OOC: Jaheira reaches for a sword, almost grasping it despite the reddish tinge surrounding it. Her hand cannot clasp the hilt, and a loud bonking sound is heard all around. Aerie experiences much the same thing. Neither are able to wield this thing, called a sword - though Jaheira can, provided it's curved. Aerie can, provided it is a miniature giant space hamster sword (dagger). Nobody knows why...
Arkanis give a sigh, as he sees the halfling girl stubbornly goes after her own's way and continues the descending through the trapdoor. "Oh youngsters. They're always in such a hurry." He get out his metal flask, drink a little, than goes after the girls, humming some lilt: "Cause there ain't no rest for the righteous. Gotta try and do the right thing! hmm-hmm-hmm-hmmm..."
Down the stairs… (Sorry, I fell asleep shortly after coming home and eating dinner. :P)
Not only is there a staircase leading down, but it has a handrail! on either side… At the bottom of the stairs, built into the wall, is a wooden guardhouse with barred windows and a shelf at (human-size) elbow height with a slot just above it. On the guardhouse is a sign. "Adult Admission- 3 coppers. Children under 12- Free!"
Beyond this guardhouse is a passage 30' long which you can see widen out into a natural cavern at that point. Or, somewhat more natural, anyway. The floor is smooth and almost level, as if it has been worked somewhat from its original state.
Normally, Aerie would have been made uncomfortable being below ground. But this is so strange- a mix of nature and (presumably human) work that it wicks away most of the discomfort with being trapped away from the sky and air above. She's never quite had this sensation before.
"Gaw!" Culum says from behind you all. "Is this what a dungeon looks like?"
Realizing the strange mix between nature and man beneath the ground, as well as the mysteriously empty guard house, Aerie decided it would be best to voice her feelings. She may be far from the most seasoned and wise adventurer of the group, but even she knew that this was no ordinary dungeon.
(OOC: So essentially she repeats what LadyRhian described up above so everyone in-character is in the know. Also, I'm going to sleep. Night!)
Alora leaves the money anyway and heads off to the cavern in the hope of finding some sort of fun fair or carnival. "Maybe they will have an exploding ogre. I heard of one place that had an exploding ogre but I never saw it myself."
Jan quitly picks up the money Alora just left there and puts the copper pieces in his pockets for safe keeping.
Jan stops for a moment to expect the guardhouse and see if he can get in there somehow to search for anything interesing that may have been left inside. At the same time he is trying to watch out for any traps that might be there (as good as he can).
Fears such as that is nothing to be ashamed of Aerie. It is only natural for one such as yourself. If it gets worse do not hesitate to speak up, and we'll see what we can do.
And Gnome, don't do that. It is private property and needs to be respected.
She was an imbecilic child! There was no other way to describe the behavior of the Halfling, who certainly looked the part, as well. Regardless, Jaheira certainly had better things to attend to. This should, for instance, seem a lot more threatening than it did. In fact, it aside from the bratling, Calum, who'd claimed his father had disappeared here, there was no reason to think this worth their trouble. "He's probably in a corner, with some foul drink and a cheap strumpet," she muttered.
"At least somebody has sense," she told Jan, as she passed by him. After all, she had to keep the snips in balance with kind words, as this was important to her. "Come, husband," she called over his shoulder, though not quite as kindly.
Jaheira looked at him as if he'd sprouted a turnip from his forehead. Didn't he realize that she'd just complimented him? Apparently, his small stature included a correspondingly small intellect, which was a shame. Her guess was, with the exception of Aerie, the rest of the group together (sadly, this included Khalid) made a half-wit. "Urgh," she harrumphed, for she was running to the end of her patience with the lot of them.
OOC: Since there are no dislike buttons, all Jaheira's likes for Alora are to be seen as the reversal of the spell. And she can't read this because we're not speaking.
Honestly, this is a disclaimer: Jaheira's opinions are what I (the writer) think she (the character) would do/say and not me criticizing any of you for your playing style, characterization, or writing. If it seems that way, please let me or @LadyRhian know, because I'd be really sad if I ruined this game for anybody - don't let me do that, please! -bri aka reedmilfam aka Jaheira...
This is one of my theories confirmed, thanks Anomen.
OOC: @reedmilfam it's OK, continue as you feel is right! I just hope Jaheira won't loose her patience completely and go away. That's why Jan is hesitant to engage with her: I (as a writer) don't want to loose one of our clerics.

