"I'm only going to take a look at it. I'm not going to take anything. Probably."
Alora also ha a bad feeling that this must be some kind of trap or maybe even an illusion but she has to know. She will approach very cautiously, checking for traps and will draw her shortsword and stir the gold with the point to see if there is anything lurking there.
OOC: I see that @LadyRhian has agreed with all the comments that this is a trap. Unfortunately, Alora won't know that. I think she might be about to come to a sticky end . . .
Alora creeps closer, followed by Neera. Alora finds no traps, but when she touches the gold, the entire thing blinks out like a popped soap Bubble. The area this revealed, ends in a trapezoid shape, making the corridor about 37 feet long. The last 7 or so feet flares out from the 10' wide corridor/room into an almost triangular shape. The wall here is blackened and pitted, as if someone used this area to practice throwing fire spells (Fireball, maybe?). The floor looks partially melted and deformed.
"Awwww. Too good to be true as always. Not sure why anyone would do this. Maybe the rulers of this keep were evil and wanted to try and trick innocent 'treasure hunters' such as ourselves."
"Whoever lived here was just mean! What kind of person puts a trap on an empty drawer, keeps a carrion crawler in their wardrobe and leaves pretend gold and gems lying around? A horrible mean person that's who."
Alora stomps off back to the bedroom and then heads down the western passage, paying precious little attention to the possibility of traps, wandering monsters or anything else for that matter.
"Alora," Jaheira said, trying to comfort her. "Surely, whomever went to all this trouble is merely hiding something better for you to uncover." The girl had an affinity for treasure, yet hadn't found much, to this point.
DM Sez- So far, the party has found a Shield, a Spear, a Warhammer, 267 gold, and 8 buds of garlic. And, nobody has died. Not bad for about 2 hours of work!
Alora heads west. Soon, she comes back to the corridor near to where you entered, from here, you can go south (back to the entrance), north (deeper into the complex, or southwest (which is also deeper in- only in a different direction…) There is a door, even further to the south and west, directly across from the door to the dining hall you entered.
Also, again, there are other directions you can go near the entrance. And again, remember that Ajantis has learned this place is full of secret doors… good places to hide interesting stuff, neh?
"It seems as good a course as any," Jaheira replied. It had the added benefit of taking them toward the natural out-of-doors, but she didn't think any of the others saw this as being all that important. She, however, preferred to be closer to the outdoors, and hoped that this venture would take them there soon.
Alora gets over her huff and starts to feel happy again. "Isn't this fun Anomen, all of us together, looking for treasure?"
She starts looking for traps and hidden doors again. She follows Aerie's advice and heads back towards the entrance so they can choose a path not yet taken.
"I'm sure the others can tell you more but Jan told me they are on a mission to assemble the great water elemental, Fwooshswooshgurgle. He was, as I'm sure you know, divided long ago by the evil wizard Flushinki into more than a hundred smaller bodies of water. It is said that if an adventurer can gather samples of all those waters and speak the correct arcane phrase at a moment of perfect cosmic alignment an avatar of Fwooshswooshgurgle will appear and grant a boon. It all gets a bit hazy after that, but Jan assured me the waters will at least provide an increase in turnip yields for years to come. Apparently, that's a good thing."
Ajantis looks around at the incredulous expressions. "Well, that's what he told me, anyway."
"Fwooshswooshgurgle? Hm. . . that name sounds familiar. I think I might of summoned him one time when I was trying to use my magic to light a campfire. Needless to say Water Elementals do not make good campfires."
Okay, you are back at the site of the massacre near the entrance. From here, you went north a bit, then east. You can also go straight north, North and west, or West, or East (South leads back out of the entrance). If you go East or West, they do both turn to the South.

@kcwise - I love this. If Beamdog haven't already got you writing banters for future projects they really should get you on board!
Alora heads north. 110' from the entrance steps, the corridor turns to the east. 80' to the east, there is a single door to the north. The corridor continues to the east for another 30' beyond, and turns north again, then east again 10' later, which you can see from where the door is.
Alora listens at the door. It is neither locked nor trapped, nor is there any sounds from within. @Permidion_Stark...
When the rest of the party catches up, Alora opens the door. This is a 20' wide by (mostly) 30' long room with an extra section 10' by 20' long attached at the northeastern end. The room is empty of any furniture or objects, anything that would tell you what the room was used for.
Walking inside, Alora feels a hollow section under her foot, and after some tapping and prying, is able to open it. Inside is a beautiful olive-green gem, a peridot, worth about 500 gp, she estimates.

"Ooh, shiny! Look everyone I found I found a really pretty gem!"
Once everyone has had a chance to admire the stone Alora will tap all the walls, floors (and ceiling if Anomen will lend her his spear) checking for more secret doors. She will pay particular attention to the 10' by 20' section. If she finds nothing she will going down the corridor to the east. If she comes to a corner she will use her mirror to check that nothing is lurking around it.
There are no more hollow sections or secret doors in the room. Alora goes around the corner, and finds the corridor jagging north and east again, then dead-ending at a door to the north. But… as she is about to stelp on it, she gets a BAD premonition… and stops dead. Her eyes pick out lines in the floor and she realizes she is about to set foot on a giant pit trap in the floor, one that is 10' wide and 20' long. Whatever is behind the door to the north is too far away to reach, and there is nowhere else to go from here.

Neera watches to see if anyone steps forward, if they do she'll join them.

Other than that, this area is empty.

"I think we should head back to the entrance, and explore the other directions we did not follow. What does everyone else think?"
Alora, Anomen: 570 each
Ajantis, Neera: 92 each.

"By the way, why are we looking for these magical pools?"

@Permidion_Stark, where do you wish to lead? Or will @Nonnahswriter make that decision?

Hasn't Sir Keldorn mentored you in how to avoid decievement?
