Does the Whispers of Silence cloak (in EE) protect against detection spells when the wearer is invisible? In my experience it only protects stealthed thieves and characters who go invisible with the staff of the magi, while Invisibility as per the potion or one of the invisibility spells gets dispelled even when a character is wearing the cloak.
Thats the good thing when playing Non-Mages as i dont have to spare space for wands.
With regard to Boots, Belts etc.: I either sell most stuff or i use one container and only get there when i need specific items. Whispers of Silence is not really essential in most cases but for this specific encounter it might safe your life - as it did in the mentioned run. In SoD Bag of Holding solves this trouble easily even though you also get a personal chest in the camp.
P.S. Cloak-of-Non-Detection also protects when using Invisibilty Potion - at least for "Detect Invisibility". Just tested it against the Ogre Mages some minutes ago. It does NOT protect against the innate Illusion Dispelling of Lemures - here only stealth works!
The cloak makes you immune to divination spells. I always make sure to take it to the final battle against Sarevok, even tho these days Angelo seems a lot worse in ScS and rarely ever casts it. Back then right when EE came out and I soloed BG1 and 2 SCS insane with my blade he just kept spamming detection spells and the cloak basically gives you the same immunity as SI Illusion.
On that note btw I found that in ToB LoB SCS casters don't seem to cast remove magic when you are improved invis, even tho they could. Haven't tested this enough to know if it is viable in SoA or even without LoB as in my personal opinion LoB messes up caster scripts for SCS.
Oo man. I've been playing with a Totemic druid, and I have to say its great fun, so far one of the easiest runs of this challenge. At level 10 you get some mean spirit animals, my shaman is officially benched. I used the xp loop in mutamins garden, btw, is there a way to ensure the lesser basilisk isn't targeted by the greater one? I had to spend almost half my stf scrolls on my charmed buddy. I finished candlekeep (this time I used the violet potion FeelsGoodMan), no faffing about! I'm at the final level of Durlags now, it took me a while to figure out the chess challenge, my spirits kept on dying almost instantly, and all the ranged attacks burned through my stoneskins. After a while I tried using invis from sandthief ring and charming the king, worked on the first try
Its the first time I got this far on a LoB challenge, and I realized I have xp cap removal installed ~ so no go on official run I guess, but I'm having too much fun with it. I'm not sure if I'm going dual at 14 or 15, and extra spririt animal is nice but that only comes at lvl 16, 15 is only for poison immunity and better elementals I think. Still might be worth it. As far as weapons go, I think I'm going to go for staves, generally I prefer 2H weapons, but I might end up dual wielding scimitars, we shall see.
Xagul in the meanwhile has cracked through the Temple of Bhaal...
Ziatar: Fully buffed he tanked the Half-Dragon quite easily - 1:0!
Neothelid: Xagul tried to tank the beast with Defensive Stance and - hurray - it worked great - 2:0!
Aerial Servants: Rebuffed he also tried to tank these two but failed. Up to 86 damage with 2 APR was too much even with Defensive Stance and Durlags Goblet especially as they nearly hit all the time (THAC0 -6). Xagul did not want to risk anything here (no Potion of Absorbtion) and went invisible - 2:1!
Akanna: Come on! The High Priestress is no challenge at all - 3:1!
Morentherene: On his way out Xagul faced the fearsome Green Dragon to revenge Bavaborass who had died here earlier. Not a fair fight in mind he targeted a Throwing Dagger right into the heart of the Dragon to instakill it (you still have to make a succesful hit roll though!) - 4:1!
In Bridgefort he bought supplies and got the precious Dragon Shield +3. He surrendered to the Crusaders and tanked the Fire Elemental down - time to move on to Coalition Camp once more!
With Item Revisions and Spell Revisions installed, both the Non-Detection spell and Whispers of Silence should protect you from divination spells, even if your invisibility comes from a mage spell rather than Hide in Shadows or the Staff of the Magi. However, True Seeing in SR allows the caster to target invisible critters with weapons and spells, as if they were a lich or a dragon or demon.
