An NPC who may or may not be recruitable. But who will somehow send the party to another dimension thus explaining why bg2 takes place a year after bg1.
I refuse to have Irenicus be charnames capturer and torturer for a whole year and have all the time pretended him/her and the NPC'S doing something fruitful and exiting in that time

Although this can be a good idea, this thread is more about a new party member and his class from your opinion.
Well it should be some sort of kit not seen before.
We have both a vampire, drows, and a bear so why not a duegar. On the other hand if recruitable it must be someone neutral to fit in with all alignments.
But definitely someone who is not a human or elf/half elf. Those we have in plenty.

If we have a Duergar then he/she needs to be good just for the hell of it.
Cleric that will appear in BG2. Nearly every party I've made in BG2 has Viconia or Anomen in it and that combination is getting old, I'm ready for some new content. The game has more than enough fighter types -- it needs more clerics and thieves.

Try Cernd. I've finally decided to use him and he is a great primary healer.
I think a Wizard Slayer NPC would be pretty neat. A non-blade bard would be welcome also.
Going with the goblin suggestion, a goblin wizard-slayer going up against Irenicus would be WAY too cool! Of course, assuming this Adventure Y NPC would also be available in BG2EE.
Female Gnome or Dwarf would be cool. There are no such (joinable) NPCs in the entire trilogy... I like the idea of a Bard, but I'd also dig a priestess with a specially designed Cleric kit or for a warrioress, a Dwarven Defender or a Breachgnome.
The Breachgnome sounds ... familiar. Something like a dwarven defender but not a dwarf... Oh, wait, he's edited his post... But @deltago saw it:) The edit has to mean something, doesn't it?
So, maybe the shorty Andrew Foley told about is actually a Breachgnome.
It appears in the Complete Book of Gnomes & Halflings (2e) by Wizards of the Coast. The chapter on gnomish subraces introduces the rock gnome and provides rules for playing them alongside svirfneblin (deep gnomes), tinker gnomes, and the traditional forest gnome. It's tricky treating the tinker gnome seriously, but Niles manages to do so in a way that makes them intriguing. I'm surprised to see how much flavor text and loving attention to detail each subrace receives. That's a sharp difference from more recent D&D editions, and it's welcome here. Character kits are broken down by class, and there's little of the power inflation seen in some other books in this series. There's the breachgnome and goblinsticker (fighter), the mouseburglar and tumbler (thief), the imagemaker and vanisher (illusionist), the buffoon and stalker (multiclass), and the rocktender and treetender (priest). Mechanical advantages are balanced by mechanical penalties, some of them brutally restrictive; the rocktender, for instance, can't cast spells unless in direct contact with unhewn rock.
So, a Breachgnome...
It's a fighter kit ("something like a dwarven defender", oh wait)
This burly gnome takes a "heads up and face front" view to battle. Armed to the teeth and armored to the eyeballs, he or she hoists weapon, fully prepared to stand toe-to-toe with any attacker menacing home or ally. In some senses, this is the gnomish equivalent of the knight, mixed with a stubbornness and tenacity suggestive of the most determined dwarven heroes.
A Breachgnome devotes all his or her life to the fighter's art, from wrestling as a child to mastering an assortment of weapons as the character grows to adulthood. Often he or she will be taught by fighters of other races (human and dwarf, in particular) as well as accepting the tutelage of a gnomish master.
The Breachgnome must have a Strength of at least 16.
Role: This character is the one who steps out of the crowd of gnomes to confront the bullying ogre. Breachgnomes excel in defensive fighting; if his or her warren is invaded by enemies, the Breachgnome will stand in a corridor and hold the creatures at bay until the rest of the villagers can escape. Only after all have fled will the valiant defender (possibly) begin to think about his or her own safety.
The classic Breachgnome is an epic figure in gnomish battle lore. The tale of Maddi Gaddlroot is typical: Maddi supposedly held off a whole army of ogres for an entire day, standing before a cave mouth between two trees, where only one of the enemy could get at her at a time. Behind her, her city of a thousand gnomes stood threatened, and during the course of that day the young and infirm (together with most of the treasure) were hustled through narrow tunnels into the depths of the earth.
Only after she had slain dozens of the brutes did Maddi fall before the superior might of her attackers. Then the ogres lunged into the lair, only to be met by a clever network of ambushes and illusionary traps--defenses which the Breachgnome's heroic sacrifice had given her fellow gnomes time to create. In the end, the attack was defeated, the city saved, and the hero elevated to legendary status among her people. Interestingly enough, virtually every gnome settlement considers itself to be the one Maddi Gaddlroot died defending and will often point out to visitors the site of her last stand!
Secondary Skills: The Armorer or Weaponsmith secondary skills are useful to the Breachgnome.
Weapon Proficiencies: The Breachgnome must have a proficiency in the use of the short sword and either the hammer or axe.
Bonus Nonweapon Proficiencies: None
Recommended Nonweapon Proficiencies: The Breachgnome should consider the Armorer, Weaponsmith, Endurance, and Blacksmithing proficiencies.
Equipment: The Breachgnome will typically carry at least two melee weapons, a shield, metal armor, and some type of missile weapon (crossbow and sling being preferred).
Special Benefits: Because of their short size and gusty determination, all Breachgnomes gain bonuses to their Armor Class when they can fight in a position with one or both flanks protected by solid objects such as trees, walls, or support beams. If the gnome has such an object within 3' of either side, he or she receives a -1 bonus to AC; if both sides are protected, the bonus is -2. Assume the gnome is 2' wide to determine if both sides are protected--i.e., the Breachgnome can gain the double bonus when standing between walls no more than 8' apart. This bonus is cumulative with any applicable size and Dexterity bonuses.
Because of their single-mindedness in weapon training, Breachgnomes gain weapon proficiency slots at the rate of one every two levels (with the first extra proficiency slot becoming available at third level).
Special Hindrances: When faced with a battle that he or she might be able to win--but companions or common sense that urge a withdrawal--the Breachgnome must make a Wisdom check. He or she can repeat the check every round, but the character cannot retreat until it succeeds.
The Darkest Day mod implemented a kit called the Breachgnome with other features but I doubt the official version will be the same.
"Breach Gnome (Fighter) Advantages: Can have 3 slots devoted to a 2 weapon style Have a permanent +2 THAC0 Can cast Breach and Pierce Magic at levels 1 and 14 Can cast Spellstrike at level 18 Disadvantages: Are only able to devote 3 slots to a weapon Do not use ranged weapons with any degree of skill Do not wield swords with any skill The breach gnome battles at the front line of any gnomish force. Renowned for their furious fighting style, these vicious gnomes are, without a doubt, the most feared of all gnomish ranks. Clad in extremely bulky armour to protect them from enemy onslaughts the breach gnome is able to stand extrordinary amounts of damage and punishment. Trained to fight with a sword and a shield, the breach gnome excel in this style of combat. Despite the heavy encumberence of their armor, they are never the superb at shattering all types of defenses, magical as well as physical. Their uncanny abilities are supplemented with a select array of spells which are tough to all breach gnomes by all the finest spell casters. Able to crush even the most resilient defenses, the power of the breach gnome is legendary amongst their own folk."
I'd still like another thief. True Neutral assassin (Flair the character with 'honoring a contract' or some buiz to account for the neutrality. Like Leon in the move...Leon. Hell just make it a guy and call him Leon.) or a Good Shadow Dance.
To be honest I would not mind any subset of thief. Multiclasses especially either a cleric or druid or even a three way multiclass as long as thief is in there.
I edited my post because I forgot I was blue, had put on my D&D knowledge cap at that moment, and then realized afterwords that it might lead to people getting their hopes up over what I had written.

