And that's a surprise somehow? I can't recall ever a politician actively campaigning for somebody who doesn't agree with them. Most of the time they either ignore them or try to subtly undermine them (or actively undermine them if they're an 'official' enemy). Isn't that the whole point of politics? Just sayin'...
Well it is poor showing, bad manners, and quite frankly stupid for a politician to weigh in on a foreign election. No other elected politician has ever done in IIRC (till now). The two reasons why:
1. They shouldn't have a say. Only the people of the country should voic e their opinion as they area the ones that suffer or gain the most from the choice.
2. If the politician that you were bad mouthing wins, guess what, you now have to find a way to cooperate with that person in the best interests of your own country. It'll be more than a little awkward the first time (and maybe every other time) you meet.
I think Trump's claim that "Democrats are the problem" says a lot about his understanding of the nation.
I don't think he really believes that. But it's a convenient excuse.
Trump wants power - and to get richer. He wants to cut taxes for the rich. He'll say anything and blame anyone else to get what he wants.
The most convenient targets, currently, are immigrants and democrats. Everything bad - immigrants and democrats. Everything good and beautiful is Trump, alone. Doesn't matter how far he has to stretch the truth, he just lies about it.
Here's Trump at his last rally claiming to be the most elite because he's got a nicer apartment than they do. Kid you not.
I thought he was drain, the swamp, anti-globalist, anti-establishment "populist". Nope it was bunch of crap.
He's the elite. He says so and his cult of personality will applaud anything he says.
The loophole that allows border agents to basically do ANYTHING within 100 miles of the border means that if you live or travel near a border, you have no 4th Amendment rights anymore.
We have all been living with this since at least 2003. Nearly every major city in the United States--Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Houston, New Orleans, Miami, New York, Baltimore, Washington D. C., and Chicago--falls into this category. Interestingly, about 2/3 of the nation's population lives within 100 miles of the border--over 200 million people with reduced Constitutional protections.

Don't forget Detroit. I see the Border Patrol quite frequently in my area. I don't recall ever seeing one before 9/11...
So he's basically saying he wants you vote for Republicans in midterms, they will bring up the harshest immigration measures and child caging measures after you've voted them into office and there's nothing you can do to stop them because they won't have to worry about outside pressure because you will have already given them the power to cage children.
If the stories are phony, then why did he cave to the pressure and sign the Executive Order?? Is there a SINGLE incident where if the news was negative for his Administration that Trump hasn't called it fake or phony?? Isn't there something to be said for just being capable of admitting you screwed something up or made a mistake and saying "my bad, we'll do better next time". That never, ever occurs, no matter what the issue is. Instead, we get people pretending they didn't hold nearly polar opposite positions are recently as the previous day, or just flat-out pretending things that were said on-camera that any person can go and watch weren't actually said. Keep in mind, Trump insisted for a week that he was NOT ABLE to end this problem himself. That it was a Democratic law that had to be changed before he could do anything. That was the story right up until the point that he signed the Executive Order. Now it seems we have gone BACK to the default position.
This Administration again continues to pretend that they aren't in complete control of the Federal Government. I continue to maintain I have never seen a group of people with such unbridled power try to pretend that they don't actually hold that power. The Immigration Bill in the House fell apart yesterday because (once again) Paul Ryan cannot get his caucus to vote together in sufficient numbers. This happens over and over and over again and has been happening since John Boehner was the Speaker. The number of votes they lose is always around about 20-30, and those votes are always coming from the Freedom Caucus, which is the radical wing of the GOP House that rode into office in 2010. The bills are never conservative enough for the right-wing of the party, and the hardline bills scare off just enough Republicans in moderate districts to prevent those from going anywhere. They can't whip votes. Haven't been able to for almost a decade. Then they come crying to Nancy Pelosi to provide help even though they portray her as some sort of Gorgon 99% of the time.
Don't forget Detroit. I see the Border Patrol quite frequently in my area. I don't recall ever seeing one before 9/11...
I didn't list every city, only a handful--leaving out Detroit was not personal. A visual map may be found here on the ACLU's home portal.
Does bordering the Great Lakes put Chicago into this category??
Anyway, as I look at this, a worst case scenario in a conspiratorial kind of way comes to my mind. We know whether you vote liberal or conservative (generally speaking) tends to correlate pretty heavily with whether you live in urban or rural areas. Looking at this map, it would be incredibly easy for a right-wing leader to crack down on every liberal power-base (from a voting perspective) in the country simply by using the Border Patrol. Likely to happen?? No. But in times like these, it never hurts to wonder. If they were to set up mass check-points in say, Los Angeles or New York, I could see chaos and violence resulting.

