I'm thinking of finally starting a new IWD run with a shaman in my party.
Did we get any shaman-specific items with the 2.5 patch? Didn't think it was worth creating a new thread just to ask this.

Hello. I play in iwd for android. one character died. I accidentally took "detaching the character". can somehow add a new character? Thank you for your help.

@Michau5252 You should copy and move your save to the folder mpsave and load your game in MP. Then you'll be able to create a new character. After that you can save the game and move the new save to the folder save.

Hey guys I just started Heart of Winter and was wondering where i could find the 8th level scroll for spell trigger? I’ve looked through all the guides and was starting to think it wasn’t in the game but found this game instructions IWDEE-Manual-2-Mastering-Melee-Magic.pdf and it lists it.

Anyone know of any decent Icewind dale novelisations that follow the game closely?

Also, for those looking for Shaman specific items, there is a mod which does that... Argent77's Improved shamanic dance, component 5.

    Greetings.
Can anyone, please, tell me - where can I find a full(not full?) list of upgradable/crafted items (like Stoutward) in IWD:EE?

The only upgreadable items that I remember from the original IWD+expansions were:
    • Dirty Lew in Lower Dorn's Deep making you a shield from a Rhino Beetle shell.
    • Someone making you an armor from an Umber Hulk hide (I think?).
    • Tiernon in Gloomfrost upgrading Aihonen's Blade to make it more powerful.
The Item Upgrade for Icewind Dale mod added more (including for the Stoutward shield that you mention).

The Enhanced Edition merged that mod into the base game, so that mod's readme file is probably the most complete list of upgradeable items in addition to the aforementioned three.
Are all the items included? I don't seem to be able to get the Yeti Hide Armor or the Cloak of the Winter Wolf crafted.

    Hi.

    1. Can a dual class warrior-to-mage be wearing shield ring?
    2. Is there a magical boomerang dagger in game?

@SorrowSeer I went to check for you, and even knowing full well there *is* such a thing as a shield ring I could not find it. Will report back asap. :p

Edit: if you mean the shield amulet, that doesn't seem to have any restrictions.

    @SorrowSeer

    1. You can use any gear your previous class can use when you reactivate it.

    2. Not that I'm aware of.

    1. There are some restrictions for an item (as You can see on an image).
    2. http://www.gibberlings3.net/iu_iwd/
This mod was integrated by developers to game, but I don't know for how full it was integrated.

Pretty sure that item is specifically and intentionally coded to be no-good for FM, FMT, and FMC... it's pretty dang OP already, since you can combine it with Protection +2/+3 items unlike enchanted armor, and can put on a non-armor robe with a bunch of other bonuses in the body slot

Of course you COULD just keep casting the lvl. 1 shield spell, but at 30 sec / level that can get kinda tedious

    Classes that CAN use it:
    Single-class Mages and Specialists
    Sorcerers and Disciples
    C/M
    M/T

One of the key reasons for multiple playthroughs is aquiring the uniue equipment from npcs that typically break the game. For instance, unique awesome boots from the leader of the first town at start. You need to kill him to get the boots but then cant continue...so get his boots. Then export your party and start over.
This can be done with several important NPCs in the game but usually requires exporting and starting over.
Sorcerersplace.net is a great place to find out who has what items to loot.
This exporting trick can also be used to clone uber items like the chess peaces. They can be cloned. Put on 1 character, export then move to second char and repeat..with a little work you now have 6 bishops..so put all 6 on char 1 and export..then switch to char 2..soon you can have 30+ bishops or mulitple of any unique item in the game.

How's the class balance in IWD? Is it like bg2: all about fighter mages, one thief for traps/locks, one cleric for misc spells, and other classes sucking like druid? I love the druid class but it's so underpowered in general...

You can make any characters B.A. by dual classing. Start as a fighter to level 4 then switch class to druid, theif, mage et c. This way you have the fighters stentgh and HP to back up the skills of your second class. Its the best way to survive as a mage. Just make sure to plan this out when creating. Make sure to have the high stentgh and constitution along with whatever skill is needed for the second class.

Thx bud, and that's kinda sad. Since they must have 15 minimum Cha.

The charisma effects songs. Inteligence for spells.

    For who, bards?

Charisma doesnt give any bonuses to songs.
And intelligence only keeps you from scribing successfully and limits max spell level (if that was even implemented?).

4 is too low to matter, might as well just multiclass

Single class casters are better off as Dragon Disciples or Shamans if you want non-squishy and versatile, or Sorcerers for squishier but one more spell per level per day (casting limit, not spell level or known spells)

That's a real convoluted way to do something you can easily accomplish with EEKeeper. Or if you want to make it more like part of the game, use Near Infinity to place the items in various chests or monster drops.

According to this (from IWD EE manual) INT level is crucial for ability to cast high lvl spells

Actually Intelligence limits only the ability to scribe the scrolls of high level spells into your spellbook, but not the actual casting of the spell. What this means is that you can consume a Potion of Genius, raise your character's intelligence to a high value, scribe all the scrolls you want to, and that's it! Now you have all the required spells in your spellbook, and you can still cast them when the potion's effect is over and your character's intelligence has dropped to the original value.

And they cap out at spell level 6, so you only actually need the barely-literate INT of 12 anyway

As to spell scribe failure, something's iffy about the implementation, I've watched an INT 19 fail on 3 consecutive reloads on multiple occasions

Actually no. In IWD, bards can cast up to level 8 spells at character level 30 (Ref: IWDEE Manual Part 2, Pg. 377), which means a lot. ;) (Especially considering that it is always possible to reach level 30 with any character in IWD.)

The cap of level 6 only applies to the Baldur's Gate series.

Was it a specialist wizard? They have a penalty to scribe spells that aren't in their favored schools. (IIRC)

Hello. I played the original IWD and now the new version and am having problems. My characters are getting killed and am getting left with 1 - maybe 2 - in my party. Both badly injured. I cannot get characters to drink the healing potions during or after the battles. My characters during battle, once they take hits, their circles go yellow and their inventory screen grey out. I cannot do anything with them. Not even move them. Just watch them die. I cannot even generate replacement characters after battle. Extremely frustrated.....please help.
  • SjerrieSjerrie Member Posts: 1,234
@moflahfe what creatures are you fighting? Are your yellow circled characters still moving on their own?

It sounds to me like a spell effect (like confused) or morale failure...

Beetle bugs, basically anything that I have fought so far. Thankfully for quick saves where I can go back and start over. I'm right at the beginning of the game. I went down into the cellar and got stuck. Then I started over and went a different way and was tricked by a man in a bar to go to a castle and was attacked. Each battle, as soon as I took hits I went yellow and couldn't move.
