Where did I leave my armor? Half damaged armor is better than being skewered by every disgusting creature in the place.
"You could wear some orc armour until we find something better," suggests Alora. "It might be a bit smelly but probably not as smelly as Neera is right now." (Tee hee)
The orcs are wearing leather armor… and, it's filthy. As in "slept in, ridden in, eaten in and other things" filthy. Considering the only water you've seen in the place thus far, you're not sure if you blame them.
When everyone is ready Alora will head west. She is going to scout 40' out in front of the party using her infravision to see in the hope that the next lot of enemies won't be alerted by our torches.
Okay… Alora heads west. After 30', you come to a crossroads (literally). From here you can head south, north or continue west. to the south is an empty cavern about 15' wide north-south by about 40' east-west. It is empty and rather uninteresting, being merely of the same black slate that makes up most of the complex. To the west, you can see the corridor sloping downwards as far as you can see. To the north, the corridor runs 30' before turning west.
Okay. North and west it is! After 20' Alora comes to a door in the northern wall door in the northern wall of the corridor. It is stained a deep black to almost, but not quite match the walls, and you're not sure if it is the passage of time that has worn the shine from the wood, or if it was always meant to be that matte black. But it does stand out, subtly against the stone walls, the hammered iron of the handle reinforcing that black on black theme.
The hallway continues to the west beyond the door.
Alora will wait for the party to catch up then check for traps and try to unlock the door if it is locked. Once we are in battle formation (guys with armour to the front) she will open the door.
The door opens on a winding stone corridor approximately 40' long. It's not straight but meanders back and forth, finally coming out on a stone cavern that is irregular in shape, 40' across at its widest point north-south, and 60's across east-west. It's not level, but has been cut into tiers filled with seats carved from the very rock. It's a coliseum, if the seats went all the way around, and it''s more oval-ish than round. But you are not alone here. A group of five troglodytes sees you and leaps to their feet, casting javelins in your direction…
(tell me what you do, and we'll go on from there.)
Neera does what she does best. Hides behind the fighter types. I think I'm out of spells for the day so I'll just stand in the back and thwack people with my staff and crush heads with my stone arm if any come close.
Realizing they need to close with the spear throwers as quickly as possible Ajantis follows the big ranger's lead, doing his best to match the intimidating shouts of the angry warrior in hopes of frightening the enemy.
The Troglodyte's javelins soar high. One pierces Misnc through the meat of the thigh for 8 damage, turning his charge into a stumbling collapse. Jaheira is hit through an arm for 5 and nearly passes out from the pain (Jaheira is at 5 hp.) Ajantis takes 6. And Neera takes 6, even cowering as she is behind the warriors. Oops presses up against her warmly, trying to comfort her. He senses the pain she is feeling.
Arkanis clips one of the Trogs for 7 with his throwing Axe, but it stands firm. Ajantis is next to arrive and kills it with a chop from his sword.
"Helm, aid this humble servant. I ask only to preserve the lives of my allies, be it at the expense of my own. It is my duty to protect them. Let me not fail." Ajantis murmurs the prayer while biting back the pain of his latest wound. Thankful for the comforting weight of shield and sword he continues to pray to Helm while swinging again at the enemy.
Realizing that Minsc is going berserk, Aerie whispered a prayer to Baevarn and let the ranger run. Injured he may be, she feared whether or not she could get close enough to heal him without being speared by a stray javelin, and it would kill her inside if one of her heals were wasted. No, she had no choice but to trust in her gods and her protector.
But even with Minsc gone as an option, she still had a choice before her. Neera, Jaheira, and Ajantis had all been struck.
OOC: Is Jaheira still in bear form? If so, I'm thinking of giving Jaheira the heals. Unless Neera's passed out, then she'll heal Neera. Not sure how close I am to Ajantis, if he's already engaged in melee...
No, Jaheira is not in Bear form any longer, and Neera's stone hand wore off a while ago. (and the Super B.O., thankfully). They each have one other javelin, and a stone-headed club hanging off their belts…
Jaheira gets close enough to whack the largest troglodyte in the head with her club. She scores a direct hit on the center of its forehead, but even with her heaviest blow, and it is staggered, but not dead. (20 to hit, 12 damage (2x normal damage, even!))
Next round is simultaneous initiative. You may take damage, but you also get to strike.
The largest Troglodyte strikes back at Jaheira for 7 damage. This will knock her out at the end of the round, but she still gets to attack. Another Troglodyte stabs Ajantis with a javelin for 7, while the other two miss their strikes.
Anomen misses the Trog he aims at, so does Arkanis. Jaheira, injured, strikes out, slips, stumbles, and nearly falls. Minsc struggles forward, but the javelin still jammed in his leg muscles (thigh, actually) sends him flat on his face once more. Ajantis turns and strikes down the largest Troglodyte with another blow, killing it, then falls flat on his face.
Alora runs in and jams her sword into the nearest Troglodyte, sinking the blade in up to the hilt in its thigh. It sticks there. Party wins initiative.
Alora is weaponless and draws her sling (I assume) as she retreats. Anomen takes out another Troglodyte. his blade slicing the reptilian across the throat. Arkanis misses again. Minsc, screaming something unintelligible, drags himself across the floor on one hand and with his sword, and swings out angrily at the uninjured Trog and literally chops it in twain with one angry swing of his sword.
There is only one Troglodyte left And he stabs at Minsc for 6. Minsc roars in rage, but loses the battle for consciousness. Next round, the party wins initiative and Anomen strikes it down.
End of combat: Minsc is at -4 (Rage and wounds). Jaheira is at 0. Ajantis is at -1, Neera is at 2 hp. Everyone else has taken no damage. (Thankfully!)
Everyone gets 47 exp each. You find one scroll rolled up in the Troglodyte leader (or so you assume the really big one was) belt. It is a scroll of Sleep.

Arkanis use throwing axes to counter the javelin rain. "What would you like with that sticks? Taste steel!"
OOC: Arkanis with a hole in his gut: *drinks ale, it flow out from his stomach* "At least it take care with me wunds."

Still waiting on Jaheira @reemilfam.
Despair not! I shall inspire you by charging BLINDLY ON.
OOC Yes he's going berserk
Jaheira follows Minsc, as she prefers melee range to being picked apart by thrown spikes.
But even with Minsc gone as an option, she still had a choice before her. Neera, Jaheira, and Ajantis had all been struck.

She will also take her short sword back from the troglodyte's thigh.
Arkanis collect his throwing axes. "I think we'll need rest again. Otherwise, thank you all, it was a nice work from everyone."
