I only found about BG I EE last night. I couldn't believe my eyes and promptly pre-ordered it. I can wait two months for a game like this. I must have played through the first two games and expansion packs at least three times. Definitely the best games I've ever played. I played BGTutu, but was frustrated at the number of game-crashing bugs. I'm so excited about EE!

Great! You are lucky not to have felt the delay :P
It pains me to see yet another game delayed. Developers need to learn to set their release dates further out to compensate for any unforeseen variables that end up causing a delay from the time frame they originally had in mind. That way you don't get a delay announcement less than a week before release.
Rather an inconvenience, but if the developers feel this is necessary then i'm behind them since I would prefer the BGEE to launch with as little, shall we say "shortcuts" as possible, which would feel the game being rushed therefore bringing the chance of certain features being skipped or undeveloped. Hats off to the developers with their impressive progress so far, ready to return to Baldur's Gate :O).
i am happy a delay is always good as it make it more belivable that you guys infact trying your best not like stinking blissard that dont even have the balls to set a date and even wen they put it out its full of lets say horreble bugs i want a good game and if i have to wait i much rather do that then have a unfiniched or lets say bad game
I played Baldur's Gate for the first time 3 years ago only... Played the demo... bought the 4 in 1 version... became instant classic and one of my most favorite RPGs ever.
How about releasing a character generator in the near future? Then I can spend the next 2 months rolling to get my desired 93 cumulative stat points to distribute to my character.
I could see releasing a character generator post-ship, but isn't it kind of strange to take time away from a game that's been delayed due to lack of development time to create a separate application that won't even be relevant until the game itself?

The point in the request is: it shouln't take that much time/ressources to do it. But i may be wrong, i know that. It's up to @TrentOster to find out, but i think it should be considered as a request from the community. If this is a matter of a few days, i think it could be worth.
It would take time and resources from the project. It would have to use a part of the UI code to maintain visual identity, the parts of the code that know how to load the externalized tables, the dice rolling code, it would also have to contain part of the save routines responsible for exporting the character into a file.
The UI would have to be recoded to just contain the generator screens. If they released a plain character generator there would be people complaing.
And that's considering they do not have to add the new sound playing code to add the title music, because you may be sure people would complain if it was not present.
So no, it's not something quick and easy to do do. If the base code was fully modular, maybe it would be possible, but I doubt that's the case.
With my comment about a character generator, I was mostly joking. The comment was meant to strike a chord with the many individuals who, I imagine, are insane enough to spend two months merely attempting to get the desired amount of skill points for their character (you'd be quite unlucky if it took two months!). I would think that most of us on this forum and who have pre-ordered the game will spend a ridiculous amount of time, if necessary, to make their ideal character. I realize now that my intent was not well presented.
I say it was mostly in jest because sometimes one presents an idea that seems unreasonable considering the circumstances, but in the end, the idea turns out to be plausible. I meant no disrespect to the process through which the developers are going, and in the end, I will accept and be content with everything they do between now and ship.
Are you being serious? Retail space COSTS a lot of money, if they were going to do that they would definitely have to jack up the price..not to mention all the kick backs and palm greasing that needs to be done to secure retail space to start with.
And it would not assist in solving the fundamental issue of getting the enhanced game out as soon as possible. We do not need the team to be sidetracked when there are other matters to be getting on with.
@iankirts Unfortunately, a retail store edition would cost more money than it would bring in. To make it worthwhile they would have to increase the price, which in turn would reduce sales. It's sadly a no-win situation.
We might have more luck after BG2:EE comes out, perhaps with a complete limited edition set. But even that's not guaranteed.
I'd like a boxed game. It'd be perfect to have box with great game "Baldur's Gate" on my shelf, few gigabytes on my hard drive would not have the same effect. But the important thing is to have the game! No matter what!

it will not, think of all the new customers The Baldur's Gate Team would have and not to mention it would help people that don't have intent access!!.
