@TakisMegas: The FBI has been a right-leaning organization for decades. Law enforcement and national security agencies are uniformly conservative-dominated institutions. That's not news; that's their history. Liberals have always been the minority in these organizations.
I recall reading a study that found some differences in brain patterns between liberals and conservatives, which I thought could explain the discrepancy. Apparently liberal brains were more likely to be geared towards weighing conflicting arguments, while conservative brains were more likely to be geared towards identifying and responding to threats.
Having a threat-oriented mind that's always looking out for danger is exactly the sort of thing that would motivate someone to work in law enforcement or security. It's also exactly the sort of thing that would make you good at that job and rise through the ranks--hence the disproportionate number of Republicans in organizations like the FBI, NSA, and CIA.
Likewise, being geared towards weighing conflicting arguments is exactly the kind of mindset that would predispose you to working in academia, hence the disproportionate number of Democrats teaching in college and graduate school.
As a matter of fact, back during the Cold War, we had a very exaggerated picture of this situation: the conservative-dominated FBI made a habit of spying on left-leaning labor activists--who often had a background in academia!--for fear that the activists were actually communist agents! This is a very old divide, dating back at least 50 years.
Even if they win seats the Democrats do not have the hard evidence needed I don't think. Atleast Monica left some cigars behind.
Plenty of evidence of obstruction of justice and campaigners colluding with Russia and illegally funneling money.
Matter of fact Spanish authorities have Trump Jr on tape with a Russian oligarch that they were monitoring (lordy there ARE tapes). They've turned it over to the FBI. Seems the scheme involved Russian government funneling cash to Trump through the NRA. Greedy traitors all.
The Spanish law enforcement guy said: “Mr. Trump’s son should be concerned.”
So why not get this out now if the tapes are real? Why wait?
Republican obstruction? Fear that Trump will break the government of the United States by pardoning his own son?
Don't ask me. It exists. The right wing leaning FBI has it. The same FBI that Trump has already fired two of his perceived enemies from.
I want to understand this but I can't. If someone has evidence then bring it forward. Claiming Republican obstruction is a cop out. Also the FBI is right leaning as well? Nazis everywhere then?
I would love to see Trump out, the world will come off this angry vibe that has consumed it. If the evidence is there, show it damn it. What happened to the Russian peeing Hooker? That tape getting obstructed too?
To have a fair and unbiased trial, most (if not all) facts and evidence against a person or person would not be shared with the media until charges are pressed or even during the trial.
The FBI isn't around to fill gossip, they're there to create a case against an individual.
A fair and balanced Trial for Trump? Really? Like a Black man getting a fair sentencing in America right?
Clinton's impeachment started from a rumor if I remember correctly.
Baldwin rips Samantha Bee: What she did is beneath her.
It's always been reputable though it suffers from an establishment bias and allowing "both sides" type debate. "one guy says the earth is flat, this other guy says its round"
It's not preconceived opinion journalism where the boss tells you what to say about the story like you get on Fox.
Don't like Fox or CNN. They are both full of shit. Wait a minute, the earth isn't flat?
**Also if you believe CNN bosses do not tell their talking heads what to say you are sadly mistaken**
Back to the steel tariffs that are being taken into effect at midnight:
Canada has hit back with a dollar for dollar tariff on u.s. imports. These tariffs will kick in July 1, so Trump and Co do have a month to back down from their stupidity. Some quotes:
"This is a very strong Canadian action in response to a very bad U.S. decision." ~ C. Freeland, Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister.
"We will continue to make arguments based on logic and common sense and hope that eventually they will prevail against an administration that doesn't always align itself around those principles." ~ J. Trudeau, Prime Minister.
Not wise, Canada might lose the Automotive jobs that are still left. Trickle down to suppliers and Dealers, mechanics, Engineers, close to 10's of thousand jobs. Nice.
Common sense and logic, two things Justin seriously lacks as well.
So what, Trudeau is just supposed to sit back and let Trump slap him (and his country) in the face and not stand up for himself?? That is a very interesting strategy. We here in the United States DESERVE whatever we are going to get economically for electing a man who is purposefully starting needless trade wars with our strongest allies. In what world should Canada and the US be in this kind of dispute?? Only a world in which Donald Trump is President.

Justin is not suppose to stand up for himself. He is suppose to stand up for all Canadians. Canada needs the States more than the States need Canada. Justin cannot be a bully back to Trump, he will lose every time and so will Canadians.

