For many reasons Drizzt is the most important hero of the Realms for me. I would never kill him, and I never thought it was even possible before I started reading BG-related forums ) So, my answer is no, and I'm never even going to try that in any of my walkthroughs.
Instead of killing Drizzt, do something more challenging, kill Elminster....takes forever though...he's got about 1800 hp and can only be hit on a crit, and you need the +2 throwing axe and boots of speed (and a fighter-type preferred for extra attack). Worth about 26000 xp, if you're up for the challenge.
(Both items are acquired almost at the end of the game, so it requires avoiding him until you've acquired them)
As soon as I meet Drizzt, I will shake his hand and thank him for all the good charity work he has done and then when his back is turned I'll shoot it and take his stuff.
This is actually the strategy I usually use. I tell Drizzt that I'm going to help with the gnolls and then when he goes to fight them I kill him with ranged attacks.
It was just too rare of an opportunity for Dorn to meet a good Drow, chat with him a bit, and then . . . kill him. Eldoth is most pleased, as it just happens to be that he is already proficient in scimitars and can wear chain mail.
Not only did I kill Drizzt to get a bunch of XP and epic weapons of mass destruction, but I also found a use for Rasaad, finally. He would run around in a circle, evading attacks thanks to his increased movement speed, while the rest of the team showered Drizzt with arrows and whatnot.
I keep seeing this Drizzt threads and people saying that you need to roll 20s to hit him. That just is not true. You can very easily make a character that can hit him on a 8 or less with surprise attacks.
I won't kill Drizzt as he is one of my favorite characters in fantasy books from my youth. I could see someone playing a neutral or evil alignment possible killing him though. If you are a good aligned group it doesn't seem to make much sense.
I just love Thief/Rogues in all rpgs , i cant play another class , so im going to help Drizzt , shake his hand and thank him for all the good charity work he has done , and when he turn around im gonna rob him blind.

you can realy kill elminster!!!!???? i got to try this
How on earth do you even get to kill Elminster before he vanishes?
Anyway, I'd like to kill Drizzt, but he's nearly impossible to kill now that the pathing exploit has been fixed. And I do not think he can be robbed either.

I killed Elminster once by summoning a bunch of gnolls in between him and my party and staying behind them where he couldn't get to me. For some reason he never changed hostile and just kept trying to talk to my party, except he couldn't get close enough to actually do that because the gnolls were in the way. I chipped away at him with ranged attacks and he eventually died. It took a while, but it eventually worked.
Drows isn't even a word...Drow is both singular and plural.
I've tried the summon screen trapping on Mary Sue, but since hitting him requires 20's my party ran out of ranged ammo, and he heals to full if you leave the area. The throwing axe +2 is the only infinite use ranged weapon in BG1. Takes longer yes, since you have less attacks total for those crits to happen, but at least you never run out (and on the plus side, he isn't wearing a helm so it he takes the extra damage which helps immensely...still takes forever though)
I'm not sure what I originally voted, but in all of my current games I have just stolen his two swords. Safana, my Stalker, my Kensai, and Rasaad all happen to love Twinkle and Icingdeath at level 1. EDIT: Ah, so that's what I voted. HOW APPROPRIATE!
@majinsnake You can definitely rob him of his swords, proven in two playthroughs. You need a pickpocket of around 80 to do so consistently, I did it on my second try at 60 pickpocket with Safana. However, you cannot rob his armor (that involves actually slaying him). EDIT: To do this REALLY early, get a potion of master thievery from the guy who pickpockets you at the carnival (kill him quick before he escapes, he has a potion). Then have Imoen/Safana/CHARNAME/whatever thief you are using chug it in front of Drizzt, and take them right out of his hands. I recommend saving before attempting, as if you fail he will chunk you.
Killed him on my second character, evil fighter/thief solo.He has superb chainmail but i cant use his good alligment scimitar. btw fighter/thief is too powerfull..

(Always depends on my character...)

Perhaps i should bug report that?
@Myth I heard you couldn't rob him either in this new game version. Yet...I haven't tested.
