@Elminster Oh you're like the kid in school who doesn't see the harm in using a calculator during a math test. :P "Use all means at my disposal, as long as it's for the greater good... of my grades."
It's not a question of believing. Go play the EE and the original and tell me, based on ACTUAL FACTS derived from comparison of both in which sentence I'm wrong.
How about "no"? I have many fond memories of IWD going back 14 years now, followed soon after by HoW, TotLM and one of the few other mods from other people I ever installed--Auril's Bane. It was with only a little sadness that I uninstalled and removed the original IWD from both computers here because I prefer IWDEE.

Dude? Have you ever tried Calculus? Go ahead, solve 3Ln5*4^3 without a calculator... go on!
I also recently played the original IWD, and I only really missed the zoom function and the quick-loot. There's not much difference other than that...
My only gripes with EE is the missing Guard function (it's on the list), the extensive loot, and the places you can rest... Oh and the sound sets not working properly (this is also beeing fixed I hope).

I respectfully disagree. There is much more to enhanced edition than just zoom and quick-loot bar. Iwd:ee has the cool bg2 spells and kits on top of what vanilla iwd can offer. That fact alone makes it feel like the ultimate, most complete Infinity Engine game to me. Of course, there is the lack of HLAs, but I think HLAs should be special and uniue to the ToB story line where your characters are the stuff of legends that deal with the destiny and gods, shaping the realms as they do so.
The OP mentioned that this is the third time Beamdog has dissapointed them. To provide balance in the universe (all that yin and yang!) I just thought I'd pop by and say this is the third time Beamdog have made me joyously happy and full of merriment!
And not only that, but my recent experience with IWDEE has been more efficient and trouble free than my last two experiences (which, whilst full of joy, did contain the odd bump in the road!).
This shows (I hope) that Beamdog is growing and developing and maturing, and that we can expect even greater things, full of even more pleasure and joy and merriment (if such a thing is even possible), in times to come!
Personally I haven't had any gripes with IWDEE. Only positives for me. I like every second of it, from the starting screen to the Severed Hand (where my party is right now).
To confirm my words, I've written my own review on IWDEE.
Negative Plane Protection has slightly broader protections in IWDEE. Looks like it protects against the Thac0 penalty you get from ghasts as well as shadeless.spl (not sure what uses this), shadow1.spl, Larloch's Minor Drain, Vampiric Touch, and Lich Touch.
shadless is the melee curse effect from lesser shadows.

I think you're forgetting the higher trig functions, the ridiculously annoying indices, Surds and the absurdly complicated numbers that don't actually make it more difficult but take ages to punch into a calculator All in all you become more attached to your calculator than your own mother
A level maths is horrible I'm lucky to have gotten my E (still a pass btw for those who aren't familiar with english grading systems)
oh and 3ln5*4^3 simplifies to ln32768000 which works out at 17.3 (3sf) yes i used a calulator for that (and only managed it because i had to recap logs last friday)
I just finished the Original IWD a couple months ago, and now I'm completely loving the EE. I like having more class/kit options and I like how great the interface looks. Now I would say, for anyone on a very tight budget, IWD probably benefits the least from an update of any of the IE games. But I'm still happy to see it, and I love what's been done with it. I'll be even happier when I can put it on my iPad in a few days.

... I was just being generous!
Either way, my biggest gripes with IWDEE that have me hesitant to get are that I cannot change settings to fit the original IWD preexpansion model. I can ignore the changes to the models from BG1 to BG2, but why can't I choose to go by Baldur's Gate specialist Schools, or do Fighter/Conjurer Dual classes? Why was the Morningstar of Action removed in HoW? What were they thinking?! Why do Star Forged stuff suck by compare?!
I want to be able to turn settings back to original.

Some good questions, however it would seem the decision was made to stick with HoW's implementation
If an option to allow Cleric/Rangers to play by either rules exist, why not for mages or loot tables?
Because that's a lot easier to implement than adjusting merchant inventories and container contents. Those things are all fixed, you would need to do a lot of scripting to make that kind of change. It just wouldn't be worth the trouble frankly.
Go ahead, solve 3Ln5*4^3 without a calculator... go on!
3ln(5*4^3) --> 3ln5 + 18ln2 (by following the normal laws of logs).
We know e^2 = 2.718*2.718 = 7.387524 so a guess of ln(5) = 1.7 should be within 10% of the actual value. Similarly, we know e^1 = 2.718 so a guess of ln(2) = 0.75 should be within 10% of the actual value. 3*1.7 + 18*0.75 = 18.6. Now...let's see what my hastily-scribbled mess with a red pen has gotten me....the calculator says 17.305, which is only 7.5% error--not bad. I suspect my guess of 1.7 is a little high. *shrug* With more time I could recreate a more accurate antilog table but there is no point in reinventing the wheel.

Well, if you made wheels square, or triangular, they wouldn't roll away on you!

Nature finds a way...
Well, obviously you could still wedge those wheels, clearly making them even more secure.
The last thing we want to do is start talking about trigonometry here. Why? Well, 'cos that's a sine that we're going on a tangent. Let's keep this thread on topic.

argh....cannot find it right now--there is another shape which has the same properties as a circle (the set of all points equidistant from a fixed point) that has been used in internal combustion engines. I cannot recall the name of this shape or the engine type in which it is used but it looks somewhat like a triangle but the edges bulge out a little and the corners are slightly rounded with only a hint of a point on them. You can recreate this shape by getting some clay and rolling it out in between your hands while holding your hands at a fixed distance. Anyway...this shape allows for smooth rolling just like a circular wheel without being circular.

Any how I do agree, the GUI was better being left as the original. So I'll wait for a mod to change it back.