So far it's only the 'threat' of a trade war. This could be just another bluff on Trump's part to test the waters. Trump is the quintessential loose cannon. Most of his cannonballs have been duds so far though. I'm starting to think his art of the deal is more like the art of the bluff...

You're seriously overestimating both the importance of the US and Trump's ability to successfully navigate these waters without blowing up our own economy. Smart countries will retaliate by targeting manufacturing and agricultural industries located in areas Trump vote was strongest with tariffs. It is already happening in regards to soybeans.

I suggest you read his book, he is a very intelligent man. A master manipulator.
The conservative bent of the FBI, CIA, and NSA is actually the main reason why liberals like to cite their report on Russian meddling in the 2016 election: because they're three of the last organizations you'd expect to agree with the American left on an issue like this. The liberal view is not "The FBI, CIA, and NSA are great, so we should trust them." The idea is "Even they think it's true, and they never agree with us."

He's intentionally positioning things so that he will not get a fair trial.
Anyone that tries to deliver justice will be called a partisan. He only wants toadies and loyalists in charge of investigations into him who will find a way to make it where he's not guilty.

** Also, the media has already hung Trump, he's dangling from a tree in Central Park**
All these claims of the FBI being a right leaning organization yet not one mention of the fact that the FBI for the previous 8 years has been being staffed at all levels by the opponents of the right. Including the head of the FBI, who was an Obama appointee, and FBI members involved in recent high-profile investigations were in trouble for political bias to the left, not the right.
As for CNN being a reputable news source, the last time I spoke about CNN is was about the serious issue of FishGate, which turned out to be a deliberate misrepresentation on their part as evidenced by the whole of the video, and the time before that I believe it was about the time they deliberately left out the last part of a BLM's activist statements which called for violence in the suburbs when they claimed she was calling for peace. Either way, CNN is fake news.
A "False" rating by Politifact is not a criminal conviction, nor is it proof to merit one. It's not obvious to me that the statement is even all that severe as a non-criminal action, either; I don't see the concrete damage caused by it.
What do we have from this? "Clinton exaggerated how secure her office was." Worthy of criticism; not worthy of a criminal conviction.
You don't believe damage could be caused by claiming all information was turned over to an investigation when several thousand pieces of information, not turned over to the investigation, were found? You don't think it would potentially damage the investigation to not have all the information relevant to the case, especially given the fact that classified material, which was being looked for, was in that batch not given over?
Either way I actually respect the attitude of "no conviction, no crime" as long as applied universally so I won't fault you for that, yet I would argue motive is incredibly easy to infer given the timing was during an election, they were hedging their bets.
Even if they win seats the Democrats do not have the hard evidence needed I don't think. Atleast Monica left some cigars behind.

Do you have to be a Debbie Downer all the time. JK, I kid. I am starting to get the sneaking suspicion that you are a closet fan of Trumps, all the hallmarks are there.
Fear that Trump will break the government of the United States by pardoning his own son?
As I have already stated, this would not "break the government"--Trump pardoning his own son is perfectly legal, as long as his son has not been impeached (he does not hold an elected political position and therefore cannot be impeached) or faces State charges. I even described the scenario in which Trump could use the 25th Amendment to temporarily appoint Pence as Acting President, have Pence issue a pardon for Trump himself (if need be), then have Pence return the duties of the POTUS back to Trump--all perfectly legal. That sequence of events is unethical, in my opinion, but still legal.
Samantha Bee said something about someone? Please excuse me for a second while I pencil a date on my calendar to remind myself to care.

So far it's only the 'threat' of a trade war. This could be just another bluff on Trump's part to test the waters. Trump is the quintessential loose cannon. Most of his cannonballs have been duds so far though. I'm starting to think his art of the deal is more like the art of the bluff...
I suggest you read his book, he is a very intelligent man. A master manipulator.
A 'Master Manipulator' as long as the people he's manipulating are clueless. He has actual REAL power now so his 'manipulations' have actual teeth. From what I've noticed so far, if I were one of the targets of his 'manipulations' I'd do nothing and wait for his attentions to be focused elsewhere. The 'Master Manipulator' seems to have a very short attention span...
Well fair and balanced maybe a stretch right now, but the FBI doesn't want to make it worse.
With you being a Canadian, I'll give you a recent example of what happens when a person gets tried by the media before the actual courts: Jian Ghomeshi.

