Thumbs up for starting match-by-match predictions. I haven't watched Brazil yet so that result is still not in the XLS table.
So, Netherlands. Time to silence those who say they're one-offs. Australia - Netherlands: 1 - 3
Hmm.. How hard it is to foresee the moral state of the Spaniards. Chile can be so fast and they feel there's a real chance. On the other hand, Spain, I think, will give it all. I'd go with Spain - Chile: 2-1
Cameroon didn't impress me at all in the first match. Croatia, on the other hand, should have made it 2-2 in the opening match of the tournament but were a little bit unlucky. On the other hand, they haven't scored themselves yet. So, Cameroon - Croatia: 0-1
Australia - Netherlands 0 - 2 ( 2 ) -> God I hope I'm not overly optimistic, and that our boys won't underestimate the spirited Aussies... I can feel the nerves already.
They will cool down and take it a little easy but will still come away with the win.
2-1 Spain
They come to the pitch with their heads screwed on straight after the debacle of last match. will their goalkeeper still be Casillas? Chile looked amazing for the first 15 minutes last match, then faded a bit.
My oh my, what a match. Spectacular for the neutral observer, but nerve-breaking for yours truly... Based on the first half I'd say Australia were deserving of a draw. Amazing goal by Cahill btw.
so... this Sneijder guy must be really good at hiding in shadows, huh? Thank god he has two godlike talents in Robben and Van Persie to bail him out! Also, what a goal by Cahill!
Also I predict that at some point Suarez will see the lower half of his leg fly off and in the process score the game winning goal (like in the Simpsons episode Faith Off).
I haven't seen Spain yet. You're intriguing with these words. It's cool that I can't actually understand what has happened there.
And, regarding Holland, you can call that spoilers. I've seen that match fortunately. And to tell the truth, it nearly gave me several Xan moments.
Edit 1:
Here're my predictions for today.
Colombia - Côte d'Ivoire: 3-2 I would like these two teams disappear from this group. Alas, it's not possible. It would be a fierce encounter but Colombia will make it in the end.
Uruguay - England: 1-2 What for did England come to Brazil if they don't go into the play-offs. And in order to do it, they have to overcome Uruguay. I think they've learned their lesson from the match with Italy and will try to score 2 at least.
Japan - Greece: 2-1 My dear samurai! It's your chance. You have agility, you have set pieces. All the manga world is looking at you.
Edit 2:
I've updated the OP, you can find the Excel table with all new participants there.
Edit 3:
The King Is Dead. Who will be the new King?
Casillias: "It's hard to explain what has happened when you don't manage to win your first two matches. We apologise to the fans".
Dear Senior Casillias, I'll tell you how you should explain it. Tell it in your own words before the tournament:
"In these last six years we haven't done good things, we have done sensational things. We have earned the right to fail... La Decima is so important, it’s more so than the World Cup."
Compare it with Pirlo's attitude, who BTW is also a World champion: "Every child’s dream is to take part in a World Cup in Brazil – I’m lucky to have this opportunity."
Colombia-Côte d'Ivoire: 2-2 (x) (Very difficult to predict. I expect this to be the de facto group final so it could easily become a tactical 0-0 match. But both teams prefer attacking to defending...)
Uruguay-England: 0-0 (x) (A key match in group D, probably becomes a tactical affair with few goals.)
Japan-Greece: 3-1 (1) (Both teams need to win this match. I expect Japan to do it.)
So, yesterday's matches...
Australia-Netherlands: A surprisingly good performance by the Aussies, or maybe the Netherlands underestimated their opponents and only woke up in the nick of time.
Spain-Chile: I expected the Spanish team to realize they needed a victory to remain in the competition. I was disappointed. Chile on the other hand looks like a serious contender for the title.
The Netherlands and Chile will probably be playing their last group match to avoid meeting Brazil in round 2. Should be an interesting showdown.
Croatia-Cameroon: Yes, I expected Croatia to win, but I also expected Cameroon to put up resistance. I was disappointed.
Brazil needs to beat Cameroon to take 1st place in Group A. I expect them to do so. Mexico and Croatia will play for 2nd place. (If Brazil loses and Croatia beats Mexico, Brazil could end 3rd in the group, but I don't see that happening.)
