Side note: you guys should all go out and play the Baten Kaitos games. Right now. The first one has the best twist in gaming history, one of the best endings I've ever played, one of the weirdest epilogues to ever be written down and the absolute wonkiest second ending possible. It's like the writers had a meeting to discuss the ending, got it down solid then got drunk and started throwing out crazy ideas only to come in the next day to find that the greenhorn programmer hadn't got that they were joking and had put it all in the game.
... Darnit. Now I wanna go play Baten Kaitos again. Such a good game, though the battle system took some getting used to. I don't have the time for this!
@kcwise and @Necomancer also played a big part in my forum story, but I was a jerk and failed to mention them.
@kcwise is a most excellent ferret and a real pal. He goes into the roleplaying/imagination treasure trove that is this forum
@Necomancer made the best Baldur's Gate comic ever, even better than the Minsc Legends of Baldur's Gate comic they sell nowadays. He even used my hashtag in one of them!
Speaking of the devs, it was one of the best experience for me, when i learned, that there is a member from my country in the BG Team (i wonder if @Avenger_teambg can confirm this?). @AndrewFoley 's don't ask me anything thread also compete for the best experience.
I know it's wrong to judge on appearance, but YEEEAAAEEUUUGGGHH that's one seriously scary looking beastie right there. I'm sure she has a great personality though.
You know... Looking back on some of the posts I made when I first joined the forums makes me realize just how green I was back then... I knew so little about how most of the Infinity Engine truly worked... I knew nothing at all about Weidu or NearInfinity or any of that stuff... I had never looked at any of it before I joined... It sometimes amazes me that just in the space of a few years I have become one of the most knowledgeable people on these forums about the function of the engine as it pertains to BG (ok, aside from devs and possibly modders); that is, if I am allowed to say as much. Not that I intend to boast or anything... I am just amazed that I could do this... I doubt I would have learned so quickly if it were not for the help of this wonderful community. Yet, as I say this, I realize there is still much that I don't know or understand about Infinity Engine. I still have a long ways to go before I can ever be as knowledgeable as many of the devs or modders. I wonder if I will ever be that knowledgeable... I guess only time and effort will tell...

