Alora, whistling to herself in an I'm-not-doing-anything, really-I'm-not sort of way, readies her sling.
"Ajantis," she whispers to her fellow paladin, "Do you think it looks like the kind of monster that has a lot of treasure? Or is it just one of those boring monsters that just try to kill you and you don't get anything for it?"
Alora starts humming a merry little ditty to herself:
"Brave Sir Robin ran away Bravely ran away away When danger reared its ugly head He bravely turned his tail and fled Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about And gallantly he chickened out Bravely taking to his feet He beat a very brave retreat Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!"
ouch... why are we standing around here? The creature is probably waiting for this steam to cook us before devouring our corpses. Lets leave this beast be and make a quick retreat.
Alora follows muttering to herself. She doesn't approve of running away from danger. Especially when you haven't established whether danger has got any treasure.
The creature allows you to retreat. You return around the lake and find a thin ledge leading down. For here, you can one against look down and over the plain to the snake-live river, island and the winking glow that makes the "snake" almost look alive.
You see two bird-shapes silhouetted against the sky. For a moment, you cringe, expecting the Rocs to have returned, but these are much smaller, if still predatory. The hawks call cries of warning against the sky.
In the world of her dreams, the birds caw reached her.
More of them. Aerie followed their gazes to the sky, fingers curled tightly around her staff. So many winged creatures flying through the air while I'm chained on the ground, doomed to rot.
It wasn't fair. Being here, out in the wilderness, crippled by steaming water, freezing ice, long hikes, and monsters, after monsters, after wing-gifted gods-cursed monsters.
Twist. The knife buried ever deeper into her soul. For the first time in hours, something burned in the pits of Aerie's core. A feeling, beyond the heavy despair that loomed over her like a scythe. It wasn't fair, what these beasts put her through.
It just.
Wasn't.
Fair.
Without thinking, rage pumping through her, Aerie pulled out her sling, picked a stone off the ground, and slid it into the weapon's holster.
She stepped aside for a better shot, and fired at the birds.

The creature rises out of the water and hangs in mid-air, glaring at you.

"Brave Sir Robin ran away

Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly he chickened out
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!"
"Stones! That was hotter than what i hoped for! Let's get moving."
