The civil cervants in amn are all about the money.
In the government district I stumbled upon the good gnome Jan J. We where “caught” discussing turnips, and I had to tell a small white lie.. but take a look at what the civil servants doesnt think is interesting and worthy of action:
Gorion's level must be considerably higher inside Candlekeep than outside. If his ward misbehaves in Candlekeep, Gorion uses a high-level insta-kill spell.
When ambushed outside Candlekeep, he defends himself with magic missiles and Melf's Acid Arrow before getting chunked by Sarevok.

Cows are also domesticated in bg so I do not expect them to live in the wild.
Completely outside the point I was making.
Insta-kill spells are the cheese of the IE games (and in NWN1, those damn slaads and bodaks and water elementals). For cheese you need milk. Thus you need cows.

Die-hard vegans do without cheese. And no-reload if you're straight edge hardcore!
They also shrink to fit any size finger, just like the weapons.and armour! It always amazes me that the same platemail can fit a male half-orc barbarian with 19 strength as well as a female gnome cleric with strength of 12. I'd say even the non-magical armour and weapons are pretty magical in Faerun!

Yes - turnips is the major problem here...
When ambushed outside Candlekeep, he defends himself with magic missiles and Melf's Acid Arrow before getting chunked by Sarevok.
He has the high ground, so.
Candlekeep has cows.
Wilderness has none.
It's very clear that Gorion simply ran out of spells and wasn't able to recharge.