OOC: I love the fact everyone is playing their characters to the hilt. That's the best bit of it for me. And Jaheria needn't worry, it won't take long for Alora to forget that she isn't supposed to be talking to her.
Fears such as that is nothing to be ashamed of Aerie. It is only natural for one such as yourself. If it gets worse do not hesitate to speak up, and we'll see what we can do.

OOC: Aw, Ano does have a heart. (Or is he just being nice to make himself look good? CONSPIRACY.)
Of all the reactions Aerie had considered for speaking up, getting a reassurance from Anomen was not one of them. What did he mean by "only natural for one such as yourself"? Ah well, she did herself no favors by dwelling on the ill when the rest of his words were kind. She smiled a little and nodded, and despite herself, blushed a little. Maybe this self-proclaimed knight wasn't as bad as she first thought.
Jaheira moves quickly to grab the human child's shoulder. "You cannot travel with the group," she told him. "Until we've made it safe. What do you know of this place?" She couldn't risk harm coming to him, but wanted to learn as much as she could, before they delved too deeply.
Ordinarily, she would shrug off this entire endeavor, but that was before the area's troubles began. Since something in the area had clearly thrown off nature's balance, she wanted to be extra cautious. After all, carefree adventurers tended to quickly become dead ones.
The corridor leads down to a chamber with gray fitted-stone walls and a finely polished limestone floor. A few reddish brown stalactites and stalagmites protrude from the ceiling and floor, proving that this was a natural stone chamber. In the center of the room are four pinewood tables, each surrounded by five stools. Against the northern wall is an elbow-high counter. Two beer taps are built into the counter and a recessed stone fireplace (currently empty) is built into the wall behind it.
A sign above the counter reads as follows: Ale, Pixie Mug 10 Coppers Peasant Mug, 1 Silver Jumbo Mug, 2 Silver Monsterburger, 1 silver Full Tour- Free!
Three small passages lead out of the chamber to the north, east and south. The passage to the south bears a sign showing the profile of some kind of sea serpent on it. A similar plaque to the north shows the visage of a bear. The passage to the east (the one you came from) bears a sign reading "Exit"
Other exits from this room include a wooden door set into the southern wall and a large natural passage leading to the west. A plaque mounted next to this exit reads, "This way to the tremendous monster of gigantic proportions!"
Alora is tempted to go down the corridor with the bear on it but instead decides to wait for everyone to catch up. While she is waiting she will search the room for traps and secret doors, starting with the counter and the stone fireplace.
She will then listen at the wooden door and check it for traps and to see if it is locked. If it is locked she will attempt to pick the lock.
She will also study the plaque and see if there is anything behind it (checking for traps as she does so).
The Guardhouse is just an empty wooden box, with a small box, probably to hold money, but it's all empty right now.
Alora finds several drawers filled with rotting vegetables (mostly tomatoes and onions), three sizes of mugs, 20 napkins, 10 sets of cutlery. You also find a hidden drawer with 53 silver pieces and 110 copper pieces. There is a crate next to the fireplace, which has a grate on top of it. The crate holds coal. There are no people around, and no sign anyone has been here.
The door is unlocked. It leads to a small T-shaped corridor with two doors, one at each end of the T. One has a plaque of a barbarian silhouette, the other a plaque showing a woman in a flowing dress. None of the plaques are trapped- they are firmly bolted into the wall.
As you stand in the room, you hear a loud quacking noise. Four ducks, each with a spiral horn growing out of its forehead, waddle into the room. They see you and quick at you.
Jaheira and Minsc, both of whom know nature, have never seen anything like these before…
OOC: the scenery really reminds me of Stephen Kings "Dark Tower" series. The abandoned underground facility, tunnels that lead to different animals (including a bear)... Great adventure so far! Has Jan caught up with everyone else? Is Culum actually following us around?

"Gaw!" Culum says from behind you all. "Is this what a dungeon looks like?"
"Seven adults please," she says (because she is a very law-abiding sort of Halfling thief) and puts the money in for everyone except Jaheira.
"Aerie please tell Jaheira that she's not in my party anymore so she has to pay for herself."
Alora then hurries off to see what the cavern looks like. "Do you think there are rides? I think there might be rides. I do hope there are rides."

It is some form of amusement for the lesser bred. Probably a dog fighting pit ot something else as corrupted.
