"What use is a cat in a jar? If I find an animal, trapped in a jar, I'll kill the bastard what done it!" Jaheira was trying to keep her temper under wraps, but this... this... was too much.
OOC: I've got a jar of cat. I've got a jar of caa-aat. Guess what's inside it!
OOC: When my Cat is doing "Boxhab", sometimes I'll pick it up and start singing, "I've got a box of Bay-bee. I've got a box of love…" over and over while my cat gives me the "What you talkin' 'bout, Willis?" look.
Aerie undoes the twine and plucks out the cork. The liquid inside evaporates instantly, and the kitten jumps out of the wide neck of the jar and onto the floor. It shakes itself all over and looks at Aerie and Neera. In moments, it seems to make a decision and bounds towards Neera, purring like mad. As it does so, Neera feels a wave of warmth and gratitude (and love) flow from the cat to her.
Congratulations! Neera has acquired a familiar. She now has an extra 4 hp, access to low-light vision and superior hearing (and balance). (No mechanical advantages on that last one, though.
The Cat is black, with eyes of bright green. Not a single splotch of white mars its fur.
Meanwhile, Anomen, oblivious to everything going on, finds five more containers that he can fill with water/fluid from the healing pool. He also finds a container of fruit wine that doesn't seem to have suffered at all in the interim since it was bottled.
OOC: Boo Says, "WHAT?!" Seriously, though, Neera's familiar can control itself. All familiars can. As long as she feeds it, it won't hunt. Or unless she deliberately sends it after Boo… She may be Chaotic Neutral, but I doubt she'd do it for "Shits and gigs" as they say.
"I think I might become a wizard, then I could have a familiar too. I think I'd like a bunny rabbit or maybe a baby bear or some ducks."
Alora sighs, knowing that the chances of her becoming a magic user are rather slim. She turns her attention to the door. "If everyone is ready I think we should keep exploring," she says.
Okay. North through the door (shall I assume that Arkanis snags the fruit wine? )
This room is 40' long (east-west) by 30' wide (north-south). This one also resembles a lab, but more one of biology than chemistry (to be fair, that's here as well). an articulated humanoid skeleton, strung together with wire, hangs from the ceiling in the northeast corner of the room. It's huge enough to be an Orc, but the lack of fangs marks it as merely human. Several wooden tables, and another one of large stone, all similar to that of the first room, occupy the place, but this stone table has a stoppered, seemingly empty flask atop it. Similar to the cat's flask, the stopper is of cork.
One of the wooden tables has a stack of logs under it, similar to firewood. Across the Western wall is a rack, like that of a torture chamber, no, exactly like that of a torture chamber, complete with bloodstains. it is sized to accept human bodies. It is made of Oak wood.
On the wall where you entered is a stretched piece of skin with some kind of writing on it. No one in the party can understand it.
The center of the room is dominated by a sunken fire pit, filled with ashes, blackened and cold. A black iron bracing and bar in front of it suspends a pot over the pit. A second pot, not as deep, lies near to the pit. Both are made of the same black iron.
Off in the southwestern corner of the room are two huge open vats, empty, and a smaller one filled with a murky liquid. The empty ones could probably hold 100 gallons or so of liquid. A stone block near the vats holds a collection of glassware and earthenware containers, similar to those in the room you just left. All of them have dust on the sides.
In the northwest corner of the room is a coffin propped mostly upright. Some of the wood appears to be rotting in places. Near the coffin along the north wall are two wooden kegs, untapped. One is marked "UT", the second, "SD". The UT one is more of a hand-keg (about 3-4 gallons worth), while "SD" might hold about 50 gallons or so.
Also on the north wall is more shelving holding glassware and three Earthen containers. Two small lacquered trays hold colored powders, and as soon as you get near them, the smell gives away that they are incense.
Oops gently pats Neera's cheek with a velvety paw, its body nearly shaking with the force of its purr.
(For some reason, this reminds me of the end of the "Murder, She Purred: A Mrs. Murphy Mystery" movie starring Ricki Lake and the voices of Blythe Danner and Anthony Clark. Linden Ashby (aka Johnny Cage from the original Mortal Kombat movie) moves in next door the night someone is murdered and "Harry" (aka Mary Minor Harristeen, Ricki Lake's character) and her pets investigate the death and the new neighbor. The conceit being the animals in the movie can talk, but only to other animals. All the humans hear is meows, barks, etc.
At the end of the movie, she gives him a small black kitten for a pet and asks him what he'll name it. He looks at it, grins, and says, "Snowball!" and the kitten looks at Harry's Cat and Dog and says, "Is he Crazy?"
"Oooh, this is pretty scary. I think some bad things have happened in this place."
Alora will be vary careful about this place as she has a bad feeling that something nasty may be lurking in the coffin, the kegs or the cauldrons.
The first thing she does is to copy the writing on the skin into the back of her exercise book in the hope that she will later be able to find someone who can translate it.
She will then turn her attention to the "seemingly empty" flask on top of the stone table. She looks very closely at it, trying to see if it contains an invisible cat.
@Permidion_Stark It's a *very* old published module. B1, "In Search of the Unknown". The first published one.
OOC: That means I may have played it way back in the mists of time. But the good thing is, if I did, I don't remember a single thing about it. It all seems really exciting and new.
@Permidion_Stark It's set up so that you can change the monsters and treasures you find each and every time. It has no set encounters or monsters. All that stays the same is the layout of the Dungeon and the static (i.e. non-monster and treasure contents) of the room.

OOC: That might explain why I don't remember anything. Or it could just be the memory is going . . .
"I can't see anything in this flask. D'you think I should open it to make sure it is empty? But if I do the thing that might not be in it might get out and we won't know if it has because we won't be able to see it."
"Ajantis... Before we do anything rash, mayhaps you could search for any evil in the room?"
Aerie's gaze swept the chamber, ruefully lingering on the coffin, the torture rack, and the human skin.
"Any living evil, that is..." For she knew as well as the rest that many atrocities were performed here, and captured those horrific moments within its walls.
Not unlike a haunting, Aerie could not help but think as she grasped her holy symbol tighter.
"If no one is going to stop me I am going to take the stopper out of the empty flask." Alora announces. "I just want to make sure that whatever I think isn't in it really isn't in it."

Arkanis watches Anomem's inspection with inquisitive looks, while he is concerned with the fruit wine bottles. "That's looks interesting!"
"What will you call him or is it a her?" she asks Neera.
OOC: Boo will not be amused at this recent addition to the party.
Alora sighs, knowing that the chances of her becoming a magic user are rather slim. She turns her attention to the door. "If everyone is ready I think we should keep exploring," she says.
"I think Oops is a wonderful name!"
Neera hugs the kitty.
"Don't worry little guy. No evil wizards will put you or I in any more Jars!"

Alora really wants to open the flask . . .

*Anomen, after searching for practical treasure, not pets in he room hands Arkanis the bottle of wine.*
It is yours my friend.
*Once he reaches the creepy room, he draws his mace and shield and listens intently*