Nobody show this map to Steven Miller, Steve Bannon or Donald Trump then.
If there was violence, that would give them the excuse to institute martial law. Mass check points in LA and NY would be a traffic NIGHTMARE lol.
That alone would be enough of a terror campaign by Trump's Red Hats to terrorize them "dirty libruls". Trump seems to want his supporters to consider that those guys aren't "real Americans" , they are "animals" . I'd guess this plan sounds really good to Trump. Surprised he hasn't ordered his ICE to do it yet, maybe waiting until after midterms when you are stuck with Republicans and can't vote them out.
Does bordering the Great Lakes put Chicago into this category??
Yes. For the purposes of this map, "border" typically means "where the ocean meets the land". We should probably cross our fingers that they don't expand the definition to include "any airport which connects to any flight coming from an overseas airport" because that would include every major city not already inside this region.
Nobody show this map to Steven Miller, Steve Bannon or Donald Trump then.
They already know about it--it is public knowledge. Why are you concerned about Bannon, anyway? I thought he was out a year ago....
As for the other conjectures...wild conspiracy theory is wild. No one is going to crack down on the large cities inside the 100-mile zone. On the other hand, right-wing conspiracy theories went on for 8 years about Obama's FEMA camps so we cannot fault left-wing conspiracy theorists from talking about martial law in major cities.

If anything, we should fault people even more for believing in conspiracy theories, after 8 years of fake ones.
We told you guys Trump was bad news - you guys just shrugged it off about being overblown, he can't be that bad.
Would you believe that here we are with today Trump putting children in cages with no plan to put them back with their parents, calling immigrants animals, lying about EVERYTHING, and saying there's good white supremacists.
And he wants more control over our lives.
We told you.
You need to reevaluate what is possible not us. #SpaceFarce
Meanwhile it was party time yesterday. 21th of June music day in France, they celebrated it at the Elysée Palace (our White House)... No, this is not a fake:
Great. That is a leader strong enough to get along with all kinds of people. He isn't trying to increase his own power by scapegoating those that have differences as the enemy.
European tariffes on American products are enforced since today.
- They don't target products sold by American companies but made elsewhere (like cell phones) but rather American made products. - They mostly aim at products coming from areas that voted for Trump - Mostly farming products are affected: corn, orange juice, peanut (inc. peanut butter), whiskies and also cigarettes. - Concerns clothes too, mostly jeans and leather shoes. - Heavy industry is concerned too, moto with an engine larger 500m3 and ships (motorized or no) - Lastly make up products are also facing those tariffes
These tariffes will rise in time and be expanded to other products if the US administration fails to end the tariffes on steel and aluminium.
I still don't see what all these tariffs are supposed to accomplish. I don't know what the Trump administration has gained from them except for a bunch of retaliatory tariffs from other countries.

