Swilbosh moves to the floor by a carving of a what looks like a rabbit with a horn. He sticks his claws under the flagstone and levers it up. Inside is a small leather bag. He hands it to you. Inside is an Emerald. Alora assessed it and figured it was worth almost 1000gp.
Furrowing her brow, Jaheira said, "I thought those were mythical," meaning the horned rabbit. It was called Al'mir'aj, but she'd always thought the unnatural being to be a figment of imagination.
"Fair exchange is no robbery," intones Alora, who is trying very hard not to break into her happy dance. She edges away from Anomen and stands behind Minsc in case the want-to-be paladin starts to get all huffy (again).
Ajantis frowns. "I don't believe this creature is aware of that gem's value, Alora."
"But I don't know how much the lump of wood was worth. It might be a really rare bit of wood. It could be that he's ripping me off and its actually worth two emeralds not one. And you have to take sentimental value into account. The statue has got sentimental value for him and emeralds have sentimental value for me. So it all evens out really." Alora avoids Ajantis's gaze and hides behind Minsc.
Swilbosh nods and moves back to the table and goes back to carving after placing the returned statue amidst the others. Hearing what Jaheira says, he remarks. "Is not myth. Is living in valley. All animals in statues are."
Hearing that, you can see that you have already encountered the Muckdwellers and the Blood Hawk he carved. Also among them are hobgoblins, snakes, crows, deer, a hedgehog, a bat, two dogs, and a three horned rabbits.
OOC: I'm not sure what the scaly fellow is up to, but maybe we can use his knowledge to our advantage.
"Swilbosh, you seem to know a lot about the creatures in this area. Could you tell use the best way to reach civilization, or a human city of some sort? Perhaps you might have a map we could use?"
Swilbosh thinks this over for a few minutes. "No human cities near. Closest is town. That way." He waves a vague hand to the southeast. "Never been there. Humans see me, try to kill me. Is better live here. Much wood for carving, many creatures to carve."
"Dwarf ghost scare away anything intelligent. Few of that type come here, and then no more after they see ghost."

OOC: Wow Anomen was the only one scared. Just shows the intelligence of this group
You return upstairs, and from there, out to the marshy grass that surrounds this place. From here, you can see a dark shadow on the rock face to the north. It looks like it might be an opening in the cliff.
Ajantis turns for one last look at the dwarven ghost, "I guess we'll never know the reason for such a lonely vigil. Who can fathom the tortured motivations of those damned to walk in death?"

We do not need payment to return something to its rightful owner. But tell me good sir, what do you know of the dwarven spirit that walks above you?
This is not why we are here.

And has anyone got a theory as to what Swilbosh is doing here? Alora isn't smart enough to work it out. And sadly nor am I.

Neera breaks from her strange quit behavior that's plagued her for the past few moments.
"Hopefully a way to civilization that doesn't involve dragons, orcs, or the occasional carrion crawler would be preferred."
