But as the time went by, I became more and more involved into conversations here and there. This forum has seemed to me a friendly place, the only one in the whole Internet where people are generally pleasant, kind and very informative. So I began commenting in other threads, began participating in various votings, began knowing who is who here.
As more months went by, I understood what a wonderful place this forum is. From that time I came here everyday, reading discussions and posting just for fun. It was still a long road to become the real forumite.
Then I began understanding how the reactions system works, I got a good advice from @BelgarathMTH that in order to become a person here, I should react to other people's posts and comments.
To that time visiting a forum has already become my everyday habit. I began reading threads not only in the general section but also in the off-topic and a few others. The challenges and playthroughs were especially interesting to me then.
The closer I have been learning the forum, the better I have been feeling. To that time I completely forgot about "why" I had come here at first, the forum became just my usual place to spend the time between my working projects.
Now I'm absolutely "in" this place. To me, it's much more than a place with some new information about IE games.
It's like a virtual home, really. I can - and do - discuss here everything there's in this world that can be discussed: politics, economics, news, sports, pictures, music - and of course, I still like to discuss BG and other games.
Now I have good friends here, I really feel here like at home.
It all started in the East, but the evil was already inside, you started to like it, but @BelgarathMTH gave you the chance to survive, In the end you are the only one to blame.
Am I right or a fireball is going to explode here?
It was a condition of my parole.
I made a deal with the devil and rather than take my soul he made me create a profile here.
I want to be here.
Finally, because every now and then the rest of you need me to stick my nose into your conversation and either give you information of which you were previously unaware (which you may or may not have wanted) or give you unsolicited advice which you may or may not need.
I stayed because of the meme thread
I actually made my account a while back, but did not post anything for a long time. Then I wanted to look up how to install mods in BGEE, so I came back a few times. Then I found the meme thread as I asked a question about my game. The rest is history.
With time I participated in all of the Roleplaying challenges, eventually became a Beta Tester and later a moderator.
And let me tell you it feels good to be able to keep this place in the Internet I like so much safe for all the nice folk we have here. It is really nice we have so many nice people in the same place and even most delicate issues may be discussed without generating a flame war.
And where else would I be able to discuss Pizza with an Italian, in english, while I discuss the merits of being undead with a gnome mummy? This forum just has the correct ratio of insanity/useful information/funny stuff I came to appreciate.
PS. Please Spambots just select the advertise option so that we can banish you... pretty please?
The reason I stayed is because its the only internet community I actually like and is polite with each other.
...
*This involves writing a note and holding it up to the jar containing his heart on the mantlepiece, before picking the jar up and adding the note to other important scribbles given to heart, a few quite badly beaten up notes clearly say "I love you to"*
Wow! I came here because I was so excited that the game was being enhanced, that I wanted to put in a feature request for my Gnome to be able to ride a horse, camel or dragon.
I was quickly told no.
Dreams shattered. I stayed to torment the living. Unfortunately @Shandyr is the only other forum poster I have positive proof is actually alive after hiding Broccoli randomly within forum code.
I now torment him alone.
But you other spambots are OKAY.
Also it seemed like a nice active community, I used to hang around on the Baldur's gate GameFAQs forums a little bit, not enough to be a regular and that place felt a bit negative at time.
Turns out, this place is pretty awesome. Never looked back.
I'm still here because of the meme thread and other fun stuff like it. My husband and I are the only people we know in real life who play Baldur's Gate, so it's been a blast reading other people's experiences with it.
Have to say I like it so far and agree with the opinion that it's a friendly and helpful community. For example, I'm a member of quite a few online forums, the debate on Minsc's alignment (one of the first threads I posted on) had the potential to become quite heated, but everybody has been polite and respectful, despite harbouring different opinions. In some of the other forums I belong to, a thread like that would have degenerated into arguments and would be locked by now! So, the members here are a credit to the forum and I'm glad I joined.
Being quite socially limited I tended to simply lurk for the majority of the time until earlier this year when I imposed some self-therapy upon me, making me actually post and respond and engage with people as left to my own devices I rarely talk to anyone but my wife. So, uh, apologies for that, but you're all engaged in my experiment.
