Yeah, and i won't even be sorry.
I will troll BG and make it into strawberry panic!
I think Salieri said everything that need to be said though.
Why does every game now days have to have a gay romance? I remember Dragon Age 2 where 90% of the characters were bisexual. Poor writing anyone? It irked me so much it affected my enjoyment of the game.
They all have one thing in common - they are scripted to only activate when the PC responds positively to a *very* subtle line in an initial dialogue screen. The trigger line usually goes something like "I...am beginning to...care for you." The player then has an option for something along the lines of "errrmm, I care for you, too...as my friend." If this line is selected, the PC will never hear another peep about a gay romance in his or her game.
Because of the sensitivity with which these kinds of romances are written, I kind of wish the haters would just leave the gay gamers alone. Nobody is going to write an "out and proud" gay gaming character who comes on to you in every dialogue screen. All the gay gaming romances are written in such a way that you have to actively be looking for them before they even begin to activate.
So let's just live and let live, please. And I congratulate the talent and sensitivity of all the game writers who have tried to subtly include minority romantic orientations in their games.
EDIT: oh yes, simply changing the genders of characters doesn't work. A same-sex romantic relationship has a completely different dynamic than a straight one, plus it brings up a myriad of pronoun problems in the writing. I tried once using some gender-bending to experience the romances with males in the NPC Project, and I got kind of tired of being referred to as "my lady", and told about what a "beautiful woman" I was, and asked about girl stuff and whatnot. Two men together romantically or two women together romantically are their own special human relationship dynamic, and it's really hard to get an outsider to understand. Fortunately, I've had the pleasure to experience the work of some very sensitive writers.
For those of you who don't know what bromance is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv7SUncOAAQ
Why are people fine with a world that has almost all of the above but consider gays as the one problem that reeks of human perversion?
It's not that i want gay romances, but this argument of "why...?", doesn't usually end well.
If they put gay romances in, and someone doesn't like them, all they have to do is stay away from them.
My only bride is my BLADE anyway, screw romances :]
