"Helm, of course. The Vigilant One, The Great Guard, The Watcher. If you're interested I would be glad to share more about him. In fact, once we get back to civilization the church can offer an introductory sermon for lay persons such as yourself. It can be life changing, I assure you."
Is there something to burn near the cave? (In a half hour walk perimeter) If there is, i ask Ajantis to help and bring some, if not i suggest to give something warm and fuzzy to Alora to get on instead her wet clothes and move on.
Arkanis gives his flask to Alora "Here, drink some from this, it makes you less frozen."
OOC: Too bad we don't have any fur pelts. Alora could become a barbarian! Then all she'd need would be a club and a pet unicorn.
UNI! (yes, I did watch the cartoon back when it was first on... I have all the episodes on DVD, too.
Alora dries off a bit, and you continue through the cave. After a mile, it exits out into the sunshine. Once again, you have a perfect view down the mountain, of the lake and the island.
From the end of the tunnel, you can go straight or to the left.
OOC: A naked halfling, a drunken dwarf, two pious knights, an opinionated druid, a mad ranger, a wild mage, and a wingless avariel walked into a wood...
OOC: One pious knight, one blowhard wanna be so-called knight, an AWESOME druid, a nutcase barbarian like sort of ranger idiot, a crazy mage, a whiny elf girl and the tiniest naked paladin in the u-verse...
OOC: I personally think we could use more tiny, adorable, naked paladin girls but that just- WAIT DID YOU JUST CALL AERIE WHINY /tackles Jaheira to the ground. Anyway, back to in character:
"Sooooo, where are we supposed to be going? I mean we were supposed to deliver a thing, correct?"
The opinions of the character do not reflect those of the author. Any similarity with persons, real or imagined (and not in Baldur's Gate) is coincidental...
OOC: Happy Christmas everyone. I've done lots of these adventures but this is my favourite one so far. Special thanks to LadyRhian for making it possible.
Okay, you go left! This is a small path by the lake... Suddenly, the ground which looked so firm and safe only a moment before, tilts violently to one side sending you sliding towards the dark, cold waters of the lake.
You scramble to stay on the bank, and only Minsc falls in, drenching Aerie and Neera (and Boo), but the rest of you keep your feet. The lake at this point is only three feet deep, but there is something in the water, what looks like a hobgoblin, but its skin is green, with blue-green hair and gill slits in its neck. It carries a spear and pokes Minsc hard in the side, as if seeing if he's edible... (Minsc takes 5 points damage).
Anomen, thinking quickly, hits the green hobgoblin with his spear, hurting it badly. It looks like it might try to run. Alora strikes at it and misses. Minsc, off balance, also misses. Ajantis misses, then Arkanis strikes it with his Axe, putting it out of its misery. It falls back into the water, stone dead.
It is wearing strangely decorated gold armbands, three on each arm (worth 20gp each), his spear is made of bone inlaid with mother of pearl (worth 40gp), and he wears a silver ring on one finger (worth 10gp) and on his belt is a small silver charm in the shape of a writhing snake (worth 1gp).
Leaving the others to loot the corpse, Alora is going to put her armour back on. Even if it is still a bit soggy it will be better than nothing and she will rely on her egg fragments to keep her warm.
Looking at the charm, Jaheira realizes it almost perfectly mimics not only the snake from the piece of copper you found, but also the shape of the "snake" island of river, lake and island.
You cross an ice bridge above the lake, and are now on the north side of the ice lake. The snowy path arcs to the north, around a spur of the lake.
There is a faint sound, like rush water at a great depth. At first you can barely hear it, but it rises steadily and then bursts into an explosive whoosh as a cloud of steam bellows out from a side valley some distance ahead. The noise and steam continue for almost a full moment and then stop abruptly.
An evanescent warmth lingers in the air for a few minutes, before being erased by an lingering chill.
"Behold the power of nature," Jaheira exclaimed, as it was far more evident (and real) than the so-called Helm and others. Silly human nonsense, that, she reasoned, while Silvanus was revealed throughout.
"Of course it did," Jaheira agreed, speaking almost as if she were teaching an infant. For, in her mind, he was mentally that. "And some good. It is the balance."
You keep walking. The geyser erupts about every 10 minutes.
As you get nearer the top of the spur, you can see that no ice or snow clings to the side of this short, rocky gully. Here, the air is warm and steamy, heated by a bubbling pool of water barely 20 yards away. Half-submerged in the pool, enveloped in steam, a grey, winged creature glares at you threateningly.
