One month from now I plan on finally purchasing a laptop that has a legit GTX 1060 in it, which from all the research I've done on Youtube as far as FPS benchmarks go can handle maintaining 60 frames per second on High/Ultra settings for most any current game at 1080p. Can't wait to have the whole trilogy playable on PC.

@jjstraka34 You should buy a desktop for gaming. Mobile parts do not compare to desktop ones.

Yes, but the fact is I just don't want a desktop I can't move around the house. And the laptop GTX chips have shown in benchmarks that they are managing to provide roughly 90% of the power of the desktop versions (it's a fairly new thing). Pascal chips I think they are called. Beyond that, it's CPU has automatic Turbo boost up to 3.8ghz and 16GB of RAM (and 6GB for the GTX 1060). For roughly $1000 and the mobility of a laptop, that's a bargain.

@jjstraka34 Yes, I hope you will be happy with it.

I finally got a PS4 and got Bloodborne. Fun game, although a bit harder than I expected.

Was going to get Nioh but now I have to decide which platform. Decisions, decisions.

Where are you at with Bloodborne?? It was basically the only reason I bought a PS4, and while I don't regret it, I haven't turned it on in months. It was a true system seller for many.

Haha I'm at the Cleric Beast. I started playing Horizon Zero Dawn and Hob instead. Because I suck.

Bloodborne is pretty great and I hope to get back to it soon. :)

Dashing forward and to the left when the bosses and enemies attack will get you through 75% of the game.

@BelleSorciere Are your platform choices PC and PS4? If you can wait for the Nioh PC version, obviously get any game you can on PC. It is the most powerful, most flexible platform.

But if I get it on the PS4 I can play it on a 65" TV.

Also, what if Nioh's port is bad? Like Nier: Automata was? That's why I got Nier for the PS4 instead of the PC.

What's wrong with the NieR port? I have no issues with it

  • jjstraka34jjstraka34 Member Posts: 9,850
I finally had gaming experience that matched the feeling of kicking the ladder down to the bonfire in the Undead Burg and activating the elevator in the Undead Parish. The first level of Thief 2: The Metal Age. I've owned these games forever but just started getting them modded and running on Windows 10 this weekend. The atmosphere and gameplay is on par with the quality of a series like Dark Souls. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Miyazaki had studied the level design of these games.

    http://www.pcgamer.com/nier-automatas-pc-port-is-playable-but-disappointing/

Also, I misremembered. The television is 60". For comparison, my monitor is 28".

Anyway, I generally make my decision based on two things: Whether I want to play the game on the TV, and whether performance actually suffers on the console. If the answers to those are yes and no respectively, I buy it for the PS4.

I only have like 19 games for my PS4, and several hundred for the PC, so it's clear which platform I favor, even accounting for how recently I got the former.

I have just as many for the PS4, yet I haven't even turned mine on in 4 or 5 months. The only thing I really played on it was Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 (I finished 2 on my laptop). I own some games for both systems. Once I get my new laptop, I doubt I'll ever use it unless there is some real blockbuster PS4 exclusive (I suppose I might get Horizon: Zero Dawn once it's $20). I still want to play The Last of Us and all the Uncharted games. But other than that, yeah....

I have The Last of Us, Uncharted 1-4, Uncharted: Lost Legacy, and Horizon Zero Dawn, and I regret none of these purchases. HZD, Uncharted 4, and The Last of Us look great with HDR.

@BelleSorciere It's not perfect but I wouldn't say it's bad, and Neither does that article. Why do you say it's bad?

The PS4 exclusives are miles ahead of XBox (of course, nothing compares to PC exclusives, but that is neither here nor there). The Uncharted series seems like the closest thing to a decent Indiana Jones movie you can get with modern games.

It seems strange that we still haven't heard anything about From's new project. I know Bandai Namco is doing this Code Vein thing, but the more I see of it, the less interested I am.

@jjstraka34 @BelleSorciere BTW many older PS exclusives like The Last of Us are becoming available on the PSNOW Service

My guess is that's the PS3 version though. And the PS4 version has been sitting on the budget shelf at my local Wal-Mart for a year for $20, I have just never bought it.

Because it is not as good as the console version. Why buy the inferior PC port?
  • BelleSorciereBelleSorciere Member Posts: 2,108
And yeah, I don't know which version of The Last of Us is on PSNow but I'm holding off subscribing until I am ready to play Red Dead Redemption or something else on the service.

I'm happy with the version I bought.

@BelleSorciere In what sense is it not as good? Genuine question I really do not understand. I for one am playing the game at 2560x1600 60 fps which is something no console can do. In my mind it is superior to the console versions if not a perfect PC port.
  • BelleSorciereBelleSorciere Member Posts: 2,108
@FinneousPJ I literally linked you why. The article may not say bad but it does say disappointing and disappointing is generally considered a bad thing.

Also, why not just accept I chose the PS4 version for my own reasons and leave it at that? Why keep asking for justifications?
  • FinneousPJFinneousPJ Member Posts: 6,455
@BelleSorciere Because you said the PC port was bad, and I am interested in learning reasons why. You also said the PC port is inferior to the console version, and here also I am interested in reasons why. I thought the PC version was superior. If I am mistaken, maybe I should get the PS4 version as well.

    Ah, fair enough.

If you're happy with the PC port and it almost certainly has better performance, you're probably fine.

The "disappointing" article didn't explain things as well as I wanted it to. I found a lot more discussion of this when I was researching my purchase than I'm finding now. I probably would have been fine going PC, though.

Yes I have the PC version of Nier and it does have a lot of issues that have been unpatched since release. Its pretty unanimous that the Vanilla PC version of Nier runs worse that the console counterparts. There are resolution and framerate issues etc. If you have a beast of a computer you could brute force your way around it but my PC which is 3 x more expensive than a PS4 runs it worse and that is a ‘disappointing port’.

Compounded by the fact the developers have been releasing DLC rather than patching it. It has been mostly fixed by the fans using FAR mod (Fix Automatica Resolution).

    Here’s a link with known issues https://www.reddit.com/r/nier/comments/600scm/nier_automata_pc_issues_megathread/?st=J93C0YU5&sh=1ae5c608

Biggest one appears to be fullscreen resolution bug that fullscreen actual scales to a lower resolution and affected many players. It’s not happened to you but if you go on the steam forums you’ll see a lot crying about it.

Yes I see. I do have the cutscene lack of smoothness issue at times but other than that I had no problems. Compared to say DS1 I find this a good port lol