And no, Trump has one play, and he played with the tariffs and that is an attempt to bully the other person into agreeing with where he stands by continuously attempting to make it worse for them.
The only thing wrong right now is that the tariffs are based off "national security." Sharing the world's largest undefended border as well as missile defense system kinda kicks that in the groin.
LOL I remember that trial. Jian Ghomeshi that wannabe hipster POS. To be honest though the girl from trailerpark Boys was very friendly with a lot of men at the CBC.
** Also, the media has already hung Trump, he's dangling from a tree in Central Park**
Using the words "Central Park" and Trump in the same sentence is never a good idea, as it should immediately bring up the fact that he stood by calling for the execution of the Central Park Five even AFTER they had been exonerated by DNA evidence.
Do you have to be a Debbie Downer all the time. JK, I kid. I am starting to get the sneaking suspicion that you are a closet fan of Trumps, all the hallmarks are there.
I don't think @jjstraka34 is a fan of Trump's by any stretch of the imagination. I do think that Trump might personify everything he thinks is wrong/dangerous/evil about conservatives. I can empathize because I'd have felt the same way about Hillary representing the worst of the left if she'd have won the election. As a matter of fact, I'd probably be posting every negative news article about her on this very forum if that had happened.
How the literal fuck did those two ever become the only real options for president in 2016? It boggles my mind to this day...
Ah. This is the deep-state argument, right? Also - Most presidents wind up appointing an FBI head during their tenure. It's not somehow a deep-state ploy.
By the way, the two Obama head of FBIs? Yeah. Both life-long Republicans (Mueller and Comey).
Cherry picking any particular situation as an attempt to legitimize a news source is spurious at best. I'm sure any member of this thread could go toe to toe and list the dozens and hundreds of misses by news agencies in an attempt to portray them as "fake news". So either all news is fake, or you have to accept the misses with the hits.
CNN is biased, but as far as the 24/7 cable media market goes, they're probably the closest thing to reliable.
As a side note - I wonder how important this Fishgate was since I'm an avid consumer of news media, and I've never heard of it.

Let's stick to what I said, not a caricature of what I said you are trying to make. I never said anything about a deep state, period.
Comey, who I did refer to, is absolutely no Trump fan but he's certainly an Obama fan. So far in 2018 he's said he "deeply respects" Obama and that Trump is a "small man". Make of that what you will.
Fishgate was important enough for it to be mentioned in this thread and for me to point out CNN's fakery, at least.

I googled 'Fishgate' and I vaguely remember it now. It was a non-story bashing Trump for overfeeding koi on his visit to Japan last year. I think the very fact that this was deemed newsworthy on CNN made them look biased (and I remember thinking that very thing when I heard it discussed seriously back then).

How was that a caricature of what you said? You clearly said that FBI is not a right leaning organization because it was being staffed by "opponents of the right" for the last 8 years. This is the literal and absolutely heart of the deep-state conspiracy: That the previous establishment party (whomever that has been) has placed people in bureaucratic positions so as to subvert the desire of the party in power.
You still havent clarified Fishgate for me. Seriously - mind doing that? I actually did a google search, and didnt hit upon a single seemingly reliable news article about it.
Regarding Comey liking Obama more than Trump. That clearly has nothing to do with political ideology. Turns out serving 3 years without having to investigate your boss makes you like him more than having to start investigations before your next boss is even inaugurated. It's certainly in no way proof of Deep State.
Nice.

Justin is not suppose to stand up for himself. He is suppose to stand up for all Canadians. Canada needs the States more than the States need Canada. Justin cannot be a bully back to Trump, he will lose every time and so will Canadians.

Ooooh. Wait. I think I vaguely remember something like that. I guess I dismissed it so quickly I never realized anyone was actually really reporting it.
I mean yeah. Dont get me wrong. It's a dumb story. Then again, so are the stories/headlines about whatever color suit Obama was wearing, or things like that (CNN was just as guilty as anyone else in reporting on inane crap like that).
Dumb stories are dumb. I dont really think it makes a coherent argument that CNN is suddenly fake, though.
Thanks for the memory jog. I legitimately didnt know what it was.

Clinton's impeachment started from a rumor if I remember correctly.
Wait a minute, the earth isn't flat?

Anyone that tries to deliver justice will be called a partisan. He only wants toadies and loyalists in charge of investigations into him who will find a way to make it where he's not guilty.

I am starting to get the sneaking suspicion that you are a closet fan of Trumps, all the hallmarks are there.