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada is discussing changes to a multibillion-dollar fighter jet procurement process that could make it harder for a U.S. company to win the order as trade relations between the neighbors sour, two sources with direct knowledge of the discussions said....
I still don't see what all these tariffs are supposed to accomplish. I don't know what the Trump administration has gained from them except for a bunch of retaliatory tariffs from other countries.
There was no plan.
He thought he knows everything about everything and the reason other Presidents didn't use tarrifs was because they were weak. That's not the reason, it's because obviously they can retaliate and you end up in a trade war. They are not things to do on a whim.
He doesn't listen to experts, scientists, economists. He listens to his gut and right wing conspiracies. All this has resulted in his businesses declaring bankruptcy 6 times. Including answering the question of how do you lose money on casino? He managed.
The myth that he was a successful business man was staged for TVs 'The Apprentice'. Not kidding.
I don't think european tariffes will all work well. Someone buying a Harley moto or an Allen Edmonds pair of shoes, or an Elijah Craig barrel proof bourbon, will pay a significant amount of money. Cigarettes won't be too efficient too, most of cigarettes in Europe come from Egypt and are taxed AF already.
On the other hand the other agricultural products are going to be more problematic for the USA. The EU is likely one their biggest market (maybe the biggest beyond their home market) and products like orange juices don't have such "prestige" that would justify an additionnal expense from the customer.
Lastly ships will be a problem too. American made ships again don't have this "prestigious" image that would justify an additionnal expense for super rich people and cruising companies look at other factors than the nationality of the workers.
"MS-13 gang members, including 10 illegal immigrants, charged in deaths of Virginia teens
Eleven MS-13 gang members – all of whom are illegal immigrants except one – are facing life in prison after being charged in the kidnappings and deaths of two teens whose bodies were dug up in a Virginia park last year. The ages of the male gang members charged Friday ranged from 20 to 27. All of them are from El Salvador and only one – who is believed to have fled the country – is not in police custody, according to NBC Washington. Police uncovered the bodies of 17-year-old Edvin Escobar Mendez and 14-year-old Sergio Arita Triminio at Holmes Run Park in March 2017 after receiving a tip. The two teens disappeared just weeks apart the prior year."
This is what tariffs do. They squeeze out the little guy both on the consumer side and business side.
I don't see how less competition from foriegn supranational corporations is strictly bad for a local buisness.
If we're talking about those softwood lumber tariffs, the article says that American businesses don't actually produce enough lumber to satisfy American demand. America consumes more of that lumber than it produces, so making it more expensive is going to hit the consumers harder than it helps the producers. It would be better for local lumberyards only if local lumberyards were actually able to fill that market share.
Oh, i'm not talking this specific issue, hence my use of the term strictly. I think it's context dependent whether it benefits your small buisness or not really. Regarding tariffs in general I do think it is unreasonable that other countries put tariffs on us while we issue none in return. As you can see, when we wish to do the same, they are quick to do what we wouldn't do and defend their own interests. Making enemies on multiple fronts at once was not how I would have done it though. Court one ally through negotiations and put trade tariffs on China, the real offender, is how I would have done it. Though Merkel would be unlikely to negotiate, at least fight one battle at a time. I can only assume he may want some multi country deal to remove all or most barriers.

Eleven gang members involved in one incident, in a place like Virginia rather than a major urban area, sounds like an issue bigger than a single incident.
Life in prison. Sounds like an appropriate punishment no one would argue with.
Last year in my city, a pregnant Native American girl went missing and was later found out to have been killed. It turned out a couple had forcibly removed her child from her stomach after luring her up to their apartment, intending to keep it for themselves. I found out from my landlord later on the woman who committed this murder had, two years prior, lived next door to my apartment.
Would it help police in future investigations to focus on everyone who has lived in apartments adjacent to mine in the last decade whenever a murder is committed?? Of course not, because those two things have nothing to do with one another. Being a murderer is what makes you a murderer. Crossing into the US whether seeking refuge or even illegally is not a red flag that you are going to one day murder teenagers anymore than me hearing my former neighbor yell too loudly at her boyfriend occasionally would have tipped me off that one day in the future she would totally snap and murder a pregnant woman to steal her baby.
OF COURSE there are going to be examples of members of a group of people committing violent crime. For the example I mentioned, you could single-out females, people who suffered a mental breakdown, or people who used to live in my apartment building. You can find a sufficient number of violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants to put on a press conference exploiting those murders to justify child separation at the border, as if they correlate. It will have it's intended effect. But raw statistics continue to show that undocumented workers DO NOT commit more crime, and in fact commit much less overall than citizens do:
There is no "other side of the immigration debate" if you look at the facts.
Immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than citizens. They are not inherently more violent. Immigrants are powerless, they can't vote, they have no voice. That makes them an easy target for demagogues like Trump.
So what's all the fuss about, Trump? Why do you try and scare people by painting powerless people as violent criminals infesting our nation? Hmm... Who else did that sort of thing?
"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country." - Hermann Göring
Gee sound like anyone we know? Who is it attacking the patriotism of kneeling NFL players and saying we're being attacked by illegals?
My advice to right wingers - don't be so weak and insecure. Stop being afraid of other people that is what the government wants because then they control you and will happily take away your freedom in the name of security. It's a game they are playing with you to take away your freedom.

Trump held a press conference today with "victims of illegal immigrants". Why isn't Trump holding press conferences with the victims of gun violence or school shootings? It's a much more serious problem. He wants to distract you. Scare you.
I am all for (and would even encourage) that every MS-13 member who commits a heinous crime be jailed or jailed/deported. My issue is that because of Trump, MS-13 is becoming synonymous with "every single migrant or refugee from Central America might kill your children".
It's getting to the same point as evoking 9/11 did to justify any acts taken in regard to domestic civil liberties and foreign policy moves during the Bush Administration.
Point being, what is clearly being done here is the oldest propaganda trick in the book.