@billy_pilgrim: You can distract the Greater Basilisk with other summons. Spirit Animals will be immune to petrification by level 3, and familiars are always immune. A mage can use Protection from Petrification on the Lesser Basilisk, but any other class can use the green scroll on the Lesser Basilisk instead, while keeping the main character out of sight whenever the Greater Basilisk is not petrified.
I always wanted to 1vs1 this guy - who is protecting his Witch Julann in front of the Underground River Caverns - in a straight melee fight without any prebuffing or cheesing. And who would be better suited for this one than a Dwarven Defender? How foolish i was...
Rigah is THE absolute Death Machine once he starts rolling. Or with other words: His damage was so high that Xagul never got the chance to buff up with more than Defensive Stance and Oil of Speed as the rest was only Durlags Goblet over and over again - just to stay alive. Both delivered heavy blows and it looked like Xagul could get the upper hand but then... Defensive Stance expired.
Without it his HP dropped so fast that the next healing was out of reach. With death only one blow away he cowardly retreated and healed up again - with Rigah hurling Throwing Axes in his direction. No, this cannot be!!! Xagul raged and went into close combat again activating another Defensive Stance. He still had to survive several close rounds - dropping to 5 HP once - but with luck on his side Rigah finally went down. *PHEW*
The whole battle "only" soaked 11 charges of Durlags Goblet and - thats for sure - without retreating Rigah would have won easily.
Why is Rigah so dangerous? Here his buffed up stats:
HP: 407 Damage: 44-62 THAC0: -8 APR: 5 AC: -3
You see: This guy deals more damage than Big B himself. Get him into the party and the final battle is a walk in the park!
Okay, time to rest and heal up again! Hephernaan is waiting. And Big B. If we can get to him...
Rigah is the male member of the Rashemen duo that you meet at the entrance to the Underground River Caverns in the Siege of Dragonspear expansion. You can only get a reaction from Rigah & his witch Julann if you have Minsc & Dynaheir in your party. There are a few Steam Achievements associated with them. Depending on how your interactions with the couple go, they can show up for the big battle within the Dragonspear Castle grounds - where they both can be beastly. Rigah wields the Dragonblade +3.
So I managed to kil Sarevok with my Totemic druid! First time I managed BG, on LoB + SCS Solo. But now, I'm having real issues in the first dungeon of SoD already. My summons get overwhelmed, and my druid can't fight really, and lacks any hard hitting aoe spells. Any suggestions? I think this is going to be a recurring problem in SoD as the monsters groups are generally quite large.
@billy_pilgrim that dungeon is a real problem if you want to fight. Invisibility isn't an answer on its own as some of the undead can see through it, so if you want to fight you probably need to use PfU. Of course if you're going to do that you might just avoid fighting the undead anyway and go after Korlasz ...
The SoD starting dungeon can be really troublesome @billy_pilgrim - but there is a cure!
Porios and his Guards: Lure them away from the door, go invisible and sneak through to Porios who is waiting in the room behind. Choose answer 2 and he - and his guards - will surrender! Use Porios key and advance to level 2.
The Undead and Followers of Sarevok: PfU and Invisibility will get you through to Korlasz.
Korlasz: Summon Spirit Wolves and Nymphs (Hold Person & Hold Monsters!) - they will paralyze Korlasz with ease. Throw in Insect Swarm if you like. Bring her down to "injured" and she will surrender. Maybe you have to wait until the paralyzation ends so stop attacking - otherwise you will have to fight all Elite Guards if she dies before the talking triggers.
I wrote this post to tell you that Xagul is facing Big B soon but then - well - something really weird happened.
After scouting Hephernaan and crushing the Crusader Attacks with Detonation Arrows Xagul headed to Dragonspear Castle to start the Siege. Normally i let the waves fight each other for up to 30 minutes to maximize Potion loot - waiting near the edge of the map (but i forgot to make him invisible). After drinking some cup of teas and roaming through the forum - which lasted not longer than 20-25 minutes (?) - i switched back to the game only to see the Death Screen.
