Q: Why do some weapons rather arbitrarily do more damage than others of their classification? Eg: the Warblade is d12, Grave-Binder is d6 & Crom Faeyr is 2d4.
Is there any way to complete the Maevar quest if you've said no to Edwin's request to invade a cowled wizard's home? After saying no to him, I dispatched the assassins that spawn into the room. Confronting and killing MaeVar afterwards just resulted in me getting killed by some random super-assassin.

Of course! The most interesting situations comes from these parties imho. There are few Npc-s who don't like each other, and a few, who dispart, when your reputation is extremely high/low, but otherwise a mix party is more, than playable.
Adding to what @lolien has said, I have to mention that there're indeed some NPC pairs that just cannot be in the same party. The time between them seeing each other in your party and having a conflict differs based on which particular NPCs we're talking about and/or the charisma of your party leader.
For i.e., if you're travelling with Anomen and take Dorn, the conflict will happen immediately; in the same time, if Anomen fails his test and you also have Keldorn in your party, these two will fight each other not immediately but after some time, usually at a completely wrong moment for your playthrough
I'll always remember one of my earliest attempts at Baldur's Gate when I finally reached Beregost, thinking to myself, "I'm finally getting the hang of this" and then my party turning on each other and fighting to the death. "Why are they doing this? How can I stop them? Oh NO!" Which is the advantage of not using walkthroughs & guides. Intensely annoying at the time but very memorable.
Does anyone know the name of the music from the Temple of Oghma in BG2? Is it in any of the soundtracks? Here is a rip of the music from the game http://www71.zippyshare.com/v/55235577/file.html

It's actually the music that plays in all the temples, not just Oghmas
I just finished the first game and directly jumped into BGII. I was surprised to see what Imoen now could cast spells, having a long list of memorized spells when clicking the magic button (and checking her mage book), but I'm not sure how to cast them. They are listed, but greyed out. Do I lack some stat requirement to cast them or is it just some list of all possible spells she can cast whenever she has a scroll with a remembered one in her inventory?

@Sergio You don't even have to be evil. You can kill them and everything plays out exactly the same, only you actually get the satisfaction of ending their lives.
Actually, just try to talk to Kestor 1 too many times (like 2, maybe 3) and they will attack YOU. In which case you can avoid even a twinge of guilt for the ~ 8-9000 XP you get out of the skirmish.
(They AREN'T pushovers, however. If you are doing this while trying for a high-speed, no-side-quests runthrough, think twice and buff hard before you rile them. Kill Rieltar first.)
Will not updating BG:EE to 1.3 be a problem if I do update BG2:EE when the patch for it comes out? I don't want most (Pretty much all) of what BG:EE 1.3 does, but BG2:EE sounds like it needs the patch.
I hope that you understand that in addition to the 2-3 new features that are the marquee listed items and the motivators for the patch, there are somewhere between 200 & 300 other fixes and tweaks in the patch. ...and even just the green tinting of unlearned spell scrolls is remarkably useful.