And this is one of the few reasons I decided not to add that to the "facts" thread:)
Still, this remains a very much valid version of what would be actually in the Adventure Y. You've just given us an option:)
The Barbarian is The ONLY Class In The Original Baldur's Gate Saga That Had NO Non-Player Character!
A Female Barbarian for the Win! Now how Cool is this Portrait? No damsel in distress here; No Siree! Just a stare that cuts steel!
Thoughts: I want at least a Barbarian and not something new if it meant going without: The Barbarian! *Thumps Chest Rawr!!!*
Also I would favour to see another Half-Orc or some other under-used race option. I saw a Non-Player Character Mod that introduced a Barbarian named White and I think that it was Female Barbarian if I recall correctly. I like the Name and I like the Character Idea for the Mod. I feel that all of the other classes in the 'Current' Baldur's Gate Games have been made yet strangely enough no Barbarian has been made? HMMMN *Que Captain Obvious* 'I think that a New Non-Player Character will be a Barbarian since that we are going up North to friggin' Boareskyr Bridge AND Dragonspear Castle!'
Now if they don't add a Barbarian while we held north, that would be one HUGE missed opportunity on Beam Dog's Part. Hopefully it will be a female to dodge the 'Conan / Heman Trope' of Fantasy Bare-chested Fabio Barbarians.
P.S. Wouldn't it be funny if Beam Dog put a Barbarian into 'Adventure Y' with an anti-stereotypical ~18 Intellect and or ~18 Wisdom? (Since Nobody ever rolls a double 3 for their Barbarian's Intellect and Wisdom Scores am I right folks, or am I right? (" ͡° ' ͜ʖ ͡° ')
Expansion: I read @Blackraven 's post and I agree with the female dwarf. I would like to see a Female Dwarf Barbarian more so than another Human nor even the scant Half-Orc.. Or wait.. A Half-Orc Female Barbarian! I change my vote from a Female Dwarf Barbarian to Half-Orc Female Barbarian!
