In a no-reload, I decided to recruit Viconia. I had no idea that Hold Person extends to neutral circles. Vicky cast hold person at the Flaming Fist officer. Officer saved, charname didn't.
They have been dead tired! Eight hours real time corresponds to something like 80 hours game time that the party has just been standing there doing nothing and getting no sleep.
After all these years I can't believe that I forgot about BG1's insane reputation hand-outs.
This morning I rolled a F/M and quickly ran around gaining loads of XP so that I could solo the Cloakwood mines before I put my party together. So, after exiting c/wood I went to recruit Kagain and Kevin, only to have them leave my party straight away. That was when I noticed that I'd got an heroic reputation of 20 - without even bloody trying!
Right, off to slaughter some innocent women and children then.........
@dunbar Ah ok, that makes much more sense. I award you a Facepalm moment.
I don't think Edwin would appreciate being compared to his lesser known twin brother Kevin Odesseiron who is in fact, not a Red Wizard but instead a baker who owns a chain of stores in Amn. If both of them had business in the same place (pff, what are the odds?) then it's entirely possible an adventuring party may recruit Kevin by mistake.
@ThacoBell Not much of an anagram when it's literally just the name backwards. Still a good false identity though, I don't think the characters would actually see through it.
Now that I think about it, Maraz would be quite the convincing name.
I made a solo character to master flails for the Flail of Ages +5. When I FINALLY got the last head and completed the weapon it became worse than its previous versions because Free Action came with it. This ruined my game since I saved after the realization that free action prevents all haste spells/effects. The next save was hours of playtime prior. Hugely disappointed in this nerf. I don't think I even want to complete the game now.

Yep... Hence the face palm, it was... should be... So glaringly obvious. What makes it worse is I knew Semaj was James . I guess, if im kind to myself, that's it's a case of too obvious to spot, hidden in plane sight

like your own name @fluke13, or should I say Elekulf!

When you get HLAs you can offset this by using GWW which let's you max out the attacks per round anyways. FoA is considered one of the best weapons in the game for a reason. Actually for a number of reasons. If you want to quit, then quit, by rest assured you have not gimped your char by mastering flails. Also, any SC fighter who GMs in flails have enough points to GM another weapon over time as well. Playing solo that wouldn't take that long either (unless you already dualed into something else though of course).

Making plans to do a solo run of Baldur's Gate, and then realizing that doing so would involve saying no to Imoen when she tries to join your party, which is against my moral code.
I'm trying a limited reload run for the first time. I've been pretty strict, only reloading if I break the game or on occasion if I get frustrated by a spell scroll (I know, I'm weak. )
Anyway, I went to rescue Ender Sai in the Bandit Camp, but decided I'd clean out the tent of loot first. He stood there waiting patiently for me to talk to him, no doubt relieved that he was being rescued.
Of course, I was in a hurry to open everything, and forgot there was a lightning bolt trap on the chest behind him. Ender Sai escaped execution only to be indirectly killed by the paladin that came to rescue him...
Thinking my game got corrupted somehow and I was going to have to start over.. Safana started one shotting EVERYTHING before any other character could get a single hit in (the Bandit Camp was over so fast hehe..) I made a post about it here, asking if it was a bug or if my game got ruined. Someone mentioned it sounded like the Godbow cheat, and then it hit me.. Oh yeah, I hit that button once just to see what it did, and I didn't know where this bow I just noticed in inventory earlier came from, so I equipped it and saw the bonuses and went 'oooooooh'. Didn't realize that was the Godbow cheat in action.. I thought the button did nothing and I was screwed.
I knew it had something to do with undead but I didn't know what. I never used it as a result. When I finally figured out what it did, I still never used it because it requires the Cleric to remain standing still.
Indeed, It's a function that I thought was useless for so long that I effectively blanked it out of my memory. The problem was that when I "tested" it to find out what it did (somewhere safe obviously, not like in the middle of a battle or anything stupid like that) nothing happened.
This is not my greatest facepalm moment (and it's not from Baldur's Gate), but it's a facepalm moment:
In Icewind Dale 2, the description of the Flask of Braehg says "Slow poison when imbibed." So naturally I had my character drink it when they were poisoned. But I misunderstood the description: the Flask of Braehg doesn't slow poison - it poisons you slowly!
At the time it wasn't that facepalmy, but in hindsight, the first time or two i tried playing BG2, and was completely overwhelmed by just how big it was, not realizing i could revive characters, and when I lost minsc to a disingigrate trap i already knew to search for.
Possibly, just possibly, this is an homage to Jim Ward, an influential long-time game developer at TSR and a member of Gary Gygax's original gaming group; his Greyhawk setting AD&D character, who became a major character in that setting's background, was a wizard called Drawmij ...
(and, youknow, "Jim" is the diminutive form of "James", so there's that AND the name spelled backwards ...)

Kevin?
Do you mean Kivan? Because he's CG he wouldn't leave the party unless you're rep was 2 or lower.

Semaj is James!!!!!!!!
(who is James?)
Seriously, who is James?
