we have 3-4 matches a day.
I've updated the OP and invite everyone to check it
We're getting a leader in our prediction game. @Pibaro ... I just bow to your wisdom and luck. And @Montresor_SP is not far away.
I attach the XLSX file after the first 10 matches. I'm yet to watch Argentina.
You know, I just can't find enough words to express my delight after I have watched Robin and Robben. All the words of Casilias and Del Bosque that I quoted before the tourmanent seem to actually say something - their hunger is not there. What a masterstroke by Van Gaal it was! Congratulations, @Blackraven ! And I hope, @booinyoureyes , now you think better about Netherlands.
Arjen Robben ran faster than any footballer recorded on his way to scoring the final goal in that game. De Telegraaf says it clocked winger Robben at 37km/h in his blistering breakaway for his second goal. According to the paper, that broke the previous known speed record of 35.7km/h by Arsenal's Theo Walcott.
Bengoshi! I still don't think the Netherlands are on the same level as Germany, Brazil, Argentina or even... gasp... Spain. They played a great game but that doesn't mean they will be consistent. I still think that outside of Robben and Van Persie (who both really put a stamp on that match) they don't have enough quality to win four knockout games. However, their chances have improved in my estimation since they may now win the group, which would mean they would probably avoid playing Brazil in their first knockout game. I thought that was where they would be eliminated, but if they play Croatia or Mexico I'd probably have them as favorites. Still... if Chile beat the Dutch in the last match who knows what will happen? The Netherlands do enjoy a hefty goal differential though, lol.
Farewell Germans fucked the "Porto" up to Home 4:0 and 3 of them has been "zugemüllert" (spammed) and ones "gehummelt" (bumblebeed). Spain had one left with asscard.
I've edited your posts so that they're under spoiler tags.
PLEASE, don't spoil here. Different time zones, matches starting at 2 am and watching them only afterwards mean it's better to avoid finding out the results when coming to the favourite forum. For e.g., @Daralon 's post yesterday was a spoiler for me at that moment.
Congratulations to all USA fans. This tournament is full of heroic actions and to snatch a victory is full of joy I guess.
The Germans have started OP. I wonder however if their power would be on the same level after next 3-4 games. Right now Germany looks the most impressive from all the teams here but I think Argentina will get better as the matches go by, they will improve from one game to another so that at the stage of semi-finals Argentina will have the perfect shape.
Also, a nil-nil has come as a disappointment - it's the first match when no team has scored.
I have to admit, @Pibaro is a magician. It will be hard to catch this prediction genius.
My picks for today:
Belgium - Algeria: 3:0
Brasil - Mexico: 2:1
Russia - Korea: 2:1
BTW, the second round of matches is starting. It feels so fast to me...
@booinyoureyes and @Blackraven You're free to start making match-by-match predictions any time. There're 64 matches on the tournament and only 14 of them are over. I think it's fun to compete with @Pibaro and @Montresor_SP and will be glad if more people are involved. You just need to write probable scores here - anything else I'll do myself (put your predictions into the table, count points etc)
Moreover, points from these predictions will be combined with points for other predictions that you both have already made so you still have a chance. And there's always a possibility that those who already make match-by-match predictions miss several matches due to being busy/lazy etc
Sry for spoiler @bengoshi, i don´t know when ur TV, Football playin´... in Germany screensplaying in TV at 17:00 with mods 18:00 started the 1st Match, 18:45 halftime with commercials, 19:00-19:45 ending, commercials, second Match 20:00 and so on and last Match 22:00 and so on.
Go USA! a dream start for us with a dramatic win and Portugal losing at least 1 and perhaps 3 starters for the next game. (2 injuries and 1 red card) I was at a bar for happy hour to watch this and the place was packed and cheering. It was nice to see in a country that often takes a dismissive approach to the sport.
but with the injuries we suffered the dreams have to cool a bit. it will still be a major upset if we make it out of this group. Beasley looked as bad as a starting fullback can look in the first half, but improved a bit in the second. i expect teams to try and push it down the right side regularly to test him. the inclusion of jermain jones as midfielder on that side i saw as a defensive aid to Beasley, but he proved an offensive threat as well. Jones gets man of the match in my book, despite the goals by Dempsey and Brooks. Without Altidore our striker threat was non-existent. Big trouble if he isn't able to come back at 100%, and the way it looked on the field he won't.
my predictions for games that have not started - 3-1 Brasil and 2-1 Russia

Switzerland - Ecuador 2 - 1 ( 1 )
France - Honduras 3 - 0 ( 1 )
Argentina - Bosnia 2 - 0 ( 1 )
Germany - Portugal: 1-1 (x)
Iran - Nigeria: 0-2 (2)

Uuuuuuuuuuusssssssaaaaaaaaa
USA! USA! USA!
Good game. Ghana looked a bit better for most of it, but they got away with a couple of things too imo.
I think we can already tell who's gonna win this WC...
Tschüss!

Believe me, it never happened to me before. I'm usually not good in football predictions
But the world cup has just began, there're so many matches to be played.
okay
I'll take Belgium Brazil and Russia to win
