@Dragonspear I'm certainly around but I do a lot of lurking these days. I'm not entirely sure why, I just find that every question that is asked is already answered and that in opinion threads, my opinion has already been voiced. *Shrug*
And @CrevsDaak and I are still working on our mod together. Hopefully it'll be done one of these years.
I'm bad at following rules, so rather than use the provided template I'm just going to ramble. I'm such a rebel.
I started out on the gamefaqs forum long, long ago (11 years ago, I think? I guess I was 17.) I was an awkward homeschooled kid, escapist extraordinaire, shy and struggling with depression, and that community and Baldur's Gate (which I'd been playing obsessively since it came out) were a huge part of my young adulthood. I have fond memories of Alaundo's Alehouse, Tales of Yore, and the various characters I met there. Hurk, AKA @Dragonspear (if I'm not mistaken), @Latronis_Prime, and maybe others who have made their way over here.
When I came here and found the Alehouse still going after all these years, it was pretty surreal.
I hung out for a while, opened up a fine establishment of my own on the roleplaying board, and met some more awesome people before abruptly disappearing. I'd probably embarrass myself trying to name them all because I've been gone too long, so in the interest of not being a forgetful jerk I'll refrain. But I missed you guys. I love this community that I've been part of in one way or another for over a decade. I've changed so much, experienced so much, and it still feels like home. *sniff sniff*. I LOVE YOU GUYS!
@bengoshi almost brought me to tears with his feature request a couple days ago.
Tears of Dragon(spear)... Are they something like Tears of Bhaal?
Are they a badge?! They should be a badge.
When I came back from my hiatus, aka my daughters birth, I was browsing though my profile and I thought 'Holy S^$t. I've got Tears of Bhaal!?!' But alas. . . it's just the anniversary badges trying to move up the social order.

