It's really disheartening to see such dismissive and judgmental comments about NWN, Beaamdog, and this entire community from someone who has otherwise had a pretty good reputation around here. Is there really anything constructive about this thread at all?
How cute: the rabble of Beamdog butterflies is against me for pointing out a few positives about Electron. This is unsurprising in an echo chamber such as the Beamdog forums.
It is also unsurpising that a few custom content creators would jump on the bandwagon to erect strawmen, mispresent my viewpoint, suggest that I am anti-Aurora/-EE, and pretend to speak for the community with the weaselly "we" and "us": you really are a petty and predictable lot when you gather together in a crowd.
Thus, there is no point micro-quoting and responding to each and every falsity, some of which stem from personal grievances of the past.
I find it amusing that one guy puffed himself up by listing some of his "achievements" which neither concern Aurora or Electron, though.
@voidofopinion You don't know what my "top 5 videogames" are because I have never listed them. Again, reading comprehension.
Also, the lowly position of "community representative" held by you hardly qualifies you as an authority. See, the thing is: I have articles that prove my knowledge whereas you have a single rant about what pissed you off about Electron, posted a decade ago.
Again, you really are a petty lot. But keep parroting the same opinion as one another; it's in your nature to dwell in an echo chamber.
So I'm going to try some modules, specifically swordflight and maybe try a PW or two. I'm going to see if they can persuade my opinion of NWN1. I will say though the game would be just better outright (for me) with full party control, but I see that, among other things, has been debated quite fiercely.
It is perfectly possible to discuss NWN 2 advantages over NWN without being offensive to other forum users. This thread so far has broken rules 6 and 9. Thread closed. Feel free to open a new thread to discuss the theme if there is any interest to do so.
This is just a friendly reminder for everyone to read the site rules.
By the way, I didn't catch the moderator warning on the previous page. Ban me if you want, I don't care.
Speaking on behalf of the other moderators, we don't really like to ban people. That's not how we prefer to enforce the Site Rules. From our point of view, the goal of moderation is not to get rid of the "bad guys," but to encourage everyone to be better citizens.
This forum isn't like most other forums, gaming or otherwise. This is a forum where people open up about their personal problems specifically because they know they'll receive emotional support, where people worry about their fellow forumites's health even when it's not necessary, where people talk about parenting and poke gentle fun at their friends. We have people here who genuinely care about each other.
@Lilura, I don't know much about NWN, NWN2, Aurora, Electron, or any of that stuff, and all I know about you is that you wrote the brilliant walkthrough of SoD that I have frequently referenced to support my no-reload runs in the "Maybe this time" thread. I was delighted to see you here on the forum--we have a new celebrity here!
But I'm getting the feeling that you were "raised" on a very different forum from this one, a place where people fought things out and people built their reputations on winning arguments and showing their strength and knowledge. A place where nobody ever apologizes or shows any weakness or vulnerability, and there is no expectation that people will be friendly or even respectful to each other.
This forum is a very,
VERY
different place from the one you're used to.
And I'm not just speaking to one person here; I think a lot of people need to hear this.
I don't mean to scold or threaten; I mean to inform. A lot of people come to this forum thinking this place is just like all the others, but the community here is very different. There's a reason why people here tend to knit together: because people here, unlike on other places on the Internet, actually like each other and care about their community.
You don't have to share everyone's opinions or anything like that; groupthink is not what I'm talking about here (I don't even have an opinion on NWN:EE and NWN2; I don't know what you guys are even talking about). But if you poke around the Off-topic section or the other topics you don't often visit, or get to know individual forumites as people, or read the Site Rules, or just spend more time around here and watch what folks here do, you'll find that this place is better off being different from the Codex.
I'm not saying that you need to be nice or get banned (though there's definitely some truth to that). I'm saying that it feels good to be kind.
It's more fun to cuddle friends than wrestle enemies.