(BG1 only!): Don't have a lot of experience with this, but fairly extensive experience with Dorn and Viconia in a 'good' (except for looting, and picking fights with Fisters in the wilderness, and...) party.
First, for ANY evil character, you must keep your rep below 19 or the evil character will leave your party immediately, and with the possible exception of Dorn, LEAVE THE GAME FOREVER. Viconia will certainly do this. Dorn MIGHT return to the FAI, but I wouldn't count on it.
It is a (small) bit easier to keep your rep below 19 when incorporating either Dorn or Viconia, because due to the general prejudice against their races, your rep will be immediately depressed 2 points whenever each of them joins you. Be careful, however. This 2 point drop DOES NOT mean that you can't get your rep BACK up to 19...and when you do, they are out of there, for good.
Be doubly careful if you are running both of them in the same 'good' party. Recruiting the two of them will depress your rep by a total of 4 points, say 19 down to 15. If you then increase your rep back to 18 with three rep bump events, and then drop out Dorn maybe, perhaps to make room for Coran or Alora, your rep will bounce UP 2 points when you drop Dorn...so now it is 20...and Viconia will immediately leave forever.
Even carefully keeping your rep at 18 may not be enough for some play situations. If are recruiting Dorn or Viconia, it is OK if your rep is at 20. When one of them joins, your party rep will drop by 2 points, to 18, and evil characters will tolerate that level while they are a member, although they will complain a bit. Other evil characters simply will not join the party when your rep is 19 or 20, or they will leave immediately after joining.
However, if you want to drop Viconia, or any evil character, out of the party TEMPORARILY, to shop with a better reputation discount perhaps, you MUST NOT drop them when your party rep is 17 or 18. You need to get the party rep down to 16 before you separate them. If you drop out an evil character when the party rep is 17 or above, they will be offended/feel out of place...and leave the game FOREVER (with the possible exception of Dorn.)
It may seem silly, but one of the easiest ways to separate Viconia (or other evil character) from the party, when you are rep 17/18, is take them to a safe place (I use Kagain's shop), and hand them a Cursed Scroll of Petrification. Tell them it's a letter from their mom, or something. When they read it and are petrified, they are automatically separated from the party and made neutral, almost as if they had never been recruited. You can even un-petrify them right away, and they will stay in place, with a blue character circle.
Then you can go off and do those last couple of quests that run your rep up to 20 without driving them away. Enjoy that 20 rep 50% shopping discount. In the case of Viconia/Dorn, you can them re-recruit them and your rep will automatically drop 2 points to a level they will tolerate. In the case of other evil characters, before you re-recruit you will have to stage a couple of (escapable) arguments with the Fist over housebreaking or some such in order to depress your rep to 18; then you can re-recruit.
Let's see...Ah...conflicts! I don't know much about the special conflicts between all the various evils and goods, but I know a couple.
Xan/Montaron vs Jaheira/Khalid: Even though Jaheira is TN, these two pairs will EVENTUALLY get into it with each other, and when they do someone is gonna die (probably Montaron and Xan, but it depends a bit on what spells you have queued up on Xan.) The only way you're going to stop the fight is to paralyze/petrify all or most of the contenders...which are 2/3s of your party at that point, in case you weren't counting. This animosity starts off as a slow burn, however, and you should be able to keep these two pairs together in a party until you get to Nashkel and complete both pairs recruitment quests (which are really the same requirement.) You may be able to get them to work together through the Nashkel Mines. It may be just my imagination but it seems to help suppress the rivalry for awhile if the party stays really active, and is fighting other creatures a lot. I wouldn't try to keep them together any longer than the Nashkel Mines, though; there will be blood on the floor of the Nashkel Inn if you do.
I believe that if Khalid gets (ahem) accidentally killed/petrified/left behind in an abandoned house, Jaheira's True Neutral convictions will assert themselves more fully, with the result that she will tolerate either evil or good characters as companions.
Viconia vs Elves (and vs Kivan)(and vs Coran): Viconia is TRYING to fit in on the surface. However, Elves DON'T like Drow, and Drow don't like Elves, and old (old, old, old) cultural biases are hard to break. Viconia and any Elves in your party are going to occasionally argue. When they do, I recommend that you see if you can move them away from each other for awhile. It really seems to help if there is a non-elf character in the party order (portrait stack) in between Viconia and any Elf. Still, in my experience, as long as the party is reasonably active, the exchanged insults should NOT come to blows, except...
Kivan REALLY cannot stand Drow. Kivan and Viconia WILL eventually fight if you keep them next to each other. However, if you are careful to keep them separated by at least one character, both in formation and in the party order, it is possible to successfully keep both of them in the party all the way through BG1. One thing that may help is...
Coran. Coran shares the general surface Elf prejudice against Drow (let's face it...usually with good reason.) However, Coran is also a 1st class horndog, and Viconia is an...obsidian masterpiece of femininity. They will annoy each other some times, but their banters seem to be about evenly split between cultural insults and pick-up lines, and they do not seem to fight. I still steer clear of keeping them adjacent all the time, but I have never seen them fight. So if your party is running heavily to Elves, you should be able to use Coran as a buffer sometimes.
Also, it does not seem to matter to Viconia in BG1 if the CHARNAME is an Elf, and she does not get annoyed or insulting when adjacent to the CHARNAME. (I understand that in BG2 Viconia will not 'romance' an Elf, and that's a shame for my current CHARNAME, but BG1 is working out.)
OK. I think that is all the insight I've got for 'evil with sufficient redeeming qualities to be companions'. Let us know what YOUR experiences are.
Thanks for the info on Coran and the "obsidian masterpiece of femininity" dreamrider I don't think I've ever had them in the same party before. Next play through I'll have to group them up.
How does a const of 20 or higher affect regeneration? For example, I'm currently using Kagain armed with that buckler that gives +1 to con, so he currently has a con of 21 - how quickly will he regenerate, and how many HPs will he regen at one time?

I've never had any problems with the game in it's previous update, and they edited more than one thing I liked. So yes. I understand that. And no. I don't give a rats ar*e. (I don't mean to sound rude, btw.)

oops.
I'd heard nasty things about a bug... any change with the recent patch?

You can always check http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/12045/npc-interaction-and-banter-guide-ok-finished/p1 to find out what the most funny and/or dangerous party compositions are.
There're in fact 2 soundtracks but this particular composition is not included there:

BG2 soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHcu-NcWU_Y
Meanwhile, KinoAyumu on Youtube has created a playlist for every ambient music in BG2, including the music from the Temple of Oghma:
