Alora hears nothing from the door on the left (west). It does not appear to be trapped. The door to the right is also not trapped, but inside, she can hear a soft sort of slapping noise. It starts and stops in irregular fits.
Sorry, missed this earlier. Treasure on the bodies.
Searching the bodies reveals the following. The first body has a belt pouch (now ruined and stained with blood) with 5 gp inside. The mage's robe has a concealed pocket holding a pouch with 8 buds of garlic and 2 gp. The dwarf and the first berserker are completely stripped, and the last guard has the dagger.
Aerie will have to remove the sword from the mage's body. Will she do so? (I am assuming she is trying to lay out the bodies decently. If not, let me know.)
::Laughs.:: Okay. She pulls the sword out. Behind the mage, his blood has soaked into a wooden plaque laid into the wall. The plaque is carved with carved with the word "Quasqueton" in elegant, fluid lettering.
OOC: Dibs on the war hammer unless Arkanis is proficient.
*Picks up the war hammer admiring it and then attaching it to his belt*
A fine weapon if its handy work says so.
*Looking at the poor chap who got the receiving end of it*
Alora, please listen carefully. The blood trail leads into this place. These men were probably looters and ran into something hostile which brought any items they took back in. Lets not end up like them and just look for these magical springs.
Who knows how many people searched out this place and found a similar fate by listening to locals claiming it was abandoned.
Alora gives Anomen a hard stare: "I am looking for the magical springs. I'm looking for them just as much as you are."
Alora moves to the back of the group and readies her sling for the fight against the troglodytes. However, she will not attack unless things look bad (for fear of hitting members of her party)
OOC: +1 point to Permidion_Stark for knowing it's a troglodyte! They were from 1e and not as "popular" as orcs, gnolls, goblins, Bugbears or Kobolds.
The creatures hiss at the party, and Jan gets off a shot from his crossbow, piercing one of the two things through the chest. It yowls in pain, claws its chest and sinks to the ground, blood flowing copiously from its mouth. Anomen spears the other in the eye, killing it in a single blow.
Panting in the aftermath of this unexpected combat, you can now look around the room. It seems that this room served as a dining area for the inhabitants of the complex. Two long tables are flanked by long benches, while a number of other tables and chairs are scattered about the room. The room is approximately 50' by 20' at its longest point, but the room is irregularly shaped, and the southern side runs around a corner.
The walls and floor are of wood, and various decorative patterns have been carved into the walls, giving the room almost an elegant air. The wood rises most of the way up the wall, but at about 8' height, the black slate, here roughly polished, makes a reappearance.
At the far end of the room are two huge wooden chairs that appear almost like thrones. They appear to be carved from decorative cedar wood, and attached to the wall via a dais. The wood is being attacked by a greenish mold in several places, and the whole room has a rather musty, almost mildewed odor to it. Several tables and chairs appear to have been knocked over, and the room itself is in a chaotic, messy state.
You see something metallic glinting from under an overturned table. Perhaps a serving platter or dish? It's impossible to tell from your current position outside the door.
Alora will cautiously enter the room. She will use her mirror to check there is nothing lurking on the wall above the door ready to fall on her. She will then creep into the room, checking for traps, and look round the corner on the other side to see if there is anything hiding there.
When she is sure there are no more enemies she will have a look at the metallic object under the table.
OOC: I'm just dropping back in to apologise for just dropping out and going silent. I mostly browsed these forums on my phone, and a few weeks (months?) back there was a change of design of the mobile site version that made the site next to impossible to browse on my phone. So I pretty much drifted away from this place, and has only been back a few times since then.
I'm also sorry for not coming back and telling you sooner. It slipped my mind. Anyway. Happy midsummer, folks. Don't get eaten by grues!
@scriver - Jaheira will make Khalid pay at some point! Maybe send him to investigate an upstart mage named Irenicus...
Jaheira maintains her shield at the ready, looking toward each of the entrances to the space in an alternating fashion. She had no wish to end up like the bodies at the beginning and no longer had Khalid's sword to guard her flanks. "I've had too much time, in doors, of late," she grumbled. "This place has an air most foul"
OOC: I'm sorry to say, I can't participate anymore. Work has gotten the best of me (is that even correct english?) We could pretend Jan stayed at the castle, resting after the first adventure, eventually ready to rejoin the party in the future. Or he got fraimed for speculating with illegal imports, which was totally unfair and he was so absolutely innocent of it, still had to be arrested...
OOC: @cyberhawk - Sorry to lose you. I enjoyed having a partner in crime (even if we never did get round to actually stealing anything). Hope to see you back when work is less hectic.
OOC: Sorry for the delay. I fell down and badly bruised my ribs on my right side. :P
Okay, anyone else want to join? Time to bring in @Vallmyr….
Alora is able to discover that the thing under the debris is a shield, round and medium-size. It seems in good shape despite having been lost for so long.
There is a sudden flash, and suddenly a young elven woman with a pink cast to her hair has appeared in the middle of the room. Stepping in a bit of debris, she stumbles a bit.
"You're...in the middle of the cavern..." Aerie stared flabbergasted at the mage who'd just appeared in the center of the wreckage. "I'm sorry, who are you? How did you get here?"
"I am apprentice- *cough* I mean, I am Archmage Neera! I, um, am a master wizard! So you better not try and mess with me! Though, if we could be friends I would like that as well," Neera looks around the room to see who all is there before continuing, "and how I got here. . . well I was supposed to be casting a darkness spell and then I sort of just ended up here."
Neera sighs before nervously saying, "I suppose magic can just be wild sometimes. . . So who are all of you? Adventurers?"

Alora will check to see if the door to the right is locked. She will then call up the rest of the party.
OOC: We need a battle formation when opening doors. Alora will retreat to the back and leave the fighters to go in first.
They are surprised. I will roll combat when I get home.

Jaheira advances to block the door, utilizing her shield for maximum protection, and her club ready to bash the skulls of her attackers.

Cue @Vallmyr!
"Ah-hah! I did it! I cast the darkness spell everyone!. . . guys?"
Neera reaches into her cloak and draws a small teal colored stone. It begins to shine brightly throughout the room.
"Er. . . did I accidentally summon people again? I'm real sorr- wait where am I?"
Neera sighs before nervously saying, "I suppose magic can just be wild sometimes. . . So who are all of you? Adventurers?"
Perhaps you could replace that gnomish fellow who left to grow turnips outside of the keep.
Can't have too many responsible mages in the party.
@cyberhawk You really made me feel I was playing with Jan in the group... Here, this is for you. You'll be missed
@Cyberhawk Here's hoping you'll "Turnip" again later!
