OOC Oppenheimer? You mean Xzar didnt say it first?
sadly not, although it suited Xzar perfectly, makes me laugh every time. Oppenheimer quoted it in regards to seeing results form the atomic bomb dropped i believe, but i think originally it's a pretty cool line from the Bhagavad Gita....of course i could be wrong and making stuff up...correct me if i'm idiotically wrong...
Xan will cast Armour on himself and then try and free the rest of the party, Minsc first. He will also try to wake Minsc and pass him a healing potion. However if he is attacked he will stop and defend himself.
@rufus_hobart I think in the Gita, it is 'I am become death, shatterer of worlds."
“If the radiance of a thousand suns / were to burst into the sky / that would be like / the splendor of the Mighty One and I am become Death, the shatterer of worlds.”
Xan, you are very close to where the men are. They will probably block you as you try to free others. This round, you can cast Armor.
Okay, Xan casts armor on himself. All the pirates fail to hit. Next round, the pirates go first. The leader hits Mazzy with both sword and hook. Combined, she takes 9 points damage. One of the pirates stabs Xan, hitting him in the leg for 2. A second stabs Mazzy for 8, while the other stabs Imoen for 7.
Imoen misses with both shots. Alora misses with both shots. Mazzy stabs the leader in the gut, killing him, while Xan kills one of the pirates with his sword. The other two pirates, one injured, flee. Mazzy cuts the injured one down with her sword, Imoen and Alora miss yet again, and Branwen strikes the uninjured pirate a blow to the head with a sling stone that makes him stumble down the stairs. Xan frees Imoen, who is closest to him.
Imoen bounds to the stairs, where she hits and kills the last remaining pirate. Xan frees Alora, and then Branwen, before finally cutting the sleeping Minsc free. Minsc wakes to find himself hurting, and in a cocoon of white.
Smacking his lips, Minsc rolls and says, "I fed Boo, Mom. Boo... Sleepy." It felt like his bunk was rocking, back and forth, which was strange... because... "Evil?" Looking left to right, Minsc popped to his woozy feet and scrambled to lift the sword of Boo. "I grow tired of crossing swords with this evil. Boo will finish their eyeballs, once and for all, so that they don't rise again. Evil, meet my sword. Sword, meeeeet evil!!!!
Minsc gets another seven points back (with one of his own potions of healing) and is almost fully healed. Mazzy gets 4 points back. Imoen kills the pirate Mage and his two slept men. You are now alone on the Poop Deck.
Im going to look round the deck at the various entrances to the lower decks. I'll check for traps on them. I'll also listen to see if i can hear anyone moving about. Then I think we should try the door into the captain's cabin.
The Captain has chainmail and a long sword and dagger. He wears a gold ring set with small gems w/50 gp. His belt pouch has 5 gp, 3 sp, 2 cp and a very nice gem w/100 gp. It also holds 2 iron keys. The mage has a silver ring on one hand that is magical, four darts, and a wand. His belt pouch has 2 gp, 5 sp and two gems (w/200 gp and 75 gp respectively, plus some spell components. The two smugglers who were with the Captain and Mage have a gold ear ring w/5 gp, 11 sp, and the second man has a gold arm band w/20 gp and another 11 sp in his belt pouch. Each has a suit of leather armor, a longsword and dagger.
The man with a hook for a hand has a broadword and dagger, a gold earring in one lobe (w/10gp) and in his belt pouch has 3gp, 5 sp, 7 cp and a key. The other three men have a golden charm around their neck (w/10 gp, and a belt pouch with 1 gp and 7 sp, the second a gold finger-ring w/5 gp and a belt pouch with 9 sp. The third man has only a belt pouch with 4 gp and 8 sp.
I thought the captain's cabin was usually at the back (aft) under the poop deck? Anyway, thats where I'll look first. I'll also take the key off the chap with the hook.
No sounds from either. And sorry, my bad, there are four doors- two on the left, two on the right. None of them are locked. The two in the center lead to stairs going down. The one on the left is next to the stairs going up to the poop deck. The other one to the right is located by the taffrail closest to shore.
OOC I'm going to have to head to bed now so I will leave it to the others to decide which door to go through. But Alora is happy to go in first and check for traps etc.
Okay. Since no one has spoken up, we'll go with left first...
This appears to be one of the "master" Cabins. The furnishings and fittings are of good quality and the place is clean, if somewhat untidy. A single bunk, made up with bedlinen, has its head against the the bulkhead running down the center line of the ship next to what appears to be a wooden partition squaring off the corner near the main deck.
A writing desk is set against the hull below the stern porthole. It has a drawer on each side and three trays on the top. Also on the desk top, just in front of the trays, there is an inkpot, two quill pens, and a pewter, pepper-pot like container. Against the desk is set a wooden, upright chair, while beside the desk is set a brass-bound wooden chest.
Against the hull, on the starboard side, is a padded leather couch. In front of it a bearskin rug lies on the deck while beneath the couch can be seen a fairly large metal box. An unlit hooded lantern hangs from the center of the deck above, and the cabin appears to be unoccupied.
I'll let the sneaky, roguish ones go foreward into the room first, then I'll go in after them, looking around, for anything that could tell us more about those who we face.

Abruptly, the webs are gone.