pah! you have no taste, talking sword! By yeti standards, that's pure pinup material!
Why did you join the forum? I am not entirely sure anymore, but I assume I just wanted to have some people to talk with about my favourite game(s) of all time
What did you do when you first joined? Well, according to my comment history, I posted some of my BG fanart here first.
What, if any, were the turning points of your forum story? Not sure what this means, so I'll skip this one :X
What is your favorite thing about being a member of the forum? Well, being able to talk about BG all day long, of course xD
What other members were important to your forum story? Oh god, so many. I met so many awesome folks here and became friends with some. I guess @LadyEibhilinRhett was the most important though, even if she isn't on here anymore, but we have been friends through DeviantArt, Tumblr and Skype. She always was a big inspiration for me and I always loved her art and her sense of humor. She also is a true lore-master and knows basically everything about the Forgotten Realms and Planescape. I would name all the other people, but that would probably make the post way too long. I do believe though, that the people in question know who they are
What was your best experience on the forums? The meme thread, definitely. The hilarity goes beyond comprehension and often re-read it when I am bored or sad. Otherwise I am always happy to see other people's fanart here.
What do you think now, looking back on your forum history? The forums and I had our ups and downs, but over all I am really glad I joined. And if it's just for all the unbelievably stupid jokes I got to make and enjoy with you guys xD
I've been playing the BG series off and on since 1999. In the summer of 2012 I came back to it after some years prior having worked hard on a RP-intensive NWN2 persistent world project (Exodus: Shadows of the South). The BG games fit the bill nicely for just relaxing and enjoying myself again with the RPG hobby. However, to my dismay I found that the Planetbaldursgate.com forums that I had used for the previous dozen years had been removed! So I went in search of a new home to share my love for the game. And I discovered that Beamdog was developing the EEs. So I joined this forum immediately (July 2012).
A couple years ago someone with questionable judgment (;-P) recommended me for moderator, which I was pleased and honored to do. A currently crushing RL schedule unfortunately limits me to just looking in regularly on the Challenges and Playthroughs forum--which is pretty much self-sustaining, thank goodness. I do however still look in on the General Discussion forum fairly regularly, even if I don't have time to play or add comments.
I plan to eventually complete the "Let the Fates Decide" RP journaled adventure. It may takes even more years, but I intend to do it!
I'm more grateful than I can say to @CrevsDaak for his labors in having recoded and bug-fixed the "Keeping Yoshimo" mod to make it available for BG2EE. That mod does open up possibilities for party composition, so it's a nice option to have available. I know it has been a work in progress, but it seems to be in pretty good shape now. Crevs is wonderful at responding promptly to bug reports.
I want to add to what a great community this is, and how much I enjoy chilling with everyone here. And the Beamdog staff is just unbelievably good at staying connected with its fan base.
I was sitting at home, hanging out over at RPGCrossing.com, when a new thread appeared saying that BaldursGate.com was suddenly alive and doing stuff. At that point I, like many of you, didn't know who Beamdog was or what they were planning. Then the countdown appeared, and I, like many of you, spent the next several days speculating about what it might mean, was it an HD remaster, were they making BG3, was it secretly just some prank being made by @CamDawg to plug Gibberlings3 (and if it was it certainly worked because I reinstalled and modded up BGII almost immediately). Then the countdown hit zero, the site went down from everyone and their parents trying to refresh to see what was going on.
When Cam (that's Cameron Tofer, who is not the same person as @CamDawg) announced that there was going to be a forum devoted to the Enhanced Edition, I put my name on the list within hours, and as a result I was one of the first people to join here.
That's the "How did you get here" story. As for my favorite moments on these boards, I'd say it was the "Ask Us Anything" threads that we did a while back. Lots of good questions from players, lots of good answers from developers, and generally a very constructive relationship. The problem with those threads is always maintenance, but it was something that I found very valuable--not primarily for Beamdog, but for this community as a whole.
Looking back, I wish the Roleplaying forum got more attention. There's a lot of really great players here, and as someone whose internet background stems from play-by-post RPGs, it's something of a passion of mine.

Mwhahahhaha! I remember that thread... Very constructive!
I asked you one question...
It was this...
Your reply was this...
I never replied...
But know this...
A mummy holds their community moderators hands for a shortwhile, and their hearts in embalming fluid forever...
I was asked to join, to be a beta tester for BGEE since I was in the modding community and the leader to one of these communities. I'm one of those old relics who has been around since BG modding began in 1998. I would have joined any way since I love the BG games. There's some cool witty people here.
Sadly I haven't been around much, have more important things to do instead of procrastinate over them for ten years. Like writing! I have short stories and poems I wrote ten years ago, on paper that I haven't transferred to Word. Also I have my post-apocalypse and high fantasy novels going as well.
Thanks to BG, I got into modding, and thanks to those two things, I got into writing. Because in modding when you make an NPC mod or two you are telling the story of a character and the world they come from. Which is what you do when you write fantasy, tell the story of the Main Character and their world.
I read through all the old Ravenloft novels and some dragonlance back in the day, shouldve got more into forgotton realms considering all I know from it is from BG mostly. @CoM_Solaufein you did some mods for BG right?
While playing one of my first runs through BG:EE my party got into some unexpected trouble, things looked dire. I had this Cloudkill scroll and figured that the best way to save my tank/leader was to bug bomb the lot of them. Cavaliers are immune to poison, so I figured he would not be harmed. I was so wrong. I needed to voice this injustice so I came here to do so. I found it very nice to see so many other souls that love these types of games as much as I do. In this day and age of big graphics and fast paced first person realism, we still appreciate portraits of art that inspire our imaginations to see things in three dimensions. The forums are friendly, helpful, funny, and informative. I like to make people laugh when possible, I guess if I have to think of a turning point it would be my thread about knocking a skeleton man unconscious. Pretty funny, and although I make fun of the quirkiness of these old games I do it out of love because I wouldn't want them any other way. In fact, I don't mod, at all. I've played through BG1 dozens of times over the past 15+ years and I have never played more than an hour or two into BG2. I aim to change that this year! This is the year! I am currently running through BG with a neutral evil blade who uses the two-handed swords as his weapon of choice. I'll gradually start dual wielding in the sequel, and provide support for the party of Hexxat, Dorn, Viccy, Korgan, and Edwin. Anyways, the amount of friends and acquaintances is too numerous to list, thank you all for having me and as they say in Faerun, "Until Swords part." (hetero-sexually, of course)

