Jaheira is also interested in the sign of the bear, for she had a kinship with them. The duck creatures, however, were something new. "What perversion of nature is this?" Hopefully, someone would have a solid idea, for she certainly did not.
@Permidion_Stark The ducks quack back in what Alora feels is a friendly fashion. She has no idea what she's saying, but she appears to be having a conversation. She just wishes she knew what she was talking about.
Jaheira approaches the nearest one slowly, one hand outstretched in the hopes that the creatures would see that she means no harm. After all, it was possible that they were, deep in their essences, animal; if so, her own bonds to nature might allow her to interact. "What curious creatures these unidux are." She still wasn't quite sure what she was dealing with, but was going to attempt to learn.
The ducks don't appear to be interested in the chocolate cake, but they rub their beaks on her hand/hands. As for Jaheira, they gently lay their horns against her hands. She gets the same feeling from touching unicorns… but… ducks.
"Ohh, they look so sweet!" Aerie beamed as she shyly motioned toward the unidux. She looks back at Culum. "Do a lot of these creatures live here? And... Are there others like them?"
A mix between a unicorn and a duck was cute, but Aerie couldn't help but wonder what a mix between a bear and a snake would be like. Or a wolf and a squid. Or maybe a fiend and a grasshopper...
She had to suppress a shudder as she thought about it. Aerie had seen many strange things in the circus, but mix-and-matched animal hybrids were certainly not among them. At least, nothing more advanced than a liger.
"I dunno," Culum says. "Sometimes, strange things, monsters and such, just show up out of nowhere." He shrugs. "Everyone blames the Golden Bough druids when they appear in the castle. I s'pose it might be true here as well. But I dunno."
The ducks seem to be attracted to Aerie, laying their horns gently on her body. It feels good, like touching them makes her healthier, at least a little. Their eyes are gentle and serene.
"I'm going to see if there are any more ducks down here," announces Alora as she heads off down the northern corridor.
However, for all her enthusiasm, she is a little worried about what she might find next, so walks slowly and she attempts to hide in the shadows as she goes. She also checks for traps and secret doors.
Jaheira, do you feel anything strange about those ducks? I can't help but wonder, if they are the result of some mages experiments!
"My thinking, as well," Jaheira replied, pleased that this perturbation of nature was disturbing others, as well. "Perhaps, as we delve deeper, we will discover what is responsible for this affront on the balance." Even as she said this, she gave one of the animals a soft stroke down the neck and backbone, between its wings. After all, the animal was not to blame -could not be blamed- in this strange circumstance.
1) The horns are actually attached to the ducks heads, as in, like, growing out of their foreheads, like a unicorn's does. 2) Jaheira cannot sense any inimical magic on the ducks. The duck wiggles happily when she "pets" it. 3) She also gets a sense of lawfulness and goodness from the ducks (i.e. their alignment is Lawful good, just like that of a unicorn.)
Alora finds that, 30' out of the bar room, the corridor splits in two, to the right and left. The right corridor, after another 10', splits in two again. The former "right" corridor becomes more central, while another "right" leading corridor continues.
For purposes of being clear, let's call the corridors, left, center and right for now. Where does Alora go first?
Also, the floor continues to be rather smooth and level, and torches hang from holders on the walls.
Aerie follows Alora, hoping to keep the halfling out of trouble and give her some company. She calls to everyone else over her shoulder, "This way, everyone! We must not lose sight of each other!"
OOC: Tomorrow I am going on a trip for the company I work at. I hope that I'll be able to get online tomorrow evening, but have no idea if there is WLAN. Worst case scenario: I won't be able to participate for the next few days, only returning friday, close to midnight (GMT+1). I have left some notes for LadyRhian on how to handle Jan. I really hope this won't be necessary. Have fun guys! @Permidion_Stark , you have a PM.

What manner of creature is that?
Alora tries to overcome her fears and quacks at the ducks, in what she hopes is a friendly fashion.
Alora quacks more enthusiastically and then offers the ducks some chocolate cake.

Let's go down whichever tunnel they came out of and see if there are any more!

Alora whispers to Anomen: "I'm trying to be stealthy and having you clanking about and breathing down my neck isn't really helping."
Edit - OOC: I just realised Anoen is breathing down Aerie's neck not Alora's!
