Human consciousness arose but a minute before midnight on the geological clock. Yet we mayflies try to bend an ancient world to our purposes, ignorant perhaps of the messages buried in its long history. Let us hope that we are still in the early morning of our April day.
-- Stephen Jay Gould
People are going to to tell you that you'll never make it and then when you do, they'll say that they knew you were going places. Next thing you know you'll be overrated, and hearing people say that they miss the old you.
Television is a gift of God, and God will hold those who utilize his divine instrument accountable to Him.
-- Philo T. Farnsworth (one of television's inventors)
"There is a saying that neurotics, being in touch with realities, build castles in the air but do not live in them. Psychotics, because of the loss of contact with realities, not only build castles in the air but start living in them. Psychiatrists are smart owners of these castles as they charge rent from both of them."
"I'm not even an atheist so much as I am an antitheist; I not only maintain that all religions are versions of the same untruth, but I hold that the influence of churches, and the effect of religious belief, is positively harmful."
— Christopher Hitchens, in Letters to a Young Contrarian (2001)
Yeah, never mind that most charities are church run. Nothing but harmful...
But they are also exempt from taxation...
I mean, I don't pay taxes. Am I harmful?
Certainly not, but when institutions that hold power and wealth don't, then they sure are. But then again, that's not the only thing harmful about them (and it's certainly not one of the worst ones). I guess that's a discussion for another thread though, probably one that not many would enjoy.

They also have no power over the state and fed, which is why ALL religions, not just churches but mosques as well (forgot what Jewish place of worship is called) are all exempt from paying taxes. They weren't just magically given tax exemption, it came with some limitations of things they cannot do.
"Its an urge truth be told, every champion has felt it, every president has felt it, every king has felt it, every lion has felt it, every winner has felt it, every soldier has felt it, every victorious person has felt it; the urge to quit!
Don't you give up on you're dream! I don't care if you don't have the money, and you don't have the help, and you don't have the family fo rit, and you don't have the background for it, and don't have the friends for it, don't you give up on your dream! Don't you do it, don't you do it, don't you do it! It may take you twice as long! You may have to take courses and classes, you might read as fast, you might not move as quick, you might not have as much but don't you quit!
You do make a difference as weak as you are, as tired as you are, as many mistakes you make. You do make a difference!"

I think I remember this one... isn't it from the girl that ignores all weapons and escape routes available?