I was firstly crowded out of BioWare Social - when it became BW Social, because it felt like - or indeed, it was, I think - a closed out circuit.
Now I am here because some gog.com fora members shall be mobbed for a lot of reasons, including but not limited to gaming immersion solidary - which covers everything but yer own particular preference, more or less. +/- unkindness factor.
+ customer experience criticality. Weird that one.
@TStael Although I'm afraid I didn't understand everything you've written, welcome to the forum! Hope that your stay here will be as pleasant as you want.
Well I joined this forum after hearing about the upcoming Siege of Dragonspear which re ignited the waiting fire of love for BG within me as I'm sure it did for lots of you. And I came in hopes of finding a community to talk about Baldur's Gate with! Seeing as it is few and far between that I find friends to talk about the game with -- Come to think of it, my roommate may be the only other person I know IRL who has played through (part of) a Baldur's Gate game (Most people I've mentioned Baldur's Gate to say "Ohh - you mean that Dark Alliance game?").
I just finally finished the series from BG1 to Throne of Bhaal for the first time about a year ago (took me 2 years to complete!). I had tried many years ago my my hard drive fried and died a terrible death. So it was pretty exhilarating. I loved the gradual transition of the characters' strength from some kids walking around with sticks and crappy disintegrating iron swords, to the superhero/godlike levels you reach by ToB. I thought Watcher's Keep was the most intense dungeon I've seen in a game.
And I'm very excited for Siege of Dragonspear. When I played the last scenes of Baldur's Gate, I actually brought 8 characters to the final fight, including Trent (my character), Minsc and Dynaheir, Jaheira and Khalid, Xan, Safana, and Imoen, and I'd switch out making one character stand somewhere while I retrieved the others. and Xan and Saf fell in the fights with Tamoko, so I just imagined they were incapacited in battle but still had done their part for the final push.
I'm very curious to see what this upcoming game will be like! And glad this forum is here to read some others' stories and experiences with Baldur's Gate
I like the idea of so many nerdz and geekz enjoying the same game that I do. There are so many options for your Mainchar, how you assemble your party. How you react role-play wise to NPCs and quests, how you play your motivations, how you challenge yourself. I love the forum for other people's ideas and as a social animal, I enjoy sharing my passion and joy for this silly 2nd Edition D&D game. And that my children is how I became a part of these esteemed forums. Love you peeps
My first post on this forums is dated from June 20, 2012 2:51PM A.C
I stumbled on this forum accidentally, while searching for new mods for BG1 (to no avail). It was still a closed forum back then if my memory serves me right.. I had to write why I want to join the forum ("Because I love Baldur's Gate" was the magic sentence)
Since then I was speculating what is Adventure Y, intercepting some Trent drunken tweets and stuff, still waiting for it!!
Gee, it's been a while, I honestly do not fully well remember. It must have been right around the corner of the Enhanced Edition's first announcement - I may not have found about the forum immediately but when I did, I joined up. The reason I joined was actually because I used to be a mid-to-old BioWare Forums poster, back then using nickname "dark-lauron", think I joined that place back in 2007, and they moved sites at around 2009ish I believe? Was pretty active back there, but didn't like the new place too much, so I was "homeless" for a couple of years. This place was pretty fun and I just decided to resume my journey!
Unfortunately my story was a bit short over here, as I simply lost interest entirely in 'internet activity', and thus became but a ghost of my former self, so to speak - I visited these forums now and then, but never actively posted, that is, up until a week ago, when I went out of "lurk mode".
Honestly, this place has one of the nicest communities on the internet, and especially of gaming. I don't regret ever joining and I never will. Whether I'll be as active as I was back in my relative youth, I cannot say, as trying to be a responsible adult is difficult and time consuming.
When I can spin a tale or two of my adventures, then I will do so without hesitation, on this you can fully count on.
I joined forum at the beginning, the real funny thing was that back there i was thinking about how cool Baldur's Gate is and when travelling by car just look for some informations in the web about BG. I found the website with the timer and i was really excited. It was really strange, it was like a it was made just for me. Later i find the forum, i am not good at english , so i was not posting here much, but i liked to read here all the thoughts and wishes about upcoming game and it is like this still now. 3 years have passed and we are waiting for another BG game, that is super awesome. i have some critics about Beamdog, but generally am really happy about their work. Still hoping for BG3
ps: Baldur's Gate is thy only computer game i play, now also started pillars of eternity
I just found the off-topic section. Haven't really read anything in here before. I guess most ppl don't know me enough yet to make this post very interresting to read, but anyways, here's my contribution.
_Why did you join the forum?_ I had lurked for a year or so. After playing BGEE for a while I got immersed into the saga again and got slightly obsessed, thinking about the game for hours a day and couldn't really work without getting my rising addiction nurtured even when at work. So I finally registered to become part of one of the greatest communities I had encountered for a game, the other being the old DII.net forums and another private forum I used to participate in called the nerdslounge. When the latter forum finally went down after being active for ~10 years, I lost a lot of 'friends' and a huge portion of my online profile died with it. They were my friends even if I had never met them. Maybe I'll meet new ones here.
_What did you do when you first joined?_ I have no idea. I prolly dived straight into discussion about min/maxing or the best equipment for a thief or whatever. I have a problem with keeping my opinions to myself and often talk straight out without reflecting first, hehe.. I remember I got into a heated discussion with @ram021 fairly quickly after I joined. Don't remember what it was about and don't intend to bring that up again either, but I learned that this was not the kinda forum where flaming was standard, so I apologized to the community and have since then (tried to) calm my emotions.
_What, if any, were the turning points of your forum story?_ When I realized what an awesome place this was, that ppl were so friendly and eager to help. I wanted to contribute and help others so I started to participate in threads where I could add my opinion, like regarding when to dual class, what to equip, yada yada. I stay out of questions regarding the engine, background calculations etc. It's better left to immensly powerful beings such as @elminster and @bengoshi, both of whom I hold alot of respect for.
I've got a few likes ofc, but I have to admit that everytime someone presses the insightful or agree buttons, my heart races a little and I feel so damn good.
_What is your favorite thing about being a member of the forum?_ Every single question gets answered. Every. Single. One. The collective knowledge in this place is immense!
_What other members were important to your forum story?_ The one that stands out to me is @bengoshi. Ever polite, ever knowledgeble, ever graceful. He's in every aspect what I strive to be. Yeah, I may sound like a fan-boi here, but that's one helluva nice guy. Other than that, all the best forum personalities has been mentioned many times prior in this thread, ppl who are funny (and a bit crazy, like @anduin, hehe). I would like to mentioned @BelgarathMTH as well. He posted very honestly and openly in a thread of mine and his backstory touched my heart. If I could send e-hugs, he would get one, hehe After reading through all the pages of the "why do women play BG"-thread I guess I'm walking into a minefield here, but would still like to mention that I much enjoy the many women posting here. I like the equality in this place and that so many gamers, no matter the gender, all come together in a great way. I'm openly feminist (sometimes even more so than my girlfriend) and hates sexism in games and gaming communities. I have seen little of that here! So kudos to all women here, none mentioned, none forgotten.
_What was your best experience on the forums?_ I posted "never used a main class" once. Weird title, the english is sub-par, but some of the responses in there were very interresting to read. Also my "real life stats and class"-thread gave me alot of interresting replies to read. I spend too much time thinking about what I would do if I was actually living a life in FR, so I like to ponder and contemplate such topics and hear what others are thinking. It's kinda like a "am I the only nutty one here or are there more like me?"-thing.
_What do you think now, looking back on your forum history? _ I regret I didn't sign up earlier and that I lurked for so long. When I read about your times here, how you made friends etc, I get slightly envious of that. When my other forum died, as said above, I lost alot of friends whom I miss and I would want to replace them with new ones [insert sad puppy eyes here].

And these games. These games are the $#!+.
You would be correct, on Gamefaqs, I was indeed known as hurricaneagle, aka hurk.
@Quartz well met friend. You always were one of my favorite forumites. You can at least hang out in the alehouse from time to time if you'd like.
When I came back from my hiatus, aka my daughters birth, I was browsing though my profile and I thought 'Holy S^$t. I've got Tears of Bhaal!?!' But alas. . . it's just the anniversary badges trying to move up the social order.
I remember @Bhaaldog got a special Tear of Bhaal badge one day. And now look what has happened to her...
I'm not even sure what grants a Tear but misery seems to follow them. . .

A character like him just couldn't fall against Sarevok, no chance!

While there're grammar "purists" here, to have an opinion voiced or a question asked is better than silence.
1. "We find other things to nit pick too, like if someone is loyal to ferrets or not"
2. "Give a like if you're loyal to ferrets"
3. "Give a like no matter whether you're loyal to ferrets or not"
