@subtledoctor: You're a modding wizard around here and you've helped me more than once before. Do you have any idea what problem I've been having with BWS?
I moved my game per @BillyYank's instruction after reinstallation and started up BWS again for BG2. I ended up with a familiar error message in which one mod (usually a small one) fails and then BWS stalls indefinitely.
BWS says it skipped the component, but then nothing happens. BWS doesn't keep going when it hits this problem.
I also tried BWF, even though I'd like to try out the many mods from BWS, but BWF also failed, and I'm not sure why:
1. First, I deleted everything in my BG2 directory, which I copied into C/Games/BG2EE from my Steam folder. 2. Then I copied back my clean install from my Steam folder. Empty override folder and no files from any mods. 3. I unzipped both SCSv30 and BWF into my BG2 directory. 4. I ran the SCS file, but quit before installing anything with WeiDu. 5. I ran BWF (the readme said to run it after unzipping mods, but before installing them). 6. I ran SCS again, but it failed. My debug file is attached. There are lots of lines referencing mods from BWS, but I never actually managed to install anything with BWS. Also, I deleted all traces of those mods from my BG2 directory--in fact, I deleted every file and folder that was there before copying over the clean, unmodded files from my Steam folder.
Argh, my head hurts. I want to use EET and BWS. Do I install EET or BWS first? EET says install all mods on BGee, then initialise EET, then install mods on BG2ee, then finalise EET. BWS promises to install all sorts of mods on my behalf, indicating that at least the first step of EET is void.
@subtledoctor: I'll give BWS another shot with some more mods unchecked. It's not just Chloe; it also failed when I disabled the Chloe mod and tried to run BWS again (another mod caused BWS to stall as well). Maybe it'll work if I just pare down the mod list.
But I'm not quite sure I understand the part about BWF. I downloaded BWF from https://github.com/BiGWorldProject/BiG-World-Fixpack/archive/master.zip and I see a batch file, which the readme says to use, and an .exe only labeled "weidu," instead of "setup-BWF" or a normal WeiDu application setup name. Running the weidu.exe just gives a list of commands.
So it looks like BWF works using a batch file, not a normal WeiDu installer. Maybe @agb1 could tell us how it works. Currently, when I run the batch file, it says it patched everything okay, but SCS still fails to install the "Initialize" component, as I mentioned in my previous post.
@subtledoctor: I know your SCS hotfix worked fine; I was using it for a long time. It's the only reason I was able to install SR/IR, and the only reason I was no longer using a "transplanted" installation (override folder and dialog.tlk file) copied from another player, which you said was dangerous to have floating around the community. But I don't have the hotfix on hand anymore; I lost it when I moved to a new computer. Would you consider re-posting the hotfix in case I can't figure out how to get BWS to work?
Otherwise I won't be able to get SCS without transplanting my install again, which in my experience prevents me from installing any other WeiDu mods like SR and IR.
@rrchristensen How about starting with first post instructions, follow step by step and note any part which is not clear?
@semiticgod Which .bat file did you run? "_ApplyPatches.bat"?
How about supposing I'm not an idiot and have tried to do my homework but am nevertheless confused by the first post with tons of links to subfora and other fora as well as the unclear distinction between BWS and BWP, not to mention the eleven pages of commentary ? I see no clear answer anywhere to my original question, which is why I asked.
Bear in mind that respectful behavior is indeed required per the Site Rules.
I do think it's understandable that people have trouble, even if they've read the guide at the beginning. It's not that the guide itself is particularly confusing, but this is a complicated process (though it's definitely far simpler than trying install all these mods individually) and it makes sense for people to have trouble with the process, or get BWS, BWP, and BWF mixed up. That's what this thread is for.
A lot of people are new to modding the IE games--maybe even new to computers in general. I didn't even know what WeiDu was for years.
Multiple people have asked for help. After 11 months, it shouldn't be surprising anymore.
@rrchristensen Calm down, it wasn't a "RTFM!" response. I wanted to read 1st time BWS user feedback, not bash you. If you question was "I want to use EET and BWS. Do I install EET or BWS first?" my response would be "BWS is a mod installation tool which allows you to install EET and all compatible mods". Now, first page have only 5 links and clear starting point called "Installation" - can you go thought them and write unclear/confusing parts?
The installation stalled once again, even when I un-checked even more mods, but I found that I could keep BWS going by simply typing in "c" (or most any letter) and clicking "Send entered text." Even though BWS didn't ask me to type anything in, like it did for other problems, it seems that sending a letter is enough to keep the installation going if it stalls after a mod fails.
After that, BWS asked me if I wanted to retry installing the mod that failed installing. I told BWS to remove the failed mod from the installation and BWS proceeded to completion. I only missed a few mods, and now the game is so heavily modded that it takes 60 seconds just to load Near Infinity.
TL;DR, if BWS stalls when one mod fails to install properly, you can type any letter and hit "Send entered text" to get BWS to keep going.
@semiticgod I had a similar issue to yours using BWS. It would just stall after trying to install certain mods. I found that by using the "open debug" button it shows the option to continue or skip the mod In question.
It would be nice if that text was displayed in the main menu. I'm glad you got your setup working.
Not sure why but Dark Side of the Sword Coast keeps failing to install. It says it's not able to extract "dsotscv101b.zip.", so I manually extracted it in my BGEE folder. But that doesn't work, during the actual installation it says "mod not found."
Also, I think there is a specific EE version of the mod which is not automatically downloaded but it is required. It shows up after testing present mods, and it's called "dsotscBGEE.rar."
Yeah DSOTSC and NTOTSC, sadrah mod and others failed for my BWS EET Set up along with components for SCS throughout BG1. Attached the Debug file and not sure if something incompatible with other mods but I had a lot of other mods...dumb question but if I download the EE version of DSOTSC or other mods like sandrah would it screw up my modded game
Anyone had the problem where Installing all Megamods have your divine spellcasters unable to memorize divine spells? And skill points just disappear when adding them on level up?
while my clean installation with only BG1EE + PPE shows:
// Log of Currently Installed WeiDU Mods