There were no Crusader Troops visible and also the log could not tell me why Xagul had died. My only assumption is that one of the Coalition Bosses - maybe Marshal Nederlock - had died during the Siege and this resulted in some kind of auto loss.
Update: No, Nederlocks death wont stop the Siege while the other boss Torsin de Lance is immortal. Still no answer...
Maybe there is a hidden timer??? Can you tell us anything about that @Ardanis?
There're no special loss conditions during the siege. On insane difficulty crusader reinforcements get a cleric or mage, in addition to grunts. Some of them have Detect Invis memorized, which they'll happily use if someone invisible sneaks upon them. I assume you stayed within courtyard, not outside the castle walls? Detection spells have a really long range, so it may not even have been PC who triggered them, but one of coalition mages, and you just suffered collateral AoE damage of sorts. Then crusaders milling around the courtyard (or busy hacking at DeLancie) may have found you.
PS Spawned reinforcements don't drop any potions though, unless some mod makes them to. Only those already present on the battlefield when the siege begins do, to avoid potential performance issues if the battle drags out far too long (*cough* infinite Derro waves in Sendai Enclave *cough*).
PPS Eh, I missed the part about not making PC invisible... Still, I *suspect* some crusaders may have moved outside the castle proper to chase some coalition soldiers. Mage reinforcements have Horror memorized too, and once coalition runs out of spellcasters to counter it, it's entirely possible somebody tried to run outside with crusaders on their heels.
Thanks for the clarification @Ardanis! Well - Xagul stayed outside of the castle not far away from the map edge. If there is no timer or special loss condition some Crusaders most likely slipped through and found the waiting - and helpless - Xagul. Too bad. Next time i will go invisible AND put on Whispers of Silence!
If there is no timer or special loss condition some Crusaders most likely slipped through and found the waiting - and helpless - Xagul.
Yep, mage reinforcements have Horror at their disposal as well. It's not very effective while coalition spellcasters can use Remove/Resist Fear, but once they're dead and crusaders establish numerical superiority, I wouldn't be surprised if an occasional coalition soldier tried to escape through the gate and crusaders followed him.
Okay, i am not giving up that easily - but this time i am falling back to the good old Fighter/Druid once more. I thought briefly about Korgath but - no - its not his time yet.
Allacaya has started the usual running: Shoal -> get Drizzt Items -> prepare for Mutamins Garden -> use the Basilisk XP loop to jump up to level 7/8. The loop worked perfectly this time with her new friend not getting petrified once. With Korax and three Nymphs she also paralyzed Kirian and her party only to burn them down with lightnings!
Time to get Dushais Ring and push Reputation once more. But first: Some rest!
Awesome! I've always thought fighter/druids had excellent potential over the course of the saga for LoB mode... although, for ToB, a lot of it depends on whether @Harpagornis will be using SCS shapeshifting to get that precious Earth Elemental Token and its +1 APR and +50% damage resistance to stack with Hardiness.
Undispellable defenses are awfully important in LoB mode as well as in ToB in general.
i switched back to the game only to see the Death Screen.
Dying while off doing something else - seems a bit careless to me . Incidentally I assume that Xagul's portrait was still visible - if that had gone and there was no text suggesting a method of death I would imagine a bug was responsible.
Best of luck with the fighter/druid. I've rolled up a berserker with the intention of dualling to mage - probably at level 7.
Edit: so far, so good. No problems getting up to level 7 and Rapper is about to dual to a mage.
Yeah, i am thinking to put the SCS Shapeshifting on - IF Allacaya beats Big B. But if i keep dying in @Grond0 style :P i maybe have to drop back to Korgath sooner or later. We will see!
Good luck with the Berserker/Mage @Grond0 - also thougt about that combo until realizing: Its a Mage!
