@Adul is right, especially taking into account that Torment: Tides of Numenera still has Q4 of 2015 as a release date and from several InXile interviews it looks like TToN will be released either in the end of 2015 or in the start of 2016.
Dayum! I re-watched the trailer and started to reconsider this game. The most boring (to me) heroes are reunited and coming back in SoD. I mean I would understand Minsc (maybe), but the rest, Khalid, Jaheira, Dynaheir. I wan't Edwin, Viconia and Shar-teel.. If this will focus more on the good guys, I will have to drop a couple of hamster tears.
Anyway, I am hoping to get some more footage from the game. Would be cool to have a sneak preview or something like that.
@Riderat There will be three parties: a good, a neutral and an evil, if you want to start a new game in SoD. So it's clear no only "good guys" are coming back, there will be lines for Edwin, Viconia and Safana. As for Shar-Teel, we don't know.

The "focus" on them is due to the fact that you end up with them in SOA. That's the "focus". You don't have to start SOD with them. But the end will explain how you wind up with them when Irenicus grabs you, if they weren't with you already.

See? This is what happens when the developers give us even a slight promise. People start asking. And this is why it's probably to let the developers "polish everything off" as long as they could.
"Why create an expansion for a 17-year-old game? Panelists from the Edmonton-based Beamdog are here to talk about Siege of Dragonspear, the upcoming expansion to Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition.
Panelists: Amber Scott, Andrew Foley, Philip Daigle, Mad Bee"
I feel compelled to mention that, while I've more or less confirmed that this *is* happening, the post from @bengoshi was the first I'd heard of it.

The fact that they can't seem to follow through on "even a slight promise" might be slightly more problematic than the fact that people are asking questions. The audience isn't at fault here.

What exactly are you looking for?
There has been plenty of feedback and updates in their progress all the way up to last week when Avenger came on and said they finished a massive playthrough and found some playstyle issues where they didn't want to apply "the easy fix" to. One of the examples was a pick pocketing target and instead of making the plot item unpickpocketable, they went back to the writing team to get dialog in if that situation arises.
That is what they are working on. I honestly dont know how much details you want them to divulge but I figure anything they do say or promise will be picked a par and ridiculed once it is.
I'm tired of waiting. Why arent you spending some of your precious time coming round to my house personally, to explain to me in minute detail exactly what your doing, including what cereal you buy, and where you buy it!
I'm tired of waiting! I really have absolutely nothing else to do with my time, or my life for that matter. Except wait. And wait. And moan that you havn't come round to my house and told me if you like shredded wheat!
If you don't finish it soon I will.... I will... I mean.... I will get really angry!
Just hurry up and rush everything, just to please me. And when you release it with problems, because you've dome what I said and rushed the game just to please me... boy will I be really really angry then!
I'm getting confused now? Do you like coco pops or Weetabix? I want the game NOW. I want news NOW. Your ruining my life! You are really ruining my life! I'm running out of sarcy wisecracks to make about you and your company. TELL ME!!!!!!!
Or....
I'm happy to wait. It gives me something to look forward too!

I once came to a conclusion that spring is usually a calm period for Beamdog (https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/40825/it-turnes-out-that-the-spring-is-usually-a-calm-period-for-beamdog#latest) while nearly all their games and major patches were released in October-November.
The new AI enhancements will work for BG1 and BG2 too ? Or specifically with DS.
In the same time, we know of Beamdog's wish to bring eventually the engine updates to BGEE and BG2EE.
https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/comment/655178/#Comment_655178
Yet, the developers said that integrating SoD's advanced AI into BG:EE is somewhat more complex than simply merging the code bases together.
https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/comment/666446/#Comment_666446
A change of this magnitude would involve rewriting the existing AI, not simply setting a few flags. Such an undertaking would be enormous.

So, it remains to be seen whether it will be possible to get the same AI as in SoD in BGEE and BG2EE.
Anyway, I am hoping to get some more footage from the game. Would be cool to have a sneak preview or something like that.

@TrentOster should we give up hope on SOD being released this year?
@JayMcIntyre1 Good question. We're trying to land it this year on PC. But, the game bug list will tell us when it is done.
___
It's much better to have a big bug list as a reason for a later release date, than to have a relatively early release date with a big bug list.
