I guess it's because other specialists can't cast level 9 spells from level 1 slots... not terribly rational, but aybe an attempt at balance?
Edit: Also... I'm not sure how the engine would deal with wild surges on other classes abilities. You might try to set a trap or poison your weapon and end up with a bovine hat...

Its likely for mechanical reasons. As I understand it (and I could be wrong about this since I've never tested it) if you do it using EEKeeper/Shadowkeeper it would cause for instance a wild mage/cleric to cast cleric spells with the same sort of +5 / -5 to caster level (and chance of a wild surge) that you'd normally get with your arcane spells. So preventing you from dual classing could just be an attempt to avoid having to address that.
I'm currently running Unfinished Business for the first time and the Sir Sarles quest has been altered to go look for the Duergar's brother.
Ok, so far so good.
But what about Nasty Neb? Am I still going to get chance to kill him? Because I'd really like to kill him! Is there any other way to trigger his appearance?
(I'd prefer to avoid using the console if possible.)
If the Unfinished Business mod is installed, Ungar Hilldark's problem has been altered indeed, so you have to find his brother, Gorje, first. You must rescue Gorje before you can find out about Neb and deal with him. So, you're still going to get Neb's Nasty Cutter Just follow the quest and it should be fine!
The Expanded Dual-Class Options component of BG2 Tweaks let's you to dual class from Wild Mage and works both on BGEE and BG2EE.
Ipad:/
Well, in this case I guess you can transfer your character to yout PC, change what you need to change with the EE-keeper, and then transfer your character back to the tablet.

Don't have a PC, don't have the PC version. I'll just get around to my evil playthrough(finally)

Why don't you have a pc ????
PJ is correct. Apple. Old, decrepit, and 1GB of free storage left apple.
@meagloth doesn't say he don't have windows he said he don't have pc so I'm asking why.
Colloquially PC = you are running Windows (or maybe I suppose you could be running linux as well). I mean yes technically it stands for "personal computer", but its just not normally used to refer to macs.

I see, still what I refer to was the fact that you said you don't have a pc meaning you can't use the EE keeper you know there is a EE keeper for mac as well so I just assume you don't have either of them which basically from what you are saying it kinda true.

I was under the impression that EEkeeper had to be run with a wineskin. And regardless, I don't have either game on my Mac.
Yeah, can't say that I know much about it myself (been a Windows user pretty consistently), but some friends of mine that are more knowledgeable on such things have repeatedly mentioned the superiority of the old apple hardware.
Can't say I'm an expert on Apple, but wasn't the OS always a UNIX? I'm not sure I'd call it Linux-based though, more like a brother to Linux.
If I'm not mistaken, the first Unix based OS was released by Apple in 2001. The original file system, first introduced in 1984, had nothing to do with UNIX or DOS.
They used to have PowerPC right, which is different, but the superiority is arguable (to "PC hardware").
Yep, This is indeed arguable and I was expressing merely my opinion above. People have argued for years on whether for example the Motorola processors were better or worse than the Intel ones.
Considering the OS instead, or the whole package hardware+OS, it is difficult imo to argue against the superiority of Apple, at least from the release of the first Macintosh in 1984 until most of the '90s. PCs were constantly several years behind in terms of innovation.
I would like to mention just a couple of examples:
1) in the early '90s (when Windows 95 didn't even existed yet) on Apple computers you could already use a small version of a picture as icon for the file containing that picture, i.e. they had introduced what we call now thumbnails. Today this is taken for granted in any OS, but when I first realised, more than 20 years ago, that you could do that on a Apple machine, my face had probably the same expression of the guy in the video I've posted above
2) when Microsoft finally released Windows 95, one of the new features announced was the possibility to use names longer than 8 characters. People in Apple were not impressed, as they had started using longer names in their file system several years before so, to mock Microsoft, they released t-shirts with texts like CNGRTLTN.W95 or C:\NGRTLTN
I am working on a foreign translation and I often find myself confused by certain strings.
For example, what's the deal with Pique? Does he even appear in the finished game? He is using many of Imoen's catchphrases. However, I've read somewhere that those catchphrases spoken in a female voice are leftovers from an unrelated project. Or do they somehow originate with Pique?

Interesting. It is the first time I hear of this Pique character. I gave a quick look in NearInfinity and it seems it is some cut content from the original vanilla game. Maybe, something to do with a quest involving Eldoth.
@Azzara, if you are translating, I think you can just ignore his strings.
I see. So, I suspect this is what happened. 1. They had Pique in the game but no budget for his voice. 2. They had some leftover female voice lines so they created a female NPC from scratch (Imoen). 3. Pique in the engine using those same lines is probably a developer joke which came later. 4. Everything about Pique's dialog is irrelevant because he does not appear in the final game.

Does he not show up between Nashkel and the Nashkel Mines if you don't talk to him at the Friendly Arm Inn?