Oh i also tested a 1vs1 between Big B and Rigah. The Berserker was critting nearly all day long - for up to 48 damage - and put Big B down to 622 HP before going down. But: With full buffs and Durlags Goblet he is even able to tank Big B - and take him down in a straight close combat fight. Crazy guy!
@Harpagornis and @Grond0 Thanks! Great tips. My call woodland beings, though, don't have hold monster, they only have charm and entangle, I think one of my mods messed with their spells. I think I'll try and use PfU and go form there, thanks again guys!
Edit: Yep its aTweaks revised call woodland beings Zzzzzzzz
She charmed Dushai on try number 44 dropping reputation to 4. At the FAI she spared some gold to push it back to 10 and did all reputation quests she could get. Shortly after she was sitting at 20 and bought Sandthief Ring, Displacer Cloak and Greenstone Amulet in Ulgoths Beard.
The main quests were quite simple: Sneak through to Mulahey - charm and feed him to the Kobolds. Use four Nymphs to wear down Tranzig and use Sandthief Ring to get in and out of the tent unseen! Taurgosz - like always - was feeded to the Bandits so Allacaya now proudly wears Full Plate Armor!!
Next will be the Cloakwood - Drasus and Davaeorn are waiting!
So far no near-death experience - the Nymphs are always keeping her safe!
The only thing i am missing a bit are the lovely level 5 Druid spells. But one cannot have everything - no?
EDIT: Luck is on Allacayas side as she charmed Drasus on second and Davaeorn on first try. While the first one was eaten by the Guards the second one was slain by his own Battle Horrors. Time to visit the city of Baldurs Gate once more!
Rapper had progressed as a mage up to level 5 without problems, but a slight lapse of concentration proved costly fighting basilisks at Durlag's Tower. I was listening a bit too closely to some cricket and didn't notice the familiar had got poisoned by a basilisk. Their poison is not particularly virulent, so that wouldn't have been a problem if I'd noticed and got the familiar to retreat immediately. However, it stayed in there and was poisoned again by the next attack - and that was a problem ...
Desastrous things are happening here! Or with other words: Allacaya got obliterated!
I cant remember when dying to Slythe the last time but in this run everything went wrong. Five Guards got charmed and five Nymphs got summoned so Allacaya buffed herself up and let the Nymphs cast Hold Monsters on Slythe. The log stated the Kristin got held so only Slythe attacked. Hah - easy win! No? No! Cause out of nowhere a Chaos spell landed right in the middle of the action - also hitting Allacaya as i did not react fast enough. Looked like Kristin somehow managed to get back to action?! As Allacaya was invisible everything seemed to be fine but - no - she started attacking a nearby women and turned visible. Slythe seemed to have waited for this moment - went invisible - and killed her with a backstab followed by a quick thrust. End of story!
Oh dear - that was really sloppy play!! Time for another restart no?
Death is not the end! With Allacaya´s soul being touched by an evil outsider she got reborn as a manifestation of darkness. It isnt Allacaya anymore - no - she has turned around into Ayacalla the Fallen One. Beware Sword Coast - beware little Slythe!
Being in evil mood - what fits better than rolling on with a Blackguard? Here we go:
Update:
Shoal: Kited down with Composite Longbow. Basilisks: 25 scroll proved to be more than enough so level 8 was reached in 10 minutes. Kirian: With her Lesser Basilisk and Korax the whole group got paralyzed or petrified. Once back to Flesh Korax or another Arrow let them take a deep look into darkness.
Dushai and reputation next. Every step is getting her closer to Slythe!
Okay! Ayacalla is close to her nemesis - Slythe! After pushing reputation to 20 - and getting lucky of not running into any problematic ambush - she sneaked through the Nashkel Mines and feeded the charmed Mulahey to his kobolds. Good old Marl tanked Tranzig in Beregost while in the Bandit Camp Ayacalla used the Sandthief Ring to get in and out of the tent unseen. Taurgosz spent his Full Plate after looking to deep into the abyss so she moved on to the Cloakwood. She skipped most parts but charmed Drasus and his party one by one to give the higly motivated Guards some good punching. Sneaking through the tunnels she finally met Davaeorn and - as charming did not work this time - she burned everyone down with Necklace of Missiles while sniping Davaeorn down afterwards soaking or avoiding his spells.