I joined this forum in the fall of 2012, mostly to get info on the upcoming iPad release of BGEE. I had played vanilla BG1 back in 2001 or so. I had seen it on the shelf at the local computer store for quite some time, but never had the $40 (!) for it. Once I finally got it and played it, I liked it a lot, but never made it past Nashkel Mines. I remember distinctly Minsc going berserk and wiping out my entire party because we hadn't gone on his mission soon enough. I didn't have any saves early enough before that to be able to make it to Dynaheir without him losing his $#!@ on me, so I put it away...but I always meant to get back to it. When BGEE finally came to the iPad, I was hooked immediately and have been ever since. I think hardly a day has gone by since I joined this forum that I haven't checked in at least a time or two or twenty. Early on in my visits, it was pretty intimidating, as things weren't nearly as civilized as they are now. But there was a lot of really great info to glean from veterans to help me get past some of the tough parts of the game. It really amazes me that these games are well over a decade old, and there's always something new to learn or debate about them. I'm not sure if I had a specific "turning point" in my stay here, but for whatever reason I've been contributing more over the last couple of months. It's a lot of fun to watch my point count go up or to have people be interested in and comment on my goofy play through in which I dump all the dead bodies out in the woods! and hopefully every now and again something I post is helpful to others just getting started out... One thing that's become really clear to me over the last couple of weeks is that this really is an exceptional place to come and talk about our shared hobby, as well as any other thing. I've spent a lot of time on the Obsidian forums recently just looking for info about mostly technical info about PoE. I have to wade through pages of rudeness to get to the info I'm looking for most of the time. Many kudos to everyone, and especially all the moderators, for keeping it classy here! The end.
Edit: one thing I'd like to add...as much as I love these games, I'm not sure if my enthusiasm would be as long lasting without this awesome community. I won't name check anyone specifically, but there are some pretty damn interesting characters around here!

Thank you:) It's interesting, really, that this forum, although it is about BG, may still be a better place to discuss PoE than the Obsidian boards;)
I'm afraid the facts of my story are quite....inconsequential, I came here to find mods having found the forum long before I formally joined, the mummies and other hilarious people brightened my days, and evenings, as I plumbed deep into the awesomeness that is this forum, the people are helpful, and knowledgeable, they know what they're doing, and are respectful of each other, making this a beacon in the stupidity that is the normal forum, and so I am able to learn more easily here than elsewhere, still working every so often on my party of icewind dale killer squirrels, but such is the fun of modding, in short I like this place it is a rarity in forums one filled with fun and respect, and so rises above the usual stupidity.

Furballs of the Forum Forever! Sorry, I have this thing about capitalizing F words. Um, wait, that sounded bad...
edit: removed extraneous F words
I'm too scared to type that into google search, though...
Thanks a lot for promoting this thread, @Dee! Additional thanks for calling us "the best":)
but in all... I do still love all of you....
Favorite moment : When someone actually wrote a pm to me..........
Please shut the f... up it said :P