any chances that you used old archive which is present inside "BiG World Downloads" and wasn't updated/downloaded from internet?
It did install PPE like a patch or something by swit but not the actual mod ~PPE/PPE.TP2~ #0 #0 // PPE: beta 0.1 was installed, it was not the full mod at all. I didn't see a zip for that in the downloads folder.
The folder did have the Portraits-Portraits-Everywhere-master which in the zip is a folder "Portraits-Portraits-Everywhere-master" inside which is the correct setup-PPE.exe and ppe folder.
It did install PPE like a patch or something by swit
What exactly do you mean? All swit/k4thos EET-related patches for mods are not needed when you installing EET through BWS (they are all included inside BWFixback )
check the weidu.log I posted. says this ~PPE/PPE.TP2~, I also posted a picture of the folders, the Portraits-Portraits-Everywhere-master had the correct stuff, the ppe folder had almost nothing perhaps a patch by swit. My mod has setup-ppe.tp2 as the installer not ppe.tp2.
You definitely have old version of ppe.tp2 inside BGIIEE\data\00783\PPE
old, from K4thos (swit) old EET patches: PPE\ppe.tp2 new, from github repo: PPE\setup-ppe.tp2
take look at weidu version 239 changes:
* TP2 precedence order is now MyMod/MyMod.tp2, MyMod/Setup-MyMod.tp2, MyMod.tp2, Setup-MyMod.tp2.
so weidu will prefer ModName\ModName.tp2 instead of ModName\setup-ModName.tp2, when you run setup-ppe.exe, it run code from PPE\ppe.tp2, not from PPE\setup-ppe.tp2
you should restore clean backup of BG2EE and then preform new BWS install also check if somehow you have "PPE" folder inside BWS\OverwriteFiles\BG2EE
P.S. You should rename PPE\setup-ppe.tp2 into PPE\ppe.tp2 and update Github repository to save similar trouble for other people who might have old PPE\ppe.tp2 from K4thos (swit) old EET patches.
Thanks @Kaliesto, yeah my set up must have messed up as did it from program files but 90% of my BWS set up looks like went fine so will save those mods for my next playthrough so gives me some new content to play with Dumb question but if I download another small mod now like NPC (i.e Tsujatha) onto the BWS modded set up could it cause "major issues"?
@brunardo there is always a chance with any mod you install that it could break something, the best thing to do is start over with a new game. Always research want you want to add before installing, so that you'll never have to start over again.
Also for future reference: Install your game in the root of the Drive or anywhere else, and not in Programs Folder or else you'll get interference.

Well I saw your follow-up comment on G3, but yeah don't install anything in program folder, it will never work properly ever.
It didn't extract correctly:
and during the install it wouldn't let me select the top level of PPE, I had to check individual components then it worked. That was odd.

please post you \BiG World Setup\Config\Global\PPE.ini and check BiG World Downloads\Portraits-Portraits-Everywhere-master.zip content
The folder did have the Portraits-Portraits-Everywhere-master which in the zip is a folder "Portraits-Portraits-Everywhere-master" inside which is the correct setup-PPE.exe and ppe folder.
I attached the ppe.ini as ppe.log
You PPE.ini is correct but:
says this ~PPE/PPE.TP2~, I also posted a picture of the folders, the Portraits-Portraits-Everywhere-master had the correct stuff, the ppe folder had almost nothing perhaps a patch by swit. My mod has setup-ppe.tp2 as the installer not ppe.tp2.
ppe.tp2 says this:
BACKUP ~PPE/backup~
AUTHOR ~K4thos (swit)~
VERSION ~beta 0.1~
BEGIN ~PPE~
//NO_LOG_RECORD
INCLUDE ~PPE/drow.tph~
You definitely have old version of ppe.tp2 inside BGIIEE\data\00783\PPE
old, from K4thos (swit) old EET patches: PPE\ppe.tp2
new, from github repo: PPE\setup-ppe.tp2
take look at weidu version 239 changes:
MyMod/MyMod.tp2, MyMod/Setup-MyMod.tp2,
MyMod.tp2, Setup-MyMod.tp2.
so weidu will prefer ModName\ModName.tp2 instead of ModName\setup-ModName.tp2, when you run setup-ppe.exe, it run code from PPE\ppe.tp2, not from PPE\setup-ppe.tp2
you should restore clean backup of BG2EE and then preform new BWS install
also check if somehow you have "PPE" folder inside BWS\OverwriteFiles\BG2EE
P.S. You should rename PPE\setup-ppe.tp2 into PPE\ppe.tp2 and update Github repository to save similar trouble for other people who might have old PPE\ppe.tp2 from K4thos (swit) old EET patches.
Dumb question but if I download another small mod now like NPC (i.e Tsujatha) onto the BWS modded set up could it cause "major issues"?
Also for future reference:
Install your game in the root of the Drive or anywhere else, and not in Programs Folder or else you'll get interference.
Any ideas?