In Baldurs Gate she did some usual business for Scar and getting essential items like Baldurans Helm & Cloak etc. In between she also grabbed some Tomes by just running through Sirens & Tasloi to push CON as well as CHA. Greenstone Amulet saved her from any danger against the charming ones. She investigated the Iron Throne by charming Halbazzer Drin to get another free Invisibilty, grabbed the documents on top level and rushed out unharmed.
Back in Candlekeep she tricked the Ogre Mages with Invisbility Potion, while protecting against the trap damage in the catacombs. To spare another charge she only went invisible after getting the last Tome but beforehand - thanks to one misclick - a Phase Spider managed to poison her. Being prepared for this one she gulped one Antivenom, took the Strenght Tome and finally turned invisible. Not bothering about the Dopplegangers, Prat or the Basilisks she sneaked out unseen - heading back to Baldurs Gate once more!
Beware Slythe - Ayacalla is coming for you!!
EDIT:
Slythe has fallen - finally! With five charmed Guards waiting for some action Ayacalla lured the Assassin to her new friends while always making sure that she not gets targeted. With the Guards tanking she dispelled Slythes buffs, coated her Acid Arrows with poison and shooted with 4 APR nonstop unless the evil one went invisible again. Then she immediately ran around the corner to break the line of sight so Slythe would backstab the Guards one more time. This worked perfectly. Especially funny: In the moment Kristins Chaos confused the Guards Slythe went down to another Acid Arrow so Ayacalla quickly grabbed his loot, put on her unholy smile and moved out again. May Kristin suffer as a living being!
Cythandria was a bit trickier. With a charmed Guard Ayacalla moved up all the stairs and let her new friend soak up the incoming backstabs while being invisible. Together they took the Assassins down even though Ayacalla had to defend against one more backstab but - thanks to pushing HP and AC - she defended well and killed the attacker shortly after. With the Golems lured downstairs it was only Cythandria left. For whatever reason Ayacalla missed one Dispelling Arrow after another so the Mage had enough time to get in one Remove Magic out of Invisibilty which forced her to rebuff protections. With better aiming she took away Cythandrias defenses and shooted her down with Acid Arrows + Poison. Ayacalla spared the life of the foolish Mage, took the documents and moved out.
Before going to the Palace Ayacalla rushed hard through Durlags Tower using Invisibility and Potions to protect against the dangers of this place. The Wardens proved to be no real challenge for her as she tricked them badly. After luring Fear away - parking him near the Forge - Ayacalla lured Love away from Pride (Avarice again was never seen!) and engaged the ghost in a straight 1vs1, negating its magic and healing up three times. After kiting down the Dopplegangers on the second level she finally grabbed Durlags Goblet - ready to take on the next challenge! The Palace Ambush was quite easy this time cause as the targeting of the Dopplegangers was really horrbile. With the charmed mage parked in a nearby room the Assassin dropped his backstab on the Guards so Ayacalla started removing their buffs and shooting Acid Arrows all day long. For whatever reason the Dopplegangers mainly attacked the Guards and Nobles while completly ignoring the Dukes. Only thing Ayacalla had to take a look on was to interrupt the Shaman whenever he tried casting (no need for Greenstone Amulet or Magic Potion). Only the Mage - who got destroyed quite quickly - managed to land one Fireball in the middle of the Dukes so once Sarevok raged down one Guard both were only "barely injured".
Sarevok is no more! The same procedure as every run with dispelling, burning & kiting! Too bad her evil brother always saved against poison but so far this ability was a nice DPS addition. Lets see how Korlasz deals with this! If you remember: Mordra the Blackguard was my very first character who beat Big B months ago. Time to do it again and join Korgath in SoA - may darkness prevail...
