Did you know that the charname finds out details of this stoty during a romance with Viccy? The details change your perception of Viconia and her past, I think:
Viconia: "I made the attempt to purchase land on the outskirts of Beregost. I dropped your good name whenever necessary to remain on steady footing locally. I remained hooded at all times, and it was only a matter of time and materials before I would own my own homestead , away from prying eyes. I was not looking to be a farmer, of course. I just...wanted a place of my own. Where I could find peace. My neighbor was Roran Midfallow, a stout, sunburned farmer. We spoke often, and I allowed the male to bring me supplies that I needed but could not acquire."
"Over time, we formed an awkward friendship. He did not ask why I wore my hood, and I slowly began to trust him. He wondered, though...that was obvious. The time to reveal myself as Drow came one late afternoon. A warm day; the sun was dappling along the south quarter of his farmland, and I pulled down my hood. Then he smiled a warm inviting smile. He mentioned that his oldest son, Jiscanan, was busy making a feast to burst the first button, and that I was invited. We walked to his farmhouse, where his other son, a surly oaf named Funnard, was sickling quackgrass in the front yard. When I reached his farmhouse, I learned his true intentions. Somebody hit me in the back of my skull, and the ground rushed up to meet me. I had grown weak in my trust. They chortled as I lost consciousness, saying how easy it had been and congratulating each other on a fine...a fine catch."
"I woke up to searing pain. While unconscious, they had abused and tortured me... then tried to bury their sins. I could see nothing except for the lid of a coffin. They had buried me alive... a mistake not to kill me outright. The fools knew the name 'Drow', but were ignorant of my true spirit. Pain is the handmaiden of my people; their tortures were amateurish in comparison. I split the coffin lid and let the earth in. I clawed to the surface, and pain did not slow me..."
These lines more than explain Viconia's actions and after reading them I will never call her "all that much of a damsel in distress". She has suffered a lot and nobody would want to come through that.
Of course, Viconia reacted:
"I took my revenge. I watched their house, listening to them celebrate their victory in the midst of drunkenness. I watched and I waited. Jiscanan, the younger son, left to use the outhouse. I jammed a stake in the door, trapping him inside. Then I set the building aflame. Roran came running, yelling to Funnard. As he stood helpless before the flames I wrapped a garrote around his neck... I whispered to him of his mistake, and mine; he had underestimated a Drow, and I had trusted foolishly. I tightened the wire until he breathed no more. By this time the elder son, Funnard, returned with a bucket from the well to find his father's corpse and his brother a smoldering ember. He dropped to his knees in shock, which afforded me a height advantage as I caved his head with a miner's mallet."
Ya those farmers should of killed her and saved her the pain of being burned at the stake. I personally find Viconia the least charming of all the NPCs. To me, Nalia has more charm.
@bengoshi While I would love the initial encounter with Viconia in BG1 to be a foreshadowing of that dialogue, the time line doesn't fit. How can she "drop your good name" before she even knows or have been rescued by CHARNAME? So it's either an unrelated set of murders - I don't really believe that - or the developers made a small mistake in the dialogue.
Sounds like it was a separate event. The second story doesn't make any mention of a wife either, among those killed according to the flaming fist fellow, which lends credence to them being separate events.
It's pretty interesting that there are hidden dialogues you can find by using charm though. I only stumbled across the one in Nalia's keep-I wonder how many others are out there to discover?
The names of the elder and younger sons change, first Jiscanan is the oldest and Funnard the "other", and then he becomes the youngest when Viccy talks about killing him, and Funnard is the elder.
It sounds like Viconia took inspiration from the murder in BG I, and adapted it-aging the farmers children, removing the wife, and adding in mistreatment at the hands of the farmers to look tough while still looking like a victim. I hadn't noticed the sons age swap before, but that combined with the eerie similarities to the murders she apparently committed in BG I seem to make the truthfulness of her tale and her motives questionable.
Interesting. I haven't done any Viconia romance content for a long time because of the problematic 'Taming of the Shrew (or in this case, drow) vibes that it gave me, but it seems like I might have missed a few of the nuances of it. I might have to give it another go.
Did you know that nonmagical weapons are really useful in The Black Pits 2? There are a lot of enemy mages who cast Protection from Magical Weapons but aren't immune to normal weapons, such as the elemental-summoning mage.
If you cast DUHM, including as the Bhaalspawn ability, and make your CON 20 at least, and then rest, you will wake up fully fit. In this case, DUHM's effect will end only after your rest.
Due to the fact the bug section doesn't get the same attention among forumites as this thread, I'd like to note that if your characters are slowed maybe it's better to dispel magic than to haste them in order to take the slow effect off:
"Slowed creatures have an Armor Class and attack penalty of -4. A haste spell should negate the effects of a Slow spell, but It doesn't work. The Armor Class and attack penalty doesn't disappear with the haste spell."
Maybe this is a known thing among others but I have been quite surprised to find out you can enter the Slaver Compound from the surface of the Slums area: you just have to open the locked door to enter.
All these years I always used to reach the Slaver Compound through the tunnel under the Copper Coronet and had to begin a rather difficult fight as soon as I entered the Compound.
When you come in from the Slums area directly, you have all possibilities to clear that location step-by-step.
It was on Forgotten Realms wiki, so not a secret thing, but did't know that Bhaal has a third avatar, a shape-shifting one called Kazgoroth (i bet this name is familiar to you).
(Also in that wiki article from Bhaal: "Part of his divinity remains in the Winding Water, around Boareskyr Bridge where he was slain, his blood having flowed into the river.")

Did you know that Kuo-Toas resist magic damage? They are the only enemies in the game I can think of that resist magic damage naturally, except of course for people who you aren't supposed to kill.

The Aurumach and Ferrumach Rimani in Watcher's Keep is another example. Nabassu (for instance in Suldanesselar) would be another.
We all know that Shar-Teel's phrase "If it bleeds, I can kill it." is a reference to the movie "Predator" with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Did you know Shar-Teel has another reference to Arnie?
She says (to Minsc): "You are such a funny man! That's why I'm going to kill you last.". It's a reference to John Matrix from the movie "Commando" (one of my favourites, by the way: "You're a funny guy, Sully. I like you. That's why I'm going to kill you last."

In Icewind Dale, Presio can say, "For your appreciation of the dark arts, I shall kill you last."
Did you know that most of the "enforced" scripted ambushes that break the rules and supernaturally locate and apprehend your party anywhere, still actually won't find you while you travel under Mass Invisibility ?

O.o
I had think on this for a while since I forgot my picture was Kivan. lol. But don't let me derail this thread; ummmmm...
Did you know that most people who have a female 'charname' and romance Anomen are actually dating this guy in real life?
Yeah, that was my first thought as well.

I wonder if that was an oversight or intentional.

It still works in BGEE and BG2EE.

Also The Crow is played by Brandon Lee. Bruce Lee's son.
Go to 1:09 and tell me if it sounds familiar.
