I'm sorry to interrupt, just wanted to say how much I enjoy reading your adventure. I've been your fan since Tomb of Horrors and I hope this won't be the last one .
Thanks, Fredjo! Seems like we'll have more chances, too, as BG:EE isn't quite ready for human consumption. Seems that Boo has made fodder of the code, messing it up for everybody...
"This is no time for sleep," Minsc told Kivan. "Evil is afoot!" The small Kivan had an issue with priorities, playing too much with bow and arrow, and focusing too little on Sword and Hamster.
"You assume everything is evil. How do you even know that the presence in this house is evil? Maybe it's just misunderstood. Maybe something terrible happened to the spirit in life and it just wants to be laid to rest in peace."
"Or maybe she was once a fair maiden, with ample bosoms and a butt that wouldn't quit, heeheehee..."
"You speak in circles, like hamster tracks in sand! So it is with evil, even the little bits that Boo leaves from his behind." This wisdom on evil would truly help Kivan understand, so Minsc was happy to share it.
Glad to have helped Kivan, Minsc looked about the room for signs of immediate evil. It happened to be afoot, but was not always making itself obvious. Especially now that Minsc was here, for evil tended to find hinding places when Minsc was at (very) large! Bootheels were raring to go and would meet evil with great speedy speed!
Edwin sighs to himself, and brushes a bit of lint from his sleeve. He looks to Minsc and Kivan.
"If the two of you are quit done with this stimulating and philosophical conversation, I wonder if one of you might lead us on further. I for one am ready to quit this molding shack as quickly as possible."
"Why you are here one can only guess, perhaps simply to amuse us. The others of us are here to investigate the claimed haunting of this building. I am here as well for reasons of my own that are none of your concern."
"I know why you are here Edwin. The same reason I am here. The promise of busty wenches to warm my bed after we rid the house of this spirit! And notice how I pluralized wenches, heh heh heh."
DM: Edwin is just naturally skilled at using his staff.
Okay, north. There are two doors here, one at 10' from the hallway opening, and the other at 25' from the hallway opening. After that the hallway opens out into a larger area at the very back (north) side of the house.
Alora checks for traps and finds none. The door is not locked. This room is a large bedroom, now decaying and dirty. Damp mold covers portions of the walls and ceiling and rubbish is strewn liberally around the floor. In the center of the room is a mattress which has been badly torn and from which stuffing protrudes. Under the window is a wooden chest, closed, but with the timbers splitting from neglect.
"Boo could use this," Minsc loudly stated, effortlessly shoving past Edwin and moving toward the great treasure in the room. One did not often find mattresses, and Boo was stuck making bedding from old undergarments.
Alora fiddles with the chest for a bit, then opens the top. Inside are a bunch of clothes, all moldy and ragged, and a stash of documents, also moldy and stained. "Here ya go, Edwin!" Alora says with a smile, passing them to him.
"Boo is not sleeping. He is gathering, aren't you, Boo?" How Kivan made it through the day was beyond Minsc, but he never gave up on others. Perhaps he would turn his thinking, the way he had done with Edwin. That would be heroical.
Most of the documents seem to be related to the purchase of land and the building of the house, from what he can determine. There is also a sheet of writing which is pure gibberish to him. It looks like a scroll, but makes no sense.
Edwin will toss all but the sheet of gibberish back into the chest. The sheet he will fold and slip into a pocket of his robe. He will then look to the other party members.
"Enough of your fooling about, let us move on to the next room."
Alora is here! She thinks if Edwin can's make sense of the scroll it probably isn't much use. Because Edwin is as clever as Elminster. Probably cleverer.

And as to Edwin's staff...not touching that one metaphorically and literally.
"Well done my dear, now if you would kindly check that chest."
