I really dislike point systems, and the one here in particular. It currently incentivizes the wrong things--does anyone really think that Tr_ond contributes more to the forums than Jalily or PhillipDaigle? I love the meme thread, but c'mon. Awarding points for likes and agrees simply reinforces groupthink and actually works against good discussion.
I still haven't figured out how to get insightfuls in bulk. That should be the real question. I mean honestly... I'm an aspie who is obsessed with BG! I am overflowing with knowledge about the game and I am always spouting it everywhere I go on the forums! Yet I only get insightfuls every once in a while. So far I have learned one somewhat decent trick: get a reaction from @SCARY_WIZARD as it will usually be an insightful. Other than that my main source of insightfuls seems to be @TJ_Hooker who actually seems to use all three positive reactions on me a lot.
Insightfuls are rare and, I think, deservedly so. Insightful seems to be reserved more for 'serious' threads and the tone of the forums tends to be a lot more light-hearted and fun. Plus, it's hard to add more knowledge to a game that's been out for over a decade.
Saberscorpion pictures of BG characters for the win. Works every time!
Honestly, just say what's on your mind and see where it goes. Some will like your words, others won't. I get excited when I get award icons for likes and stuff, but I don't post just to get those.
My bigger challenge is getting insightfuls, as I suppose I have a rather low WISDOM. Either that, or the lot reading my posts have low WISDOM and don't recognize mine as awesome. I suspect it's the former, but hope it is the latter.
Oh. And VICONIA. There. That is, like, +3 likes alone.
I click agree when somebody says something that makes me fell a "heck, yeah!" kind of emotion, or else "oh, yes, that makes perfect sense".
I click like anytime somebody makes me smile or laugh, even when I might not agree with their point. I like cleverness, and creativity. Sometimes I click like really liberally, just because I figure it helps out and encourages my friends on the board. I click like a lot.
I click insightful the least often. I click it when somebody makes me think of something I've never thought of before. I click it when the poster makes me feel a "hmmm, I've never thought of that!" kind of emotion. Sometimes, I click insightful if I think the post is especially well-written and persuasive, or shows skill in diplomacy and conflict-resolution in a heated discussion.
I don't like the system - it makes these forums seem like reddit and encourages inane posts and circle jerking. The only use for it is so that someone knows you have read/agree with their post without you having to reply.

Or perhaps we could just not have the badges they want to collect, or not display our total so that one post might get a lot to show people like it but it does not matter.
The badges and the like system are open to abuse of course and so is the flagging system and that's why the forum moderation is always observing how it's used.
If we have any reason to believe people are using fake accounts to abuse the system, for instance, actions are taken such as deleting the fake accounts and, if necessary, banishing the main account.
The badge/like system is designed to encourage people to post. This is a place to be fun, expose your ideas, ask your questions and I've seem the current system encourage people to post, to joke, to play along and even to help.
I'm in no way saying people would not help/joke if the system wasn't in place, but it's an incentive. The badge system is also a reminder that the person did/participated in something special, such as the role-player badge I have, the Tears of Bhaal badge from the poster formerly know as Bhaaldog, or the artist badges people are getting for partcipating in the art contests.
Now if anyone has any reason to believe someone is abusing the system contact a moderator. That's one of the reasons we are here. We have fun as any other forum members, actually those of you who know me in the forums know I'm one of the first ones to participate in a joke, but we also accept the responsability of making sure the rules are obeyed so that the forum remains fun for everyone.
The real question though is why did @Bhaaldog change his/her name? I've not been active on the forum for a while so I may have missed something. I do like the badge though.

Encouragement is always good, but it should never become competition
I find that I only care about the badges right before I get one. I was a few 'agrees' below a threshold, so I watched it more than before. Don't know why that excited me, but it did. Anyway, aside from that, I participate when I feel like it, or like I have something to add without a lot of thought about the bean counting of posts and the like that occurs in the dark underground of these forums...
Something which I like is that people need to have unique avatars! It makes associating content with a person far more easier...
I like this too, but then if someone changes their avatar after having had the same one forever it throws me for a loop. Almost as bad as people who up and change their name :P
I can't get anyone to agree with me... I write statements such as...
Boo is a miniature giant space hamster!
And I get usually a like off @Samus and smattering of likes off other people... I get confused about why they like it.. Did they like my post, my content, or my writing style? They didn't agree with me... Oh well...
Luckily, Samus is on the boards so often, I have totted up nearly 700 likes...
Does anyone agree that it is hard to get people to agree with you?

I'm pretty sure dark elves are behind that, too.
Request name change to the one I used in the original BG forums nearly 15 years ago and that probably nobody remembers...
Change portrait...
Confuse @TJ_Hooker
????????
Profit.
By not coming here on April 19-20 I've missed the like-fest, the agree-fest and the insightful-fest!
Free likes and agrees have been distributed here but I've gone ankheg-farmaring not knowing it...
How can I go on without it?
Bengoshi casts "Friends" on himself...
Maybe it can help a bit...

Rule 2, if you think I am wrong, read rule 1
So no problems,... no one goes against the rules.
@mlnevese *gasps* Too... Much... Irony... Noooooooooo! *head melts*
Mlnevese damages Anduin 32hp
Anduin dead
2xp
I may be ironic but I am coherent also
*resurrection*
*Blinks*
@Samus and @mlnevese After dieing an awful death by massive head melt trauma...
WHY DID YOU AGREE!
a) Do you agree that I died due to massive head melt trauma?
b) Did you agree that I SHOULD DIE through massive head melt trauma?
Or c) You are just whipping me up into a psychotic frenzy to see if you can kill me again in the next post?
